if you buy your phone from radio shack or best buy, will they set up your gmail/other emails on the phone for you, or is that only if you go to an actual sprint store?

Not sure but I set up my wife's email accounts on her hero in less than 3 mins. I think you will be fine. Just your user name and pin. Program does the rest;)

Man so Google (Gmail) is really making this easy for me. Now does android have a program like PIM backup that can backup the entire PIM/SIM onto a file and save onto the SD card like on crackberries or WinMo?

We're going to be covering this when the EVO gets closer to launch. I haven't studied the Google Sync that Gekko mentioned, so that might very well be the answer, but everyone that plans on getting the EVO should open a Gmail account before you get the phone.

I have the HTC Hero and I have Gmail, but I didn't understand the connection between the two at first. What I learned is an Android phone will automatically read from your Gmail contact list and automatically import them into your phone.

Back when the Nexus One was released I read a post from one person that said they had hundreds (well, maybe not hundreds) of contacts that ended up on their phone and a majority of them weren't even people they had contact with any longer.

For those getting anxious about the EVO, one thing you can do right now is open a Gmail account. If you already Gmail, all you have to do is select contacts and start editing. Even after you've had the phone for awhile, you can edit your contacts in Gmail. I find that sometimes it's easier to edit from my desktop computer than it is with my phone.

From what I understand, the EVO does support Exchange, so that should help corporate users, but you will also be able to bring in your contacts from MS Outlook. Whether you're using Outlook or Gmail, you can still get your contact information just the way you want it before you get your new phone. If none of these fit, you might try the import/export feature from your e-mail program so you have a head start.

Yeah I had a gmail account a long time ago. I just made a new one a couple weeks ago with the anticipation of the EVO.

i've never played with an Instinct but i've read nothing but complaints about it. so much for it being the iphone killer way back when! i have played with a launch Hero and i thought it was OK but i wasn't blown away by it. it seemed kind of clunky and slow. i'm hoping the EVO will be night and day given the Snapdragon 1GHZ, more RAM, 4G, and newer Android 2.X and optimized Sense.

my Centro is great for PIM, phonecalls, email, stream radio, FTP, viewing office docs, and very basic web surfing, but the small screen, wimpy browser, antiquated OS, etc etc etc is crushing me right now.

i can't wait for real web browsing on a 4.3" display and real PUSH email and HTML email!

despite all the complaints my wife loved her instinct but she got it 2 or 3 weeks before the pre casue she needed a new phone lol once the pre came out she changed to it... then a hero.. then a moment and soon an evo lol

oh and web browsing on a 4.3 is impressive but I really wanted to do some heavy duty browsing I can just pull my laptop out mifi it to my evo (well touch pro 2 right now) and get it on a much bigger screen lol

GAHHH ajac you need to get this straight, the device they showed at CTIA was a PROTOTYPE! I can't stress that enough. For pete sake there were two fricken models there! One with the red grill that all the sprint employees had and the silver one via HTC.I realize the one that we will get will be silver but thats not the point, there were two different models still in existence then, and we dont know the differences between them yet....

As far as it passing through the FCC. This was done after CTIA so the final phjone is indeed complete =]. The problem here is, and this goes right inturn with what self praise said, there are only 12 real in circulation! HAHAHA, i love Dan(my source) but he is not that important! The only people to get one are Dan Hesse and Clan. SO lay OFF

hmmm. So there are 12 final models in use. Does this mean the mass production will start now? Then what was that radioshack number?

i have a backup app you might like. shoot me a PM with your email address and i'll send you some Android Apps i've been collecting in anticipation of getting my EVO.

Does anyone have suggestions for videos to replace those that were on the first page? I had to remove two that were made for/by Sprint, because they were pulled. :(

The Evo will be much smoother than the HD2, everything just flows soooo nicely! I promise =]

Thanks for everyone for sticking by me, you guys are the best and i will stay here because of you and ignore the hater.

and where is your proof on this? till I see the proof I am doubting it. Becasue it makes 0 sense. No reason to show off the prototype THEN publish its information on their developers website as well as their own if its gonna change. What your saying makes 0 sense oh and speaking of the 12 I got curious on that and asked my local sprint store... they have one and look it has the stats of it are the same as on sprint.com. Wish they would have let me take some pictures but I was allowed to makes sense but take that as you will. Oh and something tells me their are probably more then 12 since they told me they are training on it and their advocate has had his only for a few days now. So from what I've seen wtih my eyes from 3 sources oh I guess 4 since I watched it live on CTIA what sprint.com has is what we are getting. Now unless they release ANOTHER version later OR push release date to july we wont be seeing different stats. Just using common sense here and a big of bugging my local sprint store. So argue with me all you want hate my line of thinking wont change anything as I have seen enough to know their isnt any hardware changes coming. Heck everyone go to your local sprint store and go bug them about seeing it after awhle they will let ya (if they are like my store then again they let me handle a pre a month or so before release guess they like me)

yes - best to set up a Gmail Account asap and get your Contact and Calendar data into it so when you get your EVO you enter in your user name and password and sync and you'll be good to go! IMO do this all in advance why waste time fumbling around with a Sprint Rep and also risk them seeing confidential data.

the PIM data migration should be easy for most. and the beauty is that once it's in Gmail - you never have to worry about it again at the next upgrade. it's plug and play. free true PUSH email will also be sweet.

Shibo is heading in the exact direction as i am. It was already done.

BTW here are more pics of the iphone HD http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/04/4g-twitpic-rm-eng.jpg

^nothing compared to our evo, it's not even a close one...

ha theres the link, god i can be an idiot sometiems

you guys didn't really think that was the new iPhone did you? I've never had an iPhone and at first glance I knew it was an early prototype at best.

Turns out it's not even that though,

When you say, "where is your proof on this?", are you referring to the idea of a prototype? If so, there's no sense in fighting with Jackson about it. Maybe the term prototype isn't the right word, but when the EVO was announced at CTIA, they said the phone wasn't finished yet and that we could expect some surprises when the phone gets closer to launch. Isn't that proof enough?

What doesn't make sense? The fact the EVO 4G being shown wasn't close to final production, which Sprint stated there at CTIA, or the fact that if Sprint didn't show anything at CTIA, people would had bitched and moaned Sprint to death? People blindly thinks that Friday was Sprint fault, and not the people using FB Closing Date = Breaking News. My Verizon device was more capable than the EVO, at that time of the event. It wasn't a prototype device, and I agree that doesn't make sense. It was a near release but not final device. This is why you see the same apps over and over, in many different videos. Sprint is still adding features to it, regardless of the SDK being posted. What won't happen is huge hardware changes, like a brand new screen. The phone has a TFT LCD now, and it will have a TFT LCD when the phone goes gold. Ram/Rom can be done easily, without the risk of pushing back the dates.

And the line of bugging your local Sprint store. What would they know about the Supersonic, internally? While you're at it, recommend people to go Live Chat with Sandra K, and find out the exact cost, plan details, and date release as well. Both will give you the same result.

well i'll never make that mistake again! i'll be watching and make sure to correct you when it happens. glass houses.

but i do get annoyed when i see these two and over again -

"loose" vs. "lose"

"rediculous"

You need to loose the attitude, it's getting rediculous. :D

ajac was called out last night for being so negative. Unfortunately, it was done in a hateful way, but then the forum member apologized to ajac later. I've asked ajac if he couldn't be a little more positive with his posts, because people don't like his attitude. I'm at the point where I don't even want to read anything he says anymore. If he's either being hated or ignored, how effective is he at getting his point across?

Since you're the one guy around here Self Praise that really does know what's going on, I appreciate it that you stepped in more than once to set the record straight.

I don't have the time, nor really could say the things that I want to say. It just get to a point where I'm reading all I've missed, and read something completely off. This is when I do what polkadots said, and be the voice of reason. Honestly, I want to post more in the Incredible thread, but it will probably bring out another side of me. I loathe fanboy/girlism.
There's no such thing as a perfect anything, but only something that's perfect for you. I have the PS3, so it's my job to tell you that every other system sucks, and Sony is the best. What's even worse is that it's grown men behaving like this, and not really the teenagers. It's annoying. People hate Sprint because of the bandwagon, that's it. That and phone selection, which has a certain point. At the end of the day, the EVO 4G will create a bandwagon for Sprint, and change their phone selections for the better. I'm already working on them.

@ Self Praise - Things are only going to get worse as we wait. I wish Sprint would agree to having you throw us some tidbits from time to time. It would make the waiting a little easier if you do.

Couldn't agree more with what Self Praise said. I've only been here a short while and I'm sick of reading all the Apple/Mac bashing from all the android fan boys lol. It's just a smart phone people.

I was also called a troll because I have some issues with my Droid. Gimme a break

On the other hand, thanks to all that have posted credible/useful info on the EVO. I've decided that I'll be getting the EVO instead of the Incredible. I can't wait!

i will buy the best product offering the best value. period. i don't care if it's from Palm, Android/HTC, Apple, Microsoft, RIM, or anyone else. i'm platform agnostic and it will be a year to year thing for me.

"I don't marry mobile OS platforms. I date them."

No GoldenstatePanda, they will have video conference . we all seen the Qik videos . if you go to qik.com and look at the 4G testing he demonstrates it . I was just showing that video where he mentioned it because I was still excited about it so when he mentioned it I was like man I should post this again .

I'm confused you have a $25 gift card? What is this extra $75 you are talking about? If you are within your upgrade period you should get the phone for the same cost as all new customers which is rumored to be $200-$250.

I don't know if it was cleared up yet but what he meant by the 75$ part was since it has not been a year yet he get's 75$ off instead of a instant 150.00 off . Cause I to am a premiere customer and can upgrade every year with 150.00 off if i try before the year like idk 6 months or close to a year i get 75 off and when i wait for the 2yr contract which is for everyone we all get the full . But if that's the case I think I might do the same . then go to the sprint store and get accessories since premiere customers get 25% off on that .

what's the deal with the 25% off accessories discount for Premier customers? last year they gave us a card. is it now automatic? unlimited? i will need to buy a car charger and two extra wall chargers (office and travel) for my EVO. i don't mind paying a little more to get Sprint OEM chargers but i'd like my 25% discount.
