Foxfi not working with lg motion 4g

Vin Cecil

Newbie
I am trying to get wifi hotspot on my lg motion 4g. When I try to start the wifi connection, it says wifi mode has failed try bluetooth dun instead. Bluetooth dun dosent work either. Im am using foxfi through pdanet. I can use pdanet usb tether just fine with user agent switch on google chrome.

I am not rooted. I have tried reinstalling, rebooting, changing ssid, but none worked.

Could it be possible to try the build prop method? Without rooting?
I have foxfi wifi hotspot working perfectly fine on my lg optimus m rooted and custom rom, so i know it works good with metro pcs.

Ok i figured it out after messing with it for a few hours, trying every thing i could. My guess is that maybe my antivirus or the way the phone itself was made, but all I had to do to get it to work is... put a password on the connection.

I never had to do this before with any phone that I have set up for people. But yes that is a fix if you keep getting the error "wifi mode fdailed to start on your phone, use bluetooth mode instead"

I put 8 k's for my password because it was the only thing that I havnt tried so i tried it just for laughs and it started right up

I was having the same problem . . . in part . . . thanx for this piece of info! Now . . . if only I could get my laptop or Wii to actually connect! They "see" my network, but they can't actually connect to it. I keep getting a "limited connection". Any ideas???

Thanx Mucho!

I believe this is a metro-pcs carrier phone only at the moment. If so, MetroPCS does not allow tethering through the device as per the 'Network Disclosure' documentation on their website... "Due to our limited spectrum resources and network capacity, our terms and conditions prohibit tethering and P2P file sharing. Such uses place an unreasonable burden on MetroPCS’ limited spectrum capacity. In order to enforce MetroPCS’ prohibition against tethering, MetroPCS’ CDMA and EVDO networks will deny traffic to destination ports that are typically identified used by as tethered devices, such as equipment running Windows operating systems on personal computers. Furthermore, P2P file sharing in many instances is used to distribute material that content owners have indicated to us is copyrighted material. Such P2P file sharing also presents special congestion issues for MetroPCS’ mobile broadband Internet access networks and services since the MetroPCS service is not designed for extended uplinking of data as is generally part of P2P file sharing services. Such P2P protocols and protocol combinations that are prohibited include Gnutella, eDonkey and Bit Torrent. "

However, I just read someplace that there is a way to change Firefox browser settings on your pc to fool the networks into thinking the data is just going to your phone and still allows the tethering to function at full speed. Links here for multiple (possible fixes): http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/497936-metropcs-blocked-tethering.html

Or, you could try this advice: "EASY FIX!

If your phone is rooted you can edit the build.prop file found in /system/build.prop and your phone will tether with noproblem bypassing metroPCS block Wireless or USB!

Open build.prop with in a text editor by long pressing the file until a menu comes up.
Scroll to the bottom of the file and look for ....

metropcs-us
ro.tether.denied=true <-- Change to false save and exit.

*Your Phone will have to be rooted to edit this file.
This is only one way of many to manipulate your phone to work the way you want it to.
Tether On!"

WOWW, lmao. Ive been without foxfi for a year now LOL. Im using Metro Pcs & have the 50 plan LTE 4G Until i reach 2.5GB data and then my speeds drop to 3G (same as straight talk speeds) Once ilim throttled to 4G speeds every month of course i cant use the 4G mobile hotspot because im not on 4G until i renew plan but now that i just got foxfi to work again i can tether in my 3g speeds. Good enough to have 3/5 connection bars on ps3. Ive called metro and explained to them.that after i.exceeded my 2.5GB i continue to tether from an application on the Play Store (called and told them.because was scared i might get service suspended) and they said after ive been throttled to 3G speeds my connection wont be throttled any further no matter how much data i used on 3G. Just thought i'd share (;

Unlimited.Tethering.

Download the add on for foxfi and then add a password and your be all set i have a motion now and am using the wifi now
