Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Gekko , yea internet is smooth and I personally wouldn't mind waiting . the wait is usually a couple days for me even when ordered over the phone from sprint . and i learned from a youtube video on how to properly charge your battery to get the best use out of it when you first get it . and i also wouldnt mind the wait i mean you know it's coming right :-)

obviously charge it fully using the wall charger and don't use it when you first get it . but i heard when the light is green still give it 2-3hrs more cause it goes into a trickle mode and it's not exactly 100% just yet . then after that your good and use your phone until it dies then charge it the same way again but using the USB to the pc this time. I heard that's the condition part of charging then after that you can either condition it again after it dies of use or use it as you please and charge when needed like normally . just a tip for anyone ;-p

I could be wrong (it does happen from time to time! :p), but I am pretty sure that most newer batteries don't need this conditioning phase. Basically with newer batteries, like the ones in a Pre, TP, Hero, EVO, etc... you don't have to condition or train the battery. You can charge it whenever, just to top it off if you want and you don't have to run them down low and recharge to full capacity. They don't have a "memory" like old school NiCad batteries.

What kind of batteries to the Pre, Hero, etc...have...NiMh or something like that?

Ya know, Just thinking about the screen size...I wonder if we're gonna have app screensize problems. Like Slacker radio doesn't fit on my TP screen. I can use it but buttons on the bottom are missing cause my screen is too short. It works though! Just can't skip and stuff.

No problems should arise. The 3.7" screens are the same resolution. Evo just has fatter pixels ;)

they are Lithium Ion and don't need conditioning.

100% agree with a block user option. I use it all the time in the Yahoo stocks message boards. I could really have used a feature like that in the Incredible forum. Here is a million times better, but as the story of Evo gets long in the tooth, politeness is often overlooked.

You can add users to ignore which will block their posts.

------->Just click your user name on the top right where it says "Welcome, [your username]".

-------->Then look at the left of your screen or just ctrl s for "user CP". Click that.

------------>Scroll down and under Settings and Options on the left you will see "Edit Ignore List". Then just add the name of the person you want to ignore.

"Evo has fatter pixels" LOL that right there should be the marketing campaign slogan. Thanks for the laugh Norril!!

Seriously though I think there should be "4G" only apps the same way the iPad has custom apps that iPhone can't run. It would be cool to have that exclusivity with our phone.

What doesn't make sense? The fact the EVO 4G being shown wasn't close to final production, which Sprint stated there at CTIA, or the fact that if Sprint didn't show anything at CTIA, people would had bitched and moaned Sprint to death? People blindly thinks that Friday was Sprint fault, and not the people using FB Closing Date = Breaking News. My Verizon device was more capable than the EVO, at that time of the event. It wasn't a prototype device, and I agree that doesn't make sense. It was a near release but not final device. This is why you see the same apps over and over, in many different videos. Sprint is still adding features to it, regardless of the SDK being posted. What won't happen is huge hardware changes, like a brand new screen. The phone has a TFT LCD now, and it will have a TFT LCD when the phone goes gold. Ram/Rom can be done easily, without the risk of pushing back the dates.

And the line of bugging your local Sprint store. What would they know about the Supersonic, internally? While you're at it, recommend people to go Live Chat with Sandra K, and find out the exact cost, plan details, and date release as well. Both will give you the same result.

any hardware change would push release back has to go through the entire processes again. and I still see nothing beyond heresay. and till something offical shows up or someone has one and shows a screen shot of the "changes" then right now its just rumor to add to add the other rumors. Not arguing with jackson but right now his logic makes 0 sense and I feel as if his "source" knows as much as anyone else does by googling for it. Now Once they publish diffrent stats then I will believe it. But till then I am seriously doubting it and always will till something concrete comes out and you all worship the very ground jackson walks on but if anyone took the time to google you'd find 99% of this information before he tells you.

From my own personal experience as an electrical engineer who has gone through the FCC certification process with video products years ago, I can tell you this simply...

1. FCC certification just means that your product complies with Federal regulated standards for communications and does not emit frequencies or electrical "noise" that interferes with the operating frequencies of other products or devices. The European equivalent version is "CE"

2. Your device doesn't have to be "fully functional" as far as being able to certify it for FCC. They don't care if your system is not consumer ready as long as you can prove that the device or system DOES NOT emit electrical noise or interference during its normal operation. It is ideal, however, to have a (what we used to call) a "gold" unit which is most electrically shielded and as operational as possible to operate at a minimal state.

3. At conventions, shows, etc you can display and demonstrate products that aren't FCC certified yet as long as you DO NOT sell them to the public. Consumer ready products MUST be FCC compliant.

Ok in the case of the EVO, it CAN pass FCC if:

1. The radios at all stated operating frequencies are within the accepted operating range as defined by the FCC for Wifi b/g, EVDO, and 4G.

2. The other components for cell phone operation are within CDMA frequency standards etc etc

3. None of the applications push the components within the device to operate in a manner that emit interference or electrical noise.

I hope this clarifies your question. The device as far as apps and all functionalities don't have to work or be consumer ready. Just that a testable device can prove that there are no interfering electrical noise that is emitted during normal use.

Cary, maybe you can answer this for me: Why were AT&T, Cingular and all the others on GSM able to get approval, when every time you use their networks, it makes all your speakers sound like electronic chickens are clucking? My feeling is someone at FCC really made a bundle in bribes, to get that crap passed through.

Not poking a jab here. I believe everythign you stated above. I am just mystified how that crap ever made it through. Now every mission critical piece of electronics has to be shielded, just in case someone is standing near and gets a call on their AT&T phone.

Oh okay . You know I never knew that Polkdots . Can learn something new everyday of course . Thanks once again . I just thought I mention cause we all know android can be a battery killer . And the video I seen he had a Nexus One . & my Hero needs daily charging =/ . But I think that's more of a bug issue . I personally think when the Hero came out it was doing to much for it's own specs . I think the Desire is what the Hero should of been and if they wanted to keep it mid level wise the Legend should of been today's Hero , then the Desire should be the next one up from that . But I'm pleased with the Hero . I was very excited when it was rumored and had it's stories .

But when I go buy it I will ask just to know . I just want the best out of all my devices .

and ajac it's cool man . doesnt matter anymore . we all are waiting and that's all we can do . i think everyone in this forum is cool with that . we are so close . it's just a phone . it won't save your life or shoot a hologram of your fantasy girl . it will do what any other cell phone does . make a call and recieve them with avdanced features . at then end of the day it's a cell phone and it will give you minor probs you wish it didn't have cause every cell phone does . so it's okay man . you came from the sprint forums just like i so let's get more info and share and joke etc . this forum is so much better . and i only been in this forum for a couple days or so and got more info here on this phone ( most i knew already) but in other areas to then i did from the ground up in the sprint forums . just so they dont sit like rocks i may post something from here over on sprint so they can try to keep up and i also leave them a link to come here . all we want to do is share info and talk about all kinds of tech when it comes to phones . cause when the phone is released are you going to have something to say bad again ? why are you never satisfied ? i'm not arguing either i'm simply asking . cause i'm curious .

yup and adding in hardware components and a screen will change the emissions given off thus needs to go through fcc again. I wish someone had a screen shot of the so called prototype Id love to see the codes on the back.

the hero was an awesome phone but they should have taken the processor from the moment and put in a fatter battery and it would have been even better. Though if you don't care to much about how your phone looks you can get a 3200mah battery for 70 bucks at least 60-70 hours between charges but rur phone looks like it ate a cow.

No problem. These newer SmartPhones are battery killers - just a fact of life. I have a wall charger for home, a car charger, and a USB cable/charger for work. Keeps me covered.

I'm trying to figure out what the best place to buy from is, I'm looking at Sprint, Best Buy and Walmart. Looking at doing a 5 person family plan when the EVO comes out, none of us are on Sprint.
Both Best Buy and Walmart seem to have lower prices than Sprint, Walmart looks to be the lowest but it looks like it might just be a sale right now. I'm digging the fact that Walmart and Best Buy don't require mail-in rebates. The other thing is I know you can often get the activation fee waved but I am not sure who does that usually and under what circumstances.
Any suggestions?

Id say themain thing to focus on for you is how to guarantee 5 phones at the same location without a pre-order =). Best Buy and Wally mart use instant rebates, but best buy does pre orders and wally mart usually does not. BUT lots of wally marts open at midnight too so.....=) I'm getting mine at best buy mose likely. Have gotten all my phones from them and have had zero issues. I like the geek squad insurance plan too, they cover a lost or stolen phone.

Yea ajac I know about the 3200mah bat . I stated that earlier in the forum . I think I will get that when needed . Cause over the summer I have many plans . & while using the bulky bat i can have the standard one on charge ready to use when i'm on chill mode and out with friends .

I have the palm pre..so I am not sure how thats going to work since its done the same way.

Palm Pre already syncs your contacts with Gmail so you should already be covered. in fact you calendar data will come right over to android as well. I won't include any info you get from facebook though, but I believe sense UI has a way to do that built in

Haha ! Ya gf sounds like she is by your side . Got a good one . But wow that's crazy for them to take it like that when somebody wants to cancel . they must get in trouble or something if people want to cancel or something .

You all know how we have to pay a state tax on cell phones and I remember when Sprint tried to charge me for a FL state tax on it ! I clearly live in VA ! I used to live in FL but that was almost a year and I never knew until I noticed these random charges . & I was like I have unlimited everything So what can I be charged with that I dont know . All carriers have there dark side . But I can handle Sprint :-)

yea sense ui it gives you the option under each contact when putting in personal info about them and ask you do you want to sync photo and birthday of them . and you keep up with them etc

@ Self Praise - Things are only going to get worse as we wait. I wish Sprint would agree to having you throw us some tidbits from time to time. It would make the waiting a little easier if you do.

Now this approach I like :) Sprint can authorize him/her to post news and thus not break the NDA. Nice move Bill!

Unfortunately, if Sprint is like my company, Praise wil have to go to th PMs, the DM, and most likelyt he SVP of WW Marketing, just to get that approval and I can bet they will just chuckle or be annoyed.

But I still like that you are working it Bill :)

PS. Thanks Self Praise for all you have been able to tell us!!

PSS. Dang I am bored! Been on the road for days and just sitting in hotel room, with nothing to do now, but catch up on Evo thread and put off doing some more work email. (Bad Norril!)

I'll bite. Right now, you are creating points over a topic that's beyond hearsay. How do you know that the device went through FCC? That can't be it since you don't believe what Jackson says. Wait, weren't you the one who believed that Sprint was going to have a huge media blitz on Friday, based on what Jackson stated? Epic fail from Sprint, right? Interesting. How long does it take a device to pass through the FCC? Could a device get resubmitted to the FCC? How long would that take for that resubmitted device to pass through the FCC? Take all the time you need to answer those questions. Bonus question, if Voice + 4G becomes final, would Sprint need a new FCC Filing?

Bill and Norril: Try company, Sprint, and HTC. Thanks for the love from everyone who shown me it. Nothing encourages you more, when people you don't know embraces you and give you a pat on the e-shoulders lol. This is what fuels Insiders to do what they do.

Edit: Props Nate. You're right, and for that I'm done. I'll be back when Sprint officially announces more info to the public. It's been real forum, and thanks for the love again.

My personal worst experience was at a Sprint store, when I cancelled my Palm Pre. Manager called me a "fuc--r" under his breath as he was walking away. Just happened to be walking past my sweet GF, who completely blew up and chewed his butt, till there was nothing left but raw hamburger.

This is a keeper :D

Did ajac09 just state that we all worship the ground that jackson walks on?? Sounds like someone really got touchy about april 16th.

lols self praise chill my dude lols . i can see he is ticking you off but do what you do and just ignore that . trust me its no end . just replying to anything negative is gasoline to a fire .
