Upcoming Phones that may sway you

Hey all,

This is for Note 2 owners. What upcoming phones could sway you away from Note 2 (or even Note 3)? My carrier is SPRINT.

For me, this is the list: (requirement is LTE triband to be compatible with upcoming Sprint LTE)

1. Nexus 4 LTE: smaller size, quicker updates (hopefully despite being on CDMA), 32GB internal memory; hopefully LG fixes some of the issues (dull screen colors, overheating S4 PRO, average at best camera)

2. Nexus 5: Of course. Rumored to be plenty powerful (Snapdragon 800)...but will it be on CDMA at all initially? How much if it does indeed have top-shelf hardware? Google promised much better camera...can it do it?

3. LG Optimus Pro Sprint: rumor yesterday showed a potential LG phone coming to Sprint with S800 chip and similar model number to Optimus PRO (just released on ATT)! It could be LG Optimus PRO (which currently has S600 chip on ATT) or a variant of it. This could be very nice...5.5" 1080P LCD screen, S800 chip (prob even better than Exynos 5 Octa), slightly slimmer profile than Note 2, removable back with SD, and a half-decent 13 MP camera. No stylus (which I don't use anyway on Note 2).

4. X-Phone from Moto: sounds good, but probably a mid-range phone...but who knows?! I don't have much hope in this as I do Nexus 5.

5. Sony Xperia i1: This is one that I am keeping a very close eye on! Rumor has it having a 5.0" Bravia 1080p screen, S800, 16-20 MP camera (rumored to beat the best out there), water/dust resistance, 32 GB internal; but then again, Sony has had a pretty bad history of update delays, lackluster interface, no removable back, no SD. 20 MP pics will fill up that internal memory fast! But, the overlay from Sony is very minimal...so, unlike Touchwiz or Sense, you get a near stock Android feel.

For me, I am most interested in Sony x1, Nexus 5, and the LG phones. Nexus 4 LTE has me mildly interested if it does have triband LTE AND if LG made some fixes to it (kinda like going from iPhone 4 to 4S).

A team of Clydesdale's couldn't pull me away from my Note II. Haven't seen anything out now or on the horizon that interests me. :D

Leave the note 2?

Nope!!
Why get another phone when the note 2 does everything brilliantly and as fast as I'd need.

Until Samsung invent a phone that can make me a sandwich I'm staying :)

For me, I am kind of force into upgrading by year's end because Sprint is opening up 2 other LTE bands (= triband LTE). So, I would like to have a phone that can take advantage of Sprint LTE triband. Current phones, including Note 2, GS4, and HTC One, are only single band LTE (1900 Mhz) on Sprint. At the end of year, Sprint will add 800 Mhz and 2500 Mhz along with the 1900. 800 Mhz band is the nice one. Current phones will be incompatible with these two new bands (800/2500).

Hopefully, the above mentioned phones will be tri-band LTE.

Only reason for me would be for music, the HTC one looks nice.

Otherwise, no way! Note 2 4 ever! :D

External speakers are useless for me other than blasting ringtones when a call comes thru. I use earphones 99.999% of the time, even for movies.

sorry i'm staying with my Note.....

I'm with Sprint too, but no way I'm forcing myself to upgrade again this year. Note 3 rumors sound intriguing, but only way I decide to try that out is if they fit that 6 inch screen in the current form factor or darn near close enough that I wouldn't be able to tell. Otherwise, I'm more-so holding out until 2014's crop of phones. I want a foldable screen phone like they had in Samsung's mock commercial.

I'm so glad I came across this thread.

There was a time whenever the next greatest phones was released I was jumping on it like a cat addicted to the nip. The Note 2 is the 1st phone I've had that when I read/hear about newer phones I just go meh....and move on.

The only phone I'm looking forward to is the Note 3.
I'm not a loyalist to any manufacturer but when it comes to the Note line, it fills the void I've been missing in phones since Palm. My stylus based phone was the Samsung SPH-i500 and Samsung bought it back full circle with the Note.

Anybody who was anybody that knew somebody was something with this phone. :D

That phone was the business! Also my last Samsung phone until the note 2!

I agree. Note 2 is pretty nice. The cell reception is just fabulous!! The ONLY things that are making me look beyond it:

1. Sprint LTE is undergoing a major change that should result in much better LTE performance and reception by year end (in areas that have LTE currently). Current Note 2 won't be able to take advantage of this.

2. My upgrade is coming in July.

3. My Note 2 is on its last leg...i am clumsy guy with kids. My flash is cracked and non-functional. I do have a few scratches on screen. (I do admit that Note 2 has been less than sturdy with me...i have never had anything broken from a drop with case before.) My current case is Platinum hard plastic case with stand.

4. Because i am clumsy with kids, i want a more sturdy case next time around...if so, then i may want a slightly lower profile phone (aka smaller). Note 2 + sturdy case is just too damn big for me (and my hip which is where i carry phone). Rumor has it that Note 3 is slightly bigger/taller...that may surpass my limit.

Did you get the Note 2 at full retail price? I'm figuring that's how you are upgrade eligible in July.

Sounds like you should absolutely downgrade to a smaller sized phone. For anybody to say that their Note 2 (barely released at the end of October) is on its last legs...that just shouldn't be the case for anyone.

Well, Sprint had an issue with my iPhone 5 that could not be fixed by either Sprint nor Apple. Very strange problem. Anyway, Sprint allowed me to get a new phone of my choice, non-Apple of course. BUT, at the same time, my requirement was that they not change my upgrade date. (I got iPhone 5 from another line on my account.) So, i am due for an upgrade this July on my own line.

I am clumsy with all my phones...because i am fairly rough with it. It is my work and personal phone. My kids play with it also when i am not using it. This is the first phone that actually suffered PHYSICALLY (beyond scratches) from my abuse. So, size is NOT the problem why it is being abused.

One thing to consider, even though it's still just rumor, but Note 3 is supposedly going to have the "unbreakable" plastic screen. Even though the screen size will supposedly increasing. Keep that in mind, for your situation.

Very good point...but my screen is still fine! :D It is my camera flash that has seen the end of days.

Heck, I'm planning on going TO a Note 2 from my S2 and original Note when they get really cheap used. :D
The other plan is to ditch smartphones all together and try to grab one of those neat little Nokia 301's (the t9, not the Asha) to go with my 4g tablet. I'm sick of the battery life and fragility of these things. I can't even take either of the above two to work!

Then you need Sony i1 noted above. Water & dust resistance. Top end specs. Add Otterbox Defender. You're done...the perfect workman's smartphone!

Right now I am using a S4, HTC One, LG Optimus G Pro (5.5 inch 1080) and the Note II.

The HTC would by my top pic, followed by a tie between the G and the Note (the G is faster all around and the screen is awesome but I love the damn S Pen) with the S4 coming in last.

Which one has the best cell reception???

My priorities are radios with excellent range, especially wifi, a screen that's readable for long sessions, and excellent battery endurance. The Note 2 delivers on those. I'm surprised and delighted to be handwriting again after a 20 year layoff. What other phone does all that?

I'll settle for some jelly beans....lol

Note 2 all the way!:D

Right now it would be pretty foolish to "upgrade" to a new phone as the note 2 is still among the most capable.android devices around. However, from the standpoint of someone looking for a new phkne who is currently on something worse a note 2 would not be my recommendation. I'd recommend the htc one or the s4 or tell them to wait and see what google can churn out for its nexus lineup. For people on a budget i'd probably suggest a galaxy s3 (they wouldnt feel much difference between it and a s4) or a nexus 4 which can be picked up for 20$
