Root Bootloader myth

DirtyDee

Android Expert
For some reason it feels like the majority of the LG motion community (devs excluded) seems to think that unlocked bootloader will cause syrupy cocaine to pour out of the phone and cm10 and all roms will just work. Followed soon by the root goddess to make our phones beam purity to our eyes, but I digress. In short if the the bootloader is unlocked what will we do next?

An unlocked boot loader will NOT get you past the CM10 RIL issues, the issue would be the same.

What should happen if we get an unlocked boot loader.

1. Someone, possibly me would make a real recovery, CWM/TWRP etc.etc. Our 2nd init recovery is good, but it is not a true recovery.

2. Test the kernel source code that LG released, and see if it actually works, I am willing to bet that it does not, and someone would have to fix it. I had to do this on the Samsung Prevail, and the ZTE Warp

2a. If kernel source code works, start cooking some kernels
2b. If kernel source code is broken, fix it.

3. Created de-secured stock based kernel ram disk

4. Create some de-secured Stock based ROMs

5. Create a good CM10 compatible kernel ram disk

6. Update CM10 device tree and remove the second init stuff.

7. Fix RIL issues with CM10 for 4G and MMS etc. etc.

So we will still be stuck on the CM10 RIL issue regardless of the boot loader

I did make a thread about trying to figure the RIL issue out, not too many people are interested in it.

id love to see cadoopa do some majik and add unicorns with boobs. 1.9ghz kernal

Me I would wait for the magic as well but learning this stuff I think admire 4g needs lots of love and help

lg is actually decent about source, all teh kernels from them ive compiled have worked without issue :)

+1 I've had to fix a bad path on a few but nothing major like the pita samsung src I've heard about.

And I agree, the locked but doesnt mean no dev love, just less of it

this is a **** thread....sorry if that term offends anyone...but seriously...this did not need to take up space in the Root section...or even in this particular phones section...it's stupid and pointless...

Well it was never meant to be serious, simply to get a quick laugh maybe gripe a bit and since it's did it job of informing me of what is next after bootloader unlocking.

I somewhat disagree. Lots of people are clueless what the bootloader even is let alone what a unlocked one could do for us. Even if a few more people bug LG and metro about it BC they got a slightly better understanding from this thread then its a plus in my book :-)

everyone with a with a motion or spirit could go bang on LG's front door and it wouldnt do any good. They would just have you all arrested. ;)

Not to mention, this device is not LG's money maker, so they just flat out dont give a *&^*&^(* what you/we want. ;)

IMO no bootloader should be locked... ESPECIALLY on device bought outright, which makes it mine and I can do WTFE I want with it. Now that doesnt mean Metro or any other carrier has to allow you on their network. ;)

Just another reason I love t-mobile. Have a GSM device.. bring it. ;)

That's something to look forward too

you can easily find that information out by a quick google search rather than posting a new thread about it...

but whatever...i'm the * here i guess
