they charge tax on a gift card? those bastards

That's weird. I have never heard of, or paid, tax on a gift card...

Thats double taxing, you pay tax on the gift card when you buy it, and when you use the gift card to buy something, you pay tax again...Thats not right....

Really!? That would be awesome. I would love for this to stay because I think people have gotten to know each other and stuff and its nice, kind of homey. you know?

Plus I would love to see how those people react after getting the phone and hear raves and complaints about the phone.

I feel the same way.. in fact a lot of us are on the chat channel listed in my signature, right now even :)

Any video of the DI web surfing sites with flash embedded yet?

As far as I know there are only 2 videos of the actual device around. The somewhat old one that was released a while ago in Spanish, and the one from the 99 Conference.

I am disappointed that we've not yet seen any images or videos from the "friends" of this forum yet. The embargo should be lifted on Monday, so they've basically got from now until Monday morning to "scoop" anyone with images or videos.

It's just odd that the internal documents were getting leaked pretty steadily, but now even though the device is out there, people are actually treating the stuff as confidential. Why is leaking confidential docs ok, but showing images and video of it before the NDA opens up on Monday not ok?

It's not that I don't appreciate all of the other info that was leaked, it's just that I was really hoping to see some impressions here before all of the other more mainstream sites have their videos up.

Not true.

Legally you cannot charge tax on a gift card because you are essentially taxing currency. They are charging tax on a portion of the phone which is legal and then you pay the remaining cost of the phone and the remaining tax on that amount which makes you whole again as far as what you are buying and how much tax you are paying.

So when we pre-order these phones do we get them shipped out before the 29th or does Verizon honor the free next day shipping ON the 29th which means we get them the 30th or are free to go into the nearest Verizon store and pick it up ON the 29th?

No. They took no phone information. I only needed to pay the $50 and put my name, address, and phone number on a piece of paper. They put that paper, along with my receipt, into file with all the other preorders. The $50 gift card, if I understood correctly, is attached to the phone hardwareand can only be used to buy the phone (I could be wrong about that though...it doesn't look any different than a normal one, it says "Happy Birthday" lol)

If you get no insurance, then you'd be SOL. I had a phone once that didn't have insurance and the screen cracked....they said, "sorry, you don't have insurance, there is nothing we can do"

And now for the pic of my receipt.....

The mobile alabama store is selling the phones super early!

But that is what I was saying...you can't charge tax on a gift card...

But they didn't sell him a gift card anyway, so its all good.

English please? ;)

Technically, a store could sell pre-orders earlier than the april 19th pre-order for Verizon because they don't have to file those pre-orders with Verizon immediately i'm sure.

They could just accept a pre-order, put it in some file with a bunch of others, and then on april 19th, send that info to Verizon to secure a pre-order for that customer and Verizon wouldn't really know or care as long as nobody attempted to send them a pre-order before the april 19th date.

hey does this activation fee only pertain to people who are starting a new account or does that include upgrades as well?

english please? ;)
