Thinking of Jumping Ship

I'm really considering putting my phone up for trade for an HTC One SV (Boost Mobile version). I want 4G LTE, but I really prefer HTC phones. Unless Virgin picks up an HTC 4G LTE phone, I may be setting my sights on another device. There's not much action there, but if I jump in soon enough I can help with some of the initial development work, i.e. S-OFF & recovery support.

Just want to say that if I do go, I'll post in this thread again before I go. You're a great group & I will miss you if I do take the plunge!

The Galaxy S3 was just announced for Virgin and Boost. 4G LTE on the way. In June.

As mentioned above the galaxy S3 is coming to virgin and boost next month. It is one beast of a phone but of course it's still no S4...

If you want pre-paid, you can't have the nice CDMA phones in the US, otherwise, there would be no reason to get a contract with the bigger companies.

Well, I have the Galaxy Note 2 on Ting and the Galaxy S4 just became available.

One of the lowest Ting plans you can get already costs as much as Virgin Mobile's $45 plan. Ting isn't financially the same as VM. From what I can tell, VM is the lowest priced carrier...especially when you're buying $120 top ups on eBay for just $67 :D

Ting does allow roaming however, so that's pretty cool.

This is probably the best news I've heard in awhile. I'll be getting an S3 for sure...unless an HTC power house shows up. If the S2 are selling for nearly $300...what are they going to be asking for the S3? WIil the S2 get a price adjustment soon?

I was just pointing out the prepaid aspect. Based on my usage this month, my bill will be $35. Galaxy note 2 on prepaid with roaming for $35 is awesome. I'm still a fan of VM though.

I feel pretty confident that the EVO LTE will show up as well.

I didn't know Ting was prepaid. When you figure out what your bill will be...it gives a number, and then says "+surcharges". Most prepaid includes the surcharges in their totals.

Your usage is interesting to me. How do you get it so low? 500 minutes, 1000 texts, and 500MB data is $33. 100 minutes, 100 texts, and 1 gig of data is $36.

I also wonder, can you buy top ups, or do you pay Ting directly? I didn't see any for sale on eBay.

What it boils down to is that whatever plan you pick, you pay for up front, but the next month, they are going to bill you based on what you actually used and credit you if your actual usage was in a lower bucket. So while I picked a plan that cost $65, my actual usage is in that $33 bucket that you mentioned. If I went over on any feature (calls for instance) they would charge me the next level up for that individual feature. Because I am on Wifi at home, I have not come anywhere near the 500MB data cap.

It's all very slick and the dashboard you get on their website shows you exactly where you are at any time.

Sorry Remanifest, you're not allowed to upgrade. You will keep the 3vo forever like me and this section will become ours and we will be the only people that post in it as everyone else will have moved on. :)

That is pretty slick. Sprint tried something like this within the past decade iirc.
I'm not sure if they lowered your plan, or if overages were not gouged.

Since VM capped the 4g downloads Im not sure Im in a rush to ever upgrade my phone with VM. I can see why a person would 'jump ships'.

VM advertises 4g and 'unlimited data' but the allowed 2.5gb (4g) is blown away with minimal usage of YouTube, Spotify, Google Music etc. Then you are relegated to 3g, which is awful on VM.

I was tempted to jump to the VM iPhone, just because Ive never had one and the VM price has dropped to a more reasonable price point. But experiencing an iPhone on VM (3g) would be like pedaling an electric bike - no thanks. ;)

I really hope you get the s3 and stay with us!

Just a word of caution: I was thinking of starting to add some balance to my account so that I could purchase the s3 when it comes out. But out of curiosity, I added an iPhone to my account, and it says during checkout that you can't use your balance to purchase the phone. I don't know if that's iPhone specific, but I would wait to add balance to my account to use for purchasing a phone through the VM website. I tried checking out with another phone, and it didn't say that, but I didn't see the option to use my account balance. Maybe you have to have enough in your account to cover the full purchase, not just a part of it?

I won't be selling my phone if I upgrade, so you won't be able to get rid of me. I'm going to retain my shares in this forum. :p

First time I heard about Ting Mobile! Could be a good plan for me. Especially the roaming. I am not sure though, and trying to research, if I can take the V 4G with me (flashed as sprint).
