Help HTC One Volume Control and Speaker Loudness

I've recently upgraded from a HTC One X to a HTC One. I've noticed the volume control isn't as good with the new handset, as the lowest volume setting is still quite loud. With my HTC One X I could put the volume of games down so that it was loud enough for me to hear, but not loud enough to annoy anyone in the vicinity ie my wife lying next to me. I've searched to see if there is a way to make the volume control more sensitive with smaller increments, but I've been unable to find anything. Has anyone else noticed this issue or have any solutions (apart from earphones!)
 
It is loud, and to be honest i think it's good that people are complaining that they can't turn it down enough.:D

I tried an app from the store but it didn't help.

I would say the only option for now would be rooting and installing a custom rom, they usually have more volume increments included.

Crafty, are you saying it is loud, even on the lowest setting? I agree we have needed more volume capability on phones. Especially the way I use the speakerphone a lot at work. However, there are times when I need to turn the volume way down. Are you not able to do this on the One?

I would say it depends on which tones you choose, i use the old monophonic Nokia beep message tone and old Nokia monophonic ringtone, they are pretty loud even on the lowest setting, if you pick a "softer" tone then it may well be quiet enough, other than that, the vibration options is the one for you.

Thanks Crafty. Actually, I am not that concerned about tones. It is volume when you are on a phone call (both types: phone-on-ear and speakerphone) that I am concerned about.
 
Sorry, mis read your post, speaker phone sound is loud enough, and still audible on the lowest setting, as for on ear, i have no problems hearing callers, whether people around me can hear the conversation i don't know.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think the volume on the phone is great, it's just not being able to control it at the lowest level that's slightly annoying, as this wasn't a problem on the One X. I'll just have to live with the phone on mute or put earphones in if I'm wanting to have the sound turned down low. I'd recommend putting the alarm volume down low as well if you are using the phone as an alarm clock. I made the mistake of not checking the volume and woke up with a hell off a fright the first time I used it. :D
 
Thanks Monkeyboy. I would like to be clear on what you are saying. When you speak of not being able to control the volume at the lowest levels, are you talking about ringing volume, tones, etc. OR are you talking about the volume in your ear while on a call with the phone to your ear? It is the volume in the ear that I am most concerned about. I have sensitive ear drums and I need to be able to turn down volume in the earpiece to nearly a whisper while on calls.

It's the volume on the speakers, there's a big jump from 0 to 1 but when you're in a call it's normal.. same when you have headphones in.

Upload all of the sounds to the computer, use MP3Gain to 'turn them down', put 'em back on the phone and viola.
I use it for all of my music before sending it to the phone to quiet it down a bit.
 
I had the same problem with the volume being too high, so I downloaded an app called Music Volume EQ - I turned the volume on the app down to 1 and changed all the settings to -15 in the Equalizer, and now the speakers are very quiet (especially without Beats Audio enabled). It also gives you an icon in the notification bar so its pretty easy to turn it on or off, if you need the speakers to be at their normal volume.

Reviving an old thread here, but does this work for media volume like YouTube or Games, or is it just for music?
I think it was pretty clear from reading monkeyboy's original post what problem he was having. I have trawled through many similar threads but they all get derailed by people talking about the in-call volume or ringtones etcetera. I have exactly the same problem as monkeyboy though, because I don't go to sleep earlier than my girlfriend. I like to lie in bed and quietly watch videos or play games, which was fine on my Galaxy S3, but if I try it on my HTC One it usually results in a sharp elbow jab in my spine.

The jump in volume from 0 to 1 is unacceptable and HTC or somebody needs to fix this problem! I can't even muffle the speakers with my hand on this phone because of the otherwise fantastic dual front facing speakers!
 
Did anyone notice the irony when they first powered their phones on out of the box? The screen flashed up "HTC One", "Quietly Brilliant", then a loud intro noise is played over both speaker. And I mean loud! :)
 
I'm just wondering has anyone experience a sudden low volume from their phone. When I first received my phone the speakers was noticeably loud now they are very low.

T-Mobile issued an update to lower the output of the speakers because people were blowing their speakers out. I don't think Sprint has messed with my device.
 
Anyone else blow the speakers in their One? I'm pretty sure it happened from the old school ringing alarm sound being at max volume, so there's a warning for folks.

No, I assume your case is why T-Mobile issued an update to lower the sound output of the phone. There were cases of people blowing their speakers. I can understand why this happens but I think a vast majority of individuals who purchased the One lowered the volume from day one because the sound quality was unbelievable.

The HTC EVO 4G had a great speaker and the speaker on the EVO 3D was a cruel joke. Those of us who have had these phones knew we got the loudness of the EVO 4G back with the HTC One. But it was too loud for a lot of us.

If Sprint lowered the sound output I would be pissed. Everyone in the office took notice of the speaker quality on my phone when it chimed at me because a text did not go out on the network. Everyone started starring at each other and my phone was in my pocket. I just smiled and said it was my phone.
 
I've noticed sub par volume levels on my phone. My brother's Note 2 blows it out of the water, even though clarity is much better in mine.

We were at a noisy restaurant and mine just couldn't hang with his in terms of loudness. I was quite disappointed to say the least...this was one of the main reasons I bought the phone.

This is odd, My girlfriend has the Note 2 and my HTC One is about twice as loud as her Note 2 on any volume playing music, games, videos etc. My HTC One is the Sprint version.
