Help Note 2 Storage space?

iMeliha

Newbie
Basically, when i first brought the phone it was working fine put my sd card in it & everything was working fine, it then kept saying Storage space running out (some system functions may not work) and also memory full and not enough storage space, i then deleted everything on my sd card literally every single thing on it, nothing happened no changes were made, i then deleted every single one of my aps that i downloaded and even when i deleted the aps, nothing was changed, i even tried deleting aps such as aps that came with the phone; chat on, google magazine ect, but then it kept downloading it back onto my phone even though i had disabled everything! and even when all the aps kept downloading back it kept saying 'Error while downloading" and i would get so many notifications from all the aps trying to download back onto my phone as well. and now because iv deleted and wiped everything off my phone, i cant even add contacts back as it keeps saying 'Unfortunately, contacts has stopped" and it wont even let me go onto my camera anymore as it keeps saying memory is full even though there is nothing on the memory as i deleted everything on it. Iv even tried taking out the sd card and using it like that, but again its just the same.

i'd really appreciate the help and if you do take your time to read this, i would be very grateful for some help. Please & thank you very much

it also says 'Message memory full unable to receive message, device memory full'

Hi
Device memory is internal and not your sd card.

Something is filling up the available space (around 10gb) Could be that you have set up an account to sync with a big Dropbox folder or similar? If you can't identify the problem you may have to do a factory reset and start again
Roger

Do you use Google music by any chance? Just an fyi, any music stored on your device from your Google music account is stored in the internal memory and not the sd card.

It says; Storage space running out some system functions may not work.

and i now can't go into my media as it says not enough space delete unnecessary items such as downloaded software, pictures, videos and document s

i have
on my storage space
Total space: 10.36GB

SD card
total space 29.71GB
avaiable 23.78GB

please help i really dont know what to do im all new to everything as well.. it hasnt even been a month since buying this phone and already im having these problems

(1) I'm sorry that you are still having problems because if I recall correctly, the phone had a memory problem about a fortnight ago and a hard reset was suggested then. If you did the HR, did it at least temporarily, appear to improve matters?

(2) Where did you get the amount of memory you quoted? If it was from 'Menu key / Settings / Storage' what is the amount given for 'Available space' of the ‘Device Memory’? Better still, can you post a screen dump of that page? Frankly, I don't know what is the memory required for satisfactory operation but hopefully, the information may stir someone's grey cells somewhere on the globe!

i tried to take a photo on the phone so you can see but it kept saying "device storage is full" right the total space of the device memory is 10.36G Aplications: 403mb, pictures vids 24.56MB, Audio 20.00KB, downloads 180kb, miscellaneous files 19.37 MB. The SD Cards total space - 29.71gb. Available 23.78GB, And the way i go into all of this infomation is settings - storage.. i cant even go onto my aps anymore to download what the top user said its really frustrating me :/

My memory usage in every category is considerably greater than yours and with no problems at all (touches wood - head - quickly). So I’m wondering why is it your phone reckons it has a problem? Just in case something really weird and inexplicable is going on, what is the amount given for the 'Available space' of the ‘Device Memory’ section? On my phone this is shown beneath 'Miscellaneous files’.

i havent got available space after miscellaneous files, after miscellaneous files it goes down to SD card, than total space of the sd card it does say total space at the top though for the device memory which is 10.36GB but im so confused cause i havent even got many aps, i mean iv had this problem before and i deleted all my aps, all my stuff on my sd card and it still had this problem, then i hard reset it and it worked but now iv had this problem again, and i dont want to hard reset it cause now i know this problem will occur again and the hard reset already wiped of everything including my contacts and my media stuff :/

and whitecollar, i cant even go onto my aps anymore to download what you said to download as it says 'Unfortunatly good play store has stopped'

I merged your 2 related post together and deleted a duplicate post, keep your post related to storage to this post. No need to open another thread, cheers, good luck

I'm very sorry iMeliha but since the hard reset did not effect a permanent cure and unless someone comes up with something better, it seems to me that you need to take the phone to a service centre. Presumably, the phone is still under warranty or hopefully, you have some insurance for it.

Whenever I have taken a phone for service they usually require me to demonstrate the problem and to then do a hard reset to clear the data. I suggest you do whatever backup you can in the circumstances even if it is only to export your contacts to either the SIM or SD cards.

If the phone cannot be used to make calls you might be able to make some use of it by starting it in safe mode.

I hope someone can come up with something better than what I have just suggested but either way please keep us informed of the outcome.

OK, here is the issue, if you did a HR and then it worked fine then started using up your memory again, that tells me it is an apps that is building a cache log and eating up your resource space

Do exactly as PC mentioned, boot into safe mode and then try to fine the culprit app doing this damage, it might be easier for you to simply bring it in to the shop and have them check it.

Also post more info on your device, as PC mentioned when checking the device storage, what does it say for the amount of internal memory available, does it actually say ZERO ??. What carrier are you on, are you rooted or not, have you also checked to see if your device has a firmware update ?? report back

Here is an example of the app Whitecollar was taking about

Yes that is great but slow to upload to the cloud, but still good to have. cheers

Well I think for a lot of people it's helpful to be able to move things easily to the sd card without having to find the spot and create the folder. The app does all of that. My Motorola use to do that automatically---move things from internal storage to sd card. I miss that feature.

this is why I wanted a 64GB note 2 but Samsung made it all up and just release poxy 16gb versions

That is not his issue, he has something that is hogging his memory, once he gives us more info we will find it. ;)

First you still did not answer the questions I asked, what Rom are you on, Did you try to restore your Stock Nandroid, I bet you have a bunch of Nandroids and that is what is using your memory, What recovery are you using, and what Rom are you on ????

4.1.2 the rom is im guessing the rom is the version right? how would i restore my stock nandroid? cause if its to do with downloading ap, its not letting me download any, sorry im really all new the this stuff guess you can call me a noob, but i haven't had the phone for to long either so im just trying to understand everything , how would i find all these things you want me to find out ?

Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen and tap 'About device'. Lots of info there so another photo might be best.

Thank you for the photographs of your phone

Do as PC mention and take a picture of the about screen and post it

Your only option here IMO will mostly likely to do a Factory Reset, and this time do not load any apps, make sure when you login to your Gmail account that you tell it not to install the apps backed up in the Google cloud. ??

Did you buy the phone New or Use
?? What carrier are you on ??

A Nandroid would of been once your phone was rooted, you made an immediate back up of your phone for safe keeping, but if you did not root then, there is no worry to look at this, unless you bought the phone uses and it was rooted when you bought it.

Before you do the factory reset, answer the above questions to make sure we did not miss anything first. My guess is when you did a HR at first you might not of done it correctly, or you did and when you signed in to Google, the rogue app installed itself again from the cloud and that is using up your memory, the weird thing here is your memory left is not indicated and with the stuff you have on your phone it is not enough to be using all your memory, so my guess here there is a bigger issue here. You may have the bad Ram chip that many at the beginning got.

Here is another reason why I think you might be rooted without knowing, the error message in the below picture indicates that Gapps stop running, I have only seen that happen on a rooted phone
