Root [Sprint/Cricket] Auto profile update

Hey guys

I didn't notice this pre root, but it seems that every 15 minutes there's that little notification in status bar "preparing network" as if my profile is getting updated automatically.

It's really starting to irk me since it kicks off my data 15-20 seconds each time it does this.

Is this normal?
 
Funny. This is happening to me on my device, the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE.. I'm not noticing it knocking data off. I'm usually on wifi. In fact I'm always on wifi so I'm not sure if its knocking my mobile data off.

The notification shows up periodically with a green check mark. Is this what you too are seeing on your device?

I realize I am posting in a thread belonging to a device that is not my own but it may possibly be a Samsung issue in general.
 
Yeah same thing, I don't recall it doing it before I rooted though :/

It never did it on my e4gt though.

Tw and aosp roms
 
My data is kicking off every once in a while as well. I'm running an AOSP ROM, but have noticed it on tw

It shouldnt have ANYTHING to do with root, so I'm going network at this point in time (sprint)
 
I didn't think it had anything to do with root since it happened between 2 different roms (moar & aospa+)

Just discovered how to turn lte off :rolleyes:

Hasn't happened yet since, we'll see
 
I'm not as far as I know.

Called up sprint about a week ago about my random roaming where I shouldn't be. Claim its from where the tower in my tiny town is getting upgraded to lte.

^^^load of crap Imo seeing as how the larger city an hour or so away doesn't even have lte yet.

Upgrading a tower maybe, but i dont see it being an lte upgrade.

No carrier has an lte tower in my town :rofl:
 
Probably a network vision upgrade. I agree its probably not an LTE upgrade yet though.


If I walk outside my apartment building I get full bars of LTE, but inside I only pick it up sometimes. They're still rolling it out in my area. We're not even officially announced yet
 
Prinny, says they are currently upgrading towers near him to lte (1 hour away from me) but I still highly doubt that has anything to do with mine.

I sure wouldn't complain if the upgrade (if they are actually upgrading the tower) for them faster 3g data speeds.

Since I turned off lte, no random profile updates so far.

Maybe I've caught onto something :)
 
Good to know! So is it wishful thinking to believe it's due to LTE in the works? LOL ;)

Honestly, I think it's just the phone "searching" for an LTE signal.
 
As I said earlier, lte upgrade? In my wildest dreams lol

Did a search for lte in my area, via sprint news room, 3 cities are getting lte, all within 30 minutes to an hour from me

Ughh I'm just put out by that lol
 
I've turned off LTE on my Victory and I haven't seen any Preparing Network notification messages. I'll wait a few days and see. But yeah I think it's just "refreshing it's view of the network" to see if there is LTE available. Just a guess.
 
Just spoke to a sprint rep, 3 towers in my area is getting upgraded to lte due to my on and off roaming the last couple weeks :eek:

Could this actually be so? :eek::eek::eek:

I'll know on the 15th :D

You never know. I live walking distance from the largest military base in the United states, in a major city, no LTE. 30 miles down the road a city 1/4 the size has LTE.

Idk what sprint is doing with all these "upgrades" but I know in the last two months the service I've gotten has been horrible. And that's when I get service at all.

*Edit* sprint actually sent me a mobile tower system for my home (airave)for free because I was roaming at home, in the middle of the city, for two weeks straight. I think they just got tired of me complaining.

well if you're still getting the message and are rooted long press and find the name of the item in my case it was called samsung dm service i used an app to freeze it and it is gone but remember to turn it on to update profile.
 
No I'm not getting the message anymore. I stopped getting it after I turned LTE off.

Following up with Britton as I was suppose to have LTE in my town ages ago :p
