Help Camera Flash not working properly

artbytes

Android Enthusiast
My Galaxy GS3 is about 7 months old. The flash has just stopped working properly. When I set it to flash, I can watch and see that the flash does indeed go off. However, it's either too weak or the timing is off, because the photos are very dark as though there is no flash at all. I frequently use the flash in instances where there is a brighter light behind the subject to illuminate their faces. That's totally not working now and I can't get any photos that look good. Does anyone have any ideas about what it could be? Is it definitely a hardware issue - or do you think there might be a software fix.

Thanks.

That has the ring of a hardware issue, artbytes. I'd return for repair or replacement.

The remedies I see around for that reported issue and issues like it have to do with rooting and installing different firmware, etc. If you want to go that route, you may find yourself having to reinstall the original firmware to get the device in the condition that is acceptable for a replacement because the rooting/flashing firmware methods are not 100% successful.

Thanks. I bought the phone through Costco. My carrier is ATT. Do I contact one of them or Samsung?

Samsung. Your carrier's store floor monkeys will just tell you to contact the manufacturer, in most cases. ;)

That's what I dislike about dealing with carrier/provider retail outlets: there is very little consistency as to their reaction and/or advice with these issues. Sometimes you'll run into a real tech, other times a Taco Bell veteran who will look at you like they want YOU to tell them what to do, just like they did at Taco Bell. :D

Good luck.
Hope it all goes smoothly and quickly for you. I hate havin to do stuff like that too
P.s, contact Costco, your carrier and samsung at same time. Send the same email to them all and see who gives the best reply. If they wana repair instead of replace then choose samsung and cut out the middle man :)
