Metro pcs BYOD

I dont know much about the phone but when you go to network list it should show tmobile or att.

I will check when my girlfriend is home, she's working now. I would imagine it's t-mobile because I think it was a t-mobile phone and the service at our house sucks (as does my brothers t-mobile branded phone)

If anyone wants to be a BYOD guinea pig and wants a maybe smokin' deal on a T-Mo S3, PM me. Don't dally about either. ;)

So, something that I thought about and haven't seen anyone else ask/mention yet: When this byod thing starts on he 12th, folk can bring (almost) any unlocked GSM device, right? If that device is HSPA+ only (what everyone calls 4G) and not LTE, that will still work, right? 'Cause the Galaxy Exhibit isn't LTE, but it's comin' to Metro. I assume that means that we will be able to take advantage of all the T-Mo frequencies then; with a Metro SIM card. Right? Wow, imagine the possibilities; especially since I saw somewhere else http://androidforums.com/metro-pcs/725985-metro-pcs-byod.html#post5871549 that we can do byod with our same rate plan that we already have.

Here is the thing, Metro uses 2 different plan types, the normal 3G and the 4G

Now if you already have a 4G plan going to a none LTE phone may put you back to a 3G plan thus losing your current plan, For me thats a no go I have a grandfathered 4g unthrottled plan for $40.

You can if the frequencies match TMobile. An ATT phone will work if you live in an area that's been refarmed by TMo for 1900 (most places have been refarmed). A lot of GSM phones support 1900 but that runs HSPA+21 not +42 so the speeds will be about half of the best HSPA speeds. A friend of mine has a phone on their 1900 and he usually sees speed of 6 to 10mbs so it's quick enough for most tasks.

However, the 3G plan is only the $50 plan, I believe (or at any rate, that's what I was told when my wife and I bought our Motions in February) unless you are grandfathered into an older plan. There would be no reason to have multiple plans since 3G data is unlimited, along with talk and text. According to the link I posted, the same 4G $40, $50, and $60 plans will apply to BYOD (no distinction was made on LTE or HSPA).

You might be correct, as tmo does call the HSPA+ 4G. I still would not go with a nonLTE phone as LTE is the future and will only get better, even metro's :p
Combine metro with tmo's spectrum and data rates should shoot through the roof soon.

There are guys in some newly emerging tmo LTE markets that are seeing over 60mb/s.

What's gonna be fun is to go into the Auth Dealer down the street and do some side by side SpeedTests with my Metro Spirit and the new phones on the T-Mo teat.

Should be interesting.

Your spirit might score less since the Ocala area is not fully developed in metros lte the l9 might score a little higher since I bet hspa tmobile runs better in that area

I don't have any intention of leaving Metro, especially if I maintain as least the signal I have now.

I'm happy with the Spirit, there's really not much about it I'd change except maybe the buttloader lock. ;) It'd be 6 mo to 1 year before I give any serious thought to upgrading to an S3, about the time I can get either the Metro or T-Mo one for not much more than I paid for my Spirit. :p

It'd still be fun playin' with the train set before I actually have to buy it.

Yeah I hear you same here

We should have a thread about the phones that will work with the BYOD program.. We should list them all, so people don't go out buying the wrong phones. I know metro is going to have a program that will see if its compatible but we should have a thread.

Simple, no BlackBerries and then any clean unlocked GSM phone with HSPA on AWS 1700/2100MHz and then in some areas PCS 1900Mz, then LTE with AWS 1700/2100MHz

Was not sure if anybody knew this price my ninja just informed me the Samsung exhibit $129 the lg l9 $149 and a flip phone for the talk and text people at $49 all coming next week hspa only running on tmobile frequencies and at metro prices

nice do you know if they will be 4G or is for sure no 4G?

OoooH!and about the talk and text,do you know if thy will be adding a new plan?

They will be "4G" in that they will be HSPA+ and will probably get good speeds (depending on your location). They will not be 4G LTE though.

well thats not bad, from what ive seen online, tmobile HSPA+ is faster than Metros LTE so even the Galaxy S2 on HSPA+ is a good choice.

just tested my home speed, im sure i'll happy with HSP+ :o

so tmobiles LTE will be AWS 1700/2100MHz?

so to bring a device from a tmo branded device would have to be the above frequencies?
