Root Error in CWM...

I just looked at the label under my battery and it says that my phone model is a LGMS840V and the manufacture date is 02/2012.... But in my software under about my phone it just says that my phone model is a LG-MS840... WTF?

So what should I be flashing on my phone if it's really the 840v model?

Umm, if actual 840v, flash vv3/4/5

Hey, check this info on my phone (got it from Android system info app). It says I have the LG-MS840..... Compare it with yours buddy and see if something is different (when you get time)

I just restored a backup that I made from ROM Manager Premium and it restored it but cwm will not format or make the /sd-ext ext4 part, check out this log from cwm. Can someone give me a copy of their rom manager backup that has a /sd-ext ext4 in it?

Thanks again guys,
Alex

Not same problem, they can't backup sd-ext, which is a normal issue, you can't seem to format something. What are you trying to format??

Well my phone locked up this morning so I thought I would try the regular LG Mobile update tool and guess which version it downloaded for my phone? The ZVA Firmware!!!! So it looks like I have the regular LG-MS840 and not the V version, they must have made a V version firmware especially for these phones (mine came with a vv4 installed on it 2 weeks ago, yet the phone was made in 02-2012) that we can't get on our own. Looks like I will be updating to the ZV9 after this gets done.

This is what the update tool downloaded.....

MS840ZVA_00.SA_00.P3026.wdh - 1kb

MS840ZVA_00.SA_00.P3026.wdb - 306,321 kb

MS840ZVA_00.bin - 606,848 kb

MS840_WD_1_0_4_0.dll - 192 kb

The automated tool?? O.o that's weird.

Can you PM me your IMEI so I can check what it is???

Or you can enter it here:

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=IMEI_NUMBER_HERE

It will either show MS840 or MS840V with a link to the firmware for your phone.

Does the sticker under the battery say MS840 or MS840V??

What is the difference between the LG-MS840 and the V version? Are we sure we can run V software om these phones? I am going to try CWM again and see if I get that same error. I will post back... :)

V version has updated hardware that allows vLTE (Voice over LTE). This way, when you are speaking with someone, you still have internet while on the phone.
And yea, no one else has been having problems with running V firmware on their MS840 old. Looks like their may be issues with the other way around though.

Since the new phones have new hardware, they shouldn't be rolling back to old firmware because the old firmware wouldn't have the vLTE support on it.

Let me get back to CWM and I will tell you what I was trying to format. I bet it formats now though??? I sent you that number

So I have old hardware, does that mean I can't run the vvx firmwares? I wonder why my phone came with vv4 yet it has old hardware in it, this phone i am using now is a refurb... I can't wait to see what CWM does. I bet I get that same error.

Yea, you can run VV3 if you want root, the stock ROM is unstable so you should flash the VV3 ROM over it.

VV4 is not rootable, neither is VV5. (Yet)

Doesn't the ROM come in with the big .cab files or do I need another file for the ROM?

About to root this ZVA Version I just got from the LGMobile Support Tool... and see what CWM does this time

Yes, that's the stock ROM.

Custom ROMs do not come in a cab/kdz file. They come in zip files.

Edit: 2 minutes left for upload of VV4

Well I just installed ROM Manager and CWM, I then Partitioned my SD Card in CWM, then I Went and -Wipe data/factory reset and I got this error "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p4"

The thing I was trying to format was under mounts and storage, trying to format /sd-ext and when I hit yes format it, I get the same error "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p4", error formatting /sd-ext!

AHHHHHHHH!
