It wasn't until I recently got my son and then later wife the iPhone 4S on Virgin that I realized how slow my data was. I had my son run speedtest on his iPhone sitting right next to my phone and he is getting 1.5Mbps while I get .125Mbps.
Put that 2G/3G status thing on my phone and it is showing 2g all the time. Argh... no wonder the thing is so slow.

The nexus 4 is a gsm device. I am typing this on my nexus 4 on T-Mobile.Thanks for clarifying. I thought the Nexus 4 was a GSM phone.
I've considered the Nexus and T-Mobile also.
I thought that and still think it is a GSM device.
Well, I'm happy to have found this thread. Today I kind of followed the re-program instruction that someone posted above from Virgin. But, since I didn't know my MSID once I set them both to ten 1's I just clicked on the Activate phone. Shockingly when it restarted Status 3G/2G was reporting 3G... WOW! Up until then it always reported 2G.
I did a speed test and now get @ 1Mbps down and @ .8Mbps up!
All this time I wondered why the phone's data seemed so much slower than my Optimus V. Now I know.

Well.. three days now and it always stays in 3G mode. Battery life seems the same as before as well.
I'll have to flash back to stock so I can try this. Unfortunately Sleipnier doesn't have activation working.
Will report back with results.
Keep in mind my phone was NEVER going into 3G before I did this. Not sure if that is your situation.

jamoosh... can hurt to try. However, the other thread seems to show that the issue may be location specific. I'm in Tampa area and others have reported not seeing the switching.
Let us know how you make out.
Hate to be contrary. But vm uses sprint towers right? If so that itself could explain everybodies slow data.
Before I got my elite I was on sprint with the og evo, and had the same lousy service at my house. It's a network issue imo. I have 3 towers within a half mile of my house. Using "open signal map" app I was able to watch the phone jump from one tower to another. Called sprint who told me I should be fine. Told them they were full of it. When I would manually change the prl to Verizon my dbm numbers would jump from -100+dbm to -65dbm. If you look in "about phone" you'll see the prl for this phone (elite), mine says 61007 which is an old ass list.
So now we have sprint with crap signal. And the rumor mill has it that sprint is upgrading they're network from Wimax to lte. That could theoretically cause outage issues.
add to this that some guy in Japan bought a controlling share in sprint and is supposedly financing an accelerated update program. I believe what it all comes down to, is that supposedly by 2015 sprints lte should be on par with Verizon and AT&T. (which I believe as much as the rest of ya)
If you think about it sprint has itself, boost, cricket, and virgin, (and good knows who else) all pulling from their towers. They just don't have the network to cover all those devices.
Oh, also just to put it out there these phones don't use the data to send texts. When you do send a text you'll notice you lose 3g. Don't know why they have it that way, but they do. Text and voice go through cellular everything else goes over 3g. Personally I'm hoping we're not being fed a load, and that when sprint is all lte'ed up that it should free up the network for those of us using 3g. Sprint did state that they'd honor the contracts of all the folks with 4g devices and not pull that signal until they're able to push us all over to lte.
sorry for the long post, but i hope this helps somebody out there
P.s. To clarify, it's the native messaging app that runs over the cell signal. Apps like handcent, google voice, etc, use data. (found this out while trying to lower my mothers AT&T bill. Just getting rid of unlimited texting and using a data texting app dropped her bill by more than $80
Go SMS, pinger, text plus, do use the data connection to communicate. I went through a bunch of those type of apps looking to see just that.
Also if you go into the, testing menu through the dailer where you can change the network from gsm, cdma, etc when you switch between them it can delay the texts. Couldn't tell you specifically what happens. But I've noticed it happen. Granted maybe it's during the switch that the text gets lost or whatever you want to call it. But I was fooling with it last night then again this morning and had a text I missed from the night before come through.
I've also shut of the data radio to the phone and still have texts t through the native app come through.
Maybe somebody more knowledgeable can explain exactly what happens, but it does. That's how the post paid carriers can give away free text and voice but nickle and dime ya on the data.

So.... does anyone have the new list so we can flash it?
Seriously, though. Anyone?
Mine is 61009 I've only had my phone a couple months though.
