Root [ROM][ICS] Paranoid Android Ver1.6 Beta from source (31JUL2013)

That's to say that Titanium tells me that my ID has changed, it could be bad, and if I want them to fix it, it'll only cost me six bucks. Because of their altruistic nature.

So I've discovered that rebooting a few times usually gets me to a point where the com.android.phone problem does not repeat. It also seems to be happening less often in general. It warrants mentioning that this was an issue for me from the February build on. Personally, I love the tiny fonts/huge screen; it's a great deal of the appeal to this hybrid thing. Gotta go- so many games that were unplayable are now calling...

I love this ROM, but my experience was that reboots caused com.android.phone to close, causing my account to be cut off. I saw a few other mentions of this and I hope there may be a little fix swimming around. Thanks for your incredible amount of work, BSydz. I'm excited to begin the test, even though I just flashed the alpha of the JB build of PA. What's a few app restores, when it comes to my favorite dev, he said, effusively, with upturned palms...
Thanks for the feedback, if you are getting an fc with phone then it is either the dpi setting for the phone app, which I have set by default to phone dpi, or you restored the phone app or data with an app. If it is the first which I doubt, then just go to paranoid settings, choose list of apps, then find the phone app and set the dpi to phone. I have never had an fc on the phone app that wasn't dpi related, so I'm guessing that if it works sometimes but not others it is not the dpi setting, cause you can't even make a call when the dpi is wrong. Hope this helps.
I've gotten a couple reboots and a phone froze up a few times, but haven't noticed them affecting anything. Was this on the latest tester, or on the JB PA alpha?

I haven't gotten a freeze or reboot after changing some of the settings to help give the RAM a break, though I don't think that shouldn't affect com.android.phone FC'ing...

BSydz - You probably already know this, but just confirming that when setting the "Wifi While Sleeping" to "Never", it doesn't connect again after coming out of sleep. Switching profiles or toggling the wifi on/off reconnects easily.

As expected, CPU Spy is reporting my phone can deep sleep, but only if I turn wifi off or "Wifi While Sleeping" is set to "Never". Personally, this works fine for me as I manually toggle radios and switch profiles fairly often.

And still no dropped cell signal, which is great!

EDIT: MMS isn't working... crashes when sending
Thanks for the feedback, I haven't had any issues sending MMS, did you restore data with an app like Titanium Backup? The wifi issue is something that has been around long before I got my hands dirty, I have tried a few things but still have some ideas.
This has happened on the February build and the last test build. I can confirm the excellence of video game play; I ran several games that caused instant reboots in previous roms. They ran nice(ly) and smooth(ly). I am impressed with the kernel. My issue is that a notification saying com.android.phone. has closed pops about 50% of the time, after the phone reboots. Often, it is the phone rebooting itself. when it boots, the phone reception indicator drops to nothing and the notification pops up. I attempt to dial voicemail, but another pop-up tells me I need to set up VM in settings. Incidentally, when I open titanium, it tells me that my ID number has changed, but nothing is effected by that. If there is any kind of fix, I would stick with this rom; it's pretty dang good... dang it. Gaming is stellar.

The ID thing is not a big deal, it says it every time you install a new ROM or even just reinstall a ROM. Like I said above, I think your issue with the phone app, has to do with restoring data with TB.
This might be a great ROM, but I will never know because the fonts are way too small for me.
You can change your font size in "settings" "system"
Even on huge it is too small for me.
That is the beauty of this ROM, you can make it look how ever you want. If you go to paranoid settings, you can set it up to be just regular CM9 by changing everything to phone dpi.
I agree, the default DPI that comes with the rom is a bit tiny. I restored everything to stock phone DPI and it was fine for me. For me, compared to CM9 it seemed a lil sluggish. There were also a couple things that still needed to be tweaked, so I switched back for daily use (latest tester + Bsydz kernel). Thank you so much for all your hard work, Bsydz!
Just recently installed the April 7th tester. Landscape video is still glitchy. I've only had one random reboot. It's a little laggy but maybe that's just me. Other than that it's a great rom. Also, I can't seem to find a good DPI. Whenever I change the DPI the homescreen and the app drawer doesn't seem to change. Any ideas?
Are you changing the DPI for Trebuchet?

I think I was messing with the kernel when I built the latest tester, any sluggishness can be fixed by flashing the GPU test kernel. Also, I set the Trebuchet(launcher) to 160 dpi as default, so it would show more apps, just go to paranoid settings, choose list of apps, then find the app and set the dpi to phone dpi or something above 160, if you want the icons to be bigger.

I'll have a new release in a few days, with most everything worked out. I've been slacking so I gotta do my taxes before the tax man comes knocking at my door. :D

Edit: Any time that you change dpi in paranoid settings you have to reboot for it to take effect.

Fantastic!!! Changed the Trebuchet DPI and it's finally how I want it. I set it to 192 in case anyone needs a ballpark number. I really think this is the perfect rom if camera ever gets fully working (video, ffc) but so far I'm loving it. The landscape video issue is still there though btw.

Edit: MMS just crashed on me too. The process quits as soon as you hit send.

When MMS crashed on me, I originally restored apps using Titanium. I got rid of GoSMS since I am ok with the stock messaging app, and that's when I noticed MMS crashing. I also redid a fresh install just to be sure and same thing happened. I believe I was able to receive MMS (tho a 60kb download took an unusually long time), trying to send caused the crash.

When last I flashed it, I restored only the APK's of user apps, followed by data of the few apps I need to restore individually. I've never restored a system app. Since flashing, I haven't changed any dpi, and I haven't had a repeat of the problem. Great news, as I'd like to keep this rom.
For a while I was starting to have pretty regular restarts until I raised the minimum CPU speed. Then I flashed the new kernel. Now it's mostly "like buttah".

What's up guys? The only reason I am not posting this as a release for now, is I left out quite a few proprietary files that I don't think we need. We may need them for some advanced operations, but I have not ran into any issues. Fixed MMS (reverted signature), fixed lag (kernel), added Assisted GPS option in settings ( does NOT do anything at the moment), and landscape video does not glitch any more. I have pushed all my latest changes to MT-ParanoidAndroid, including app and settings overlays. I'm gonna put together a readme for the device and vendor files, I am also trying to make the commits easier to decipher.

Some tips that should help out a few people:

There is an app called ParanoidAndroid, with a big green face as the icon, this is a back up tool for your custom setup. After you have your Paranoid Settings all set up, reboot for them to take effect, then use the app to back them up. When you reinstall or update, once it loads go to the ParanoidAndroid app and restore. It will then ask you to reboot, allow it and you will be back to how you had it in a few minutes.

I am pretty sure, that there is enough space now to install Google Now offline and the symlinked Gapps, I have been running it like that since the cam test build. To update wipe cache, install ROM, intall Now offline, then install symlinked Gapps, and then reboot. If you run in to any issues with apps like Play then just force close and wipe the apps data.

Having the Statusbar at the bottom (Tablet ui), will cause issues with some apps not knowing that the bar is not on top, leaving an unused space at the top of the screen. This is not an issue with the Statusbar set to Phone ui in Paranoid Settings. This requires a reboot to take effect, but allows games to go fullscreen also. I don't use Netflix or any video services on my phone, so I am not sure if it also applies there.

Let me know how this goes. Any details that you notice might help, Like I said I removed a bunch of proprietary files to either discard them or to allow the system to build them.

I'm giving this a shot, and it's running great so far. Thanks for all your hard work!
Hey Adam, I have been checking logs, and found this. I think this may be a key to the front camera.

I am working on this file, system/core/init/property_service.c, adding this line { "libcamera.", AID_MEDIA, 1013 }, We'll see what happens. I think we may have to edit the init.triumph.rc and ueventd.triumph.rc, to fix the permissions.

I also found errors about not being able to load libmmparser.so and libmmparser_lite.so, I'll update the vendor make file to include them again.

HAHAHAHAHA! Working front cam!!!!!!
OK, here is a rebuild of the ROM above. We now have working front camera!!! I also included the two files that were needed for an underlying system process.

Edit: Video still doesn't work. But, Skype signs in with video call enabled now, haven't tested it yet.

HAHAHAHAHA! Working front cam!!!!!!

Wow, congratulations, great find! I never noticed that permission denied, and it seemed like the i2c stuff was working...

Great job, man. I wish I had more time to look at this stuff, I've been way to busy recently =[

How do I make everything not so damn tiny? lol
For those of you that have trouble seeing the smaller fonts, I put together a zip to help you out. Just flash in recovery, either when installing or anytime after.

So I've been testing the new build of PA.I love it!Front cam works great took a pic with it.Skype works but when I got a video call from a friend on Skype I got kicked off my Wi-Fi.So I video called them back when I was able to get back on my Wi-Fi and it worked! We were on the call for like 10 minutes then it got disconnected I think.I'll run logcat if I any of this happens again.Outside that AMAZING work BSydz on this.Hope the $10 keeps you in coffee for awhile. Now to conquer JellyBean ;)

This ROM rocks. great work. I usually just lurk, but I went ahead and made an account to comment on this. It's that awesome. Runs really smooth (using smartassV2 governor and top clock speed at ~1500MHz) and a lot of the random bugs I ran into on the CM9 based PA are gone. I have yet to test the tethering (both wireless and wired). Camera is kicking all sorts of ass except video. Panoramic and regular pics both worked perfectly on the rear camera. the front cam is on, but I didn't try snapping anything.

Google Now is also much more responsive than it used to be. I really want to get in on this ROM devving business, but I need a dedicated machine for that first (I've been down to just my laptop for a while). The last time I tried grabbing the source was a nightmare.

Now for some questions:
How is everyone's GPS? I've been using a patch I found on XDA since day 1, it's the only way it ever worked for me. The lock was just too damn slow otherwise.
Next, who's overclocking, what settings do you use, and what's the performance bump?

This latest update is amazing, started the GPS to log a run, and it locked super fast, and the app I used never rebooted or lost connection while I was using it, everything seems to be running incredibly smoothly and even the battery usage stats work, only downside is my battery is dying super fast, but that always happens when reinstalling all the apps and using gps, overall it's an amazing rom

I second that opinion, this latest update is amaze-balls. I haven't had a chance to test the GPS, but will try it out on my ride home from work.

Everything is running very smooth and snappy. No reboots or signal drops so far. Headset button works as well, which is nice.

My battery also seemed to drain quickly; batt stats report it's my screen that's hoggin' the juice, so I don't doubt that it's from tweaking settings and restoring apps. Good to see it all working though.

And the front camera! Oh, the front camera!! It's so nice, so very nice... snapped a few photos and they saved. Total awesome sauce.

Bsydz, you are a beast!

So far I'm liking this ROM! Coming from the old Sharp ROM.

Couple of things. Not to be picky, but can we have something between the stock size and the Old Folks Mode? Really like the original look, but it was a tad small, OFM is way too big -- how do I revert?

Second, went to install Google Now, but system size shows only 10.4MB free, I see I need 60MB or at least 30MB for live install. Internal shows 961MB free plus lots of room on the SD.

Got to say using this is like having a new phone ---- Thanks for your efforts.
