Root Im Making Stock JellyBean Backup

Aright, pretty much do everything in the OP, except the folder on the phone should read EXACTLY like this "extsd card > clockworkmod > backup", there is no S. Also, if you're getting a Status 7 error, then you have to install the stock recovery to get it to install.

MD5 mismatch, the file is no good :/

Open the nandroid.md5 file with a program like notepad++, then delete everything in it and save. Should be able to flash.

OK, I think I read somewhere that you had to do some extra steps to use someone else's android backup there is a work around for the md5 mismatch problem. Sorry I can't direct you to an exact place I'm just recalling some things I've run across in my quest to return to stock.

open nandroid.md5 with a COMPATIBLE program and delete everything then save

Oh wow, I feel stupid. I had spaces in name. If anyone else is having this problem make sure that you don't have spaces in the name of the folder with the backup files. I had mine as "Stock Reverb"

TL;DL MD5 Mismatch = Spaces, Don't use spaces.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT USE SPACES

I learned this lesson today too.

I grabbed that 4.0.4 back up, cleared the MD5 keys, and got updated to Jelly Bean. This is sweet, thanks OP!

You are the man!! I've been looking for a stock backup for weeks. Thanks to you and others here I'm now running jb 4.1.2. Awesome!!

Hey, I got replacement phone (broken charging port) and Im going to make a stock 4.0.4 backup, and a stock 4.1.2 backup for all you people who want/need it! just recover it with CWM and you should be happy :)

*I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES YOU MAY CAUSE*
*DO AT YOUR OWN RISK*

these are backups so you will have to restore them instead of flashing

stock 4.0.4: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5kyUQzVo7YDT05mYmd2VEwyN2s&usp=sharing

stock 4.1.2: laptop broke while uploading...just get the backup of 4.0.4 and update it manually from there, itll download but youll have to install it manually through CWM

please give me feedback! should be recovered with test 8

looks like they came unzipped... when all the files dowload, put them into a single folder then place the folder in extsd/clockworkmod/backups and in CWM go to restore from external sdcard and look for it

looks like the md5 sums are being mismatched, to fix this, open up nandroid.md5 with a compatible program, like notepad++ and delete everything and save, then you can restore this backup

Gotcha covered! JB backup is uploading now...

Trying to restore using the 4.0.4 files getting an error using CWM Recovery, couldn't restore /system

I got the same error. The system.ext4.tar file is 0KB with nothing inside the container. I'm not sure if that's on purpose or not. Actually data.ext4.tar and cache.ext4.tar are empty as well, so maybe it is supposed to be that way. However I still got the error couldn't restore /system when trying to restore, so I hope it's something simple I did wrong. I put all the listed files in a folder called simply 'ics' and tried to restore that.

Cool, well I backed up the stock 4.04 properly (after downloading through Google Drive itself..make sure the file system.ext4.tar.a is around 778MB), forced the OTA update but am still getting an error in CWM upon installation "error in cache/xxxxxxx.update_SPH-M950_MB3_to_MD6.zip (Status 7)". I've tried so many things to get this JB update to work that I'm basically lost now.

I don't know if the problem is that my baseband is at MB3 and it accidentally updated to that without updating to JB because I was missing something called PolarisViewer the very first time I tried updating a couple days ago. So upon the failed upgrade I'm thinking the baseband was updated without the OS updating and now I'm stuck with this error? It's the 4th or 5th time I've received it upon trying different things.

Or maybe I'm missing something really basic that someone could please explain to me. I've searched and read a lot and am just not 'getting' it. Thanks in advance. I'd really love to solve this somehow.

ok some of you are getting the status 7, you have to dl the update, then flash stock recovery, boot into stock recovery, and select "update from cache", then after that, i have a thread on how to get cwm and root access back

Thanks for the reply. I did what you suggested by flashing the stock recovery and applying the downloaded OTA update from the cache but I'm still getting a Status 7 error.

This time it says "assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/SW_configuration.xml" and then a really long string of numbers.

After that in red it says "E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted."

This was additionally after flashing the stock kernel as well. Any ideas?

Edit: And then I just tried installing the update again via the standard way again (was hoping it would just work on a fluke) and got the original Status 7 error:

"E: Error in /cache/xxxxxx.update_SPH-M950_LK2_to_MB3.zip (Status 7)".

Makes me wonder if having the MB3 baseband already is causing the problem. I have no clue though.

No, and i thought i would be able to after all my baseband, build, and csc matched. So i still dont know why kies wont work for me.

Might be that Samsung wants to wait until the JB OTA is fully in the field.
When I was messing with Kies prior to me forcing the JB update it was telling me the MB3 rom was the latest version. After I forced the JB update it was saying phone unsupported.
I think (hope) Kies will show JB support not to long after the full JB roll out.

Even though the stock recovery backup installed without issues and seems to work just fine, I am still getting error 7 and verification failed issues when the 300 or so MB update tries to install. Although I noticed I still have CWM installed even though I haven't 're flashed it yet.

Am I missing something? Do I need to factory reset or something first? Or do I have to get rid of cwm to update to JB?

Edit- I'm seeing now that I need to flash the stock recovery with Odin but where do I find the stock recovery? Someone said it was in the CWM thread but I'm having a time figuring out which one

Edit again: found it

Whoops. Looks like that /system error bricked the phone. (Thank god I have a microSD card and another phone to do it with and I can get into CWM).

I was running Party Time on one of my Reverbs. I nandroided back to my rooted stock backup. Used Odin to get back to stock recovery and then flashed the 0e253abba40a.update_SPH-M950_MB3_to_MD6 update I took from my son's Reverb's cache. No muss no fuss. It was actually pretty easy.

After 're flashing stock recovery, JB successfully downloaded and installed last night, thanks to this backup! Now, on to rooting it!

tyler1998...
Just wanted to pop in again to say thank you for getting that recovery out there for our community. Even though JB didn't successfully install for me...probably because I tried to reboot the update to JB with CWM 6.0.3.0 touch instead of the test 8. It downloaded OK, but when I tried to boot after flash, the install went great; but it asked if I wanted to fix root, and I touched "yes"...and that's when things went south. Screen went black, Samsung white letters, then BLANK, BACKLIT SCREEN! For about an hour, I thought I'd bricked it, but finally got odin to reflash cwm8, and got my previous restore in place (whew!). Then, zjones uploaded that rom, and I flashed it, and it worked :D! But know this; that ICS stock rec. of yours has earned a SACRED SPOT ON MY PC!! So hopefully I'll never, ever wind up in that predicament again!

Peace,
Sox

Hey guys,
Sorry its been a while sinse my last post, but it seems you guys have been working together to to figure put problems.
