Root [Verizon] Rooting Procedure...Verizon S3

My apologies for the delay to get back to you.

It worked, and thank you!

Now, here are my rooting questions. If you have too then will you create a new thread for my questions by moving my questions out of this thread?

I would like to use TWRP recovery, so here are the steps I would take, so please correct me.

1.) Follow the rooting YouTube video I used to root my S3 the first time, and install the CWM recovery just for now using CWM?

2.) Once rooted, make a backup in the CWM recovery, and how would I do that? BTW, my SD card is still not recognized.

3.) Once the backup and rooting is done, then go into the Play Store, and download GooManager which that will flash TWRP and it will get rid of CWM?

4.) Make a backup using TWRP and use backup compression?

5.) In this order wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, and then factory reset?

6.) Flash CM?

7.) Flash gapps?

8.) Would there be anything else?

Take a look at this link:

In step 1 (preparation) sub point 5---you can install TWRP during the rooting process and you need not even bother with CWM recovery.

When you say your sd card is still not recognized, do you mean when you plug your device into your computer, you cannot see your sd card? And do you mean your external sd card? (card). Or the internal sd card (phone)

Let's take this step by step by first trying to get your computer to see either your internal or external sd card. :)

I moved your post to its own thread here also :D

My SD card on the back of the phone behind the battery, and its not showing up on my computer. I am not really sure if its recognized on my phone itself or not, I don't have that answer, and I don't know how to check on my phone.

Thank you for that link, and I'll check it out.

o.k...so your computer can see your internal card but not the external yes?
Do you have a card reader that you can use to put your external sd card into and put it in the computer to see if the computer will recognize it?

No, I don't have a card reader. The reader I have doesn't work for the Verizon SD, remember? That is the only card reader I have, and for the reader I use an adapter, and I don't have any adapter will fit my Verizon SD card either.

I snapped pictures of both my reader itself and the adapter, and I have it saved on my phone, but I don't know how to upload them on this forum to show you.

Ah, yes I seem to recall that now.....no problem.
Technically you do not need the external sd card to root as you can put the files on the internal memory.
Does your phone recognize the external sd card?

No, becsuse under Storage in Settings, the Mount SD card is greyed out, it would be nice to see my SD csrd working, but it never worked. I refuse to give up.

Ah, your computer does not have a port like this to put that black micro sd adapter in?:

Like I said, technically we don't need the external sd card to root....just put the needed files on the internal sd card.
We can deal with that later if you like:)

No, it doesn't have a port like that. If you want you could look up my PC to confirm? I have the eMachines EL1200-07w PC.

Hey, I really apologize for the long wait, but I didn't root yet, and the reason is because my charger cord that came with my S3 showed signs of the cord giving up on me, so I am using a cord that I paid separately for my MP3 player, and so far its charging my phone in the wall, but I have not tested the cable with my phone to my PC.

No problem :)

I kept my word I will reply, and I am rooted now. However, one thing, I didn't check to see if SU was in my apps before I got the SU update, but I don't know if the SU update was the problem, but I don't see SU in my apps, so I downloaded the Chain fire SU app from the Play Store.

Hey. After the rooting I noticed my phone is unabled to be programmed, so I tried *228, but it doesn't show a keypad, and then I just tried *22891, and the recording says its unabled to be programmed. So, now what do I do?

programmed? Sorry, I don't follow ya.

Oh, yes. Programmed as in my phone won't activate as in activation? Please read above and substitute programmed for activate.
