TMobile LTE in North Jersey

Where I work we have a TMo tower that was refarmed about 8 weeks ago. My coworker just traded his TMo HTC Windows phone for a ATT GS3 and this morning the LTE lit up so I decided to run a speedtest and compare to another coworkers HSPA+

LTE on GS3

HSPA+ on GS2

I would gladly take either one of these speeds all day over the 2mbs-5mbs I've been getting on Metro lately. Hurry up TMetro:D

Galaxy S2?

If your getting those speeds on a S2 that has +21, I would like to see what the speeds are with +42. You should take the GS2 sim out and put it in the GS3 and then do an HSPA test. That way you can see what the +42 speeds are.

att version does not have hspa + in the AWS band so hspa +42 will not work.

but I agree find a tmo phone with the better radio and see how that does.:D

They are certainly fun to watch come in but I THINK anyone who thinks they are going to see these kind of speeds on Metro is going to be sadly mistaken.

There's GOT TO BE a fairly substantial speed difference between Metro and T-Mo when this all settles out to make T-Mo worth the extra $. The idea behind the refarm is to benefit BOTH sides NOT to give everyone no reason to pay extree for T-Mo.

I am actually starting to get pretty concerned that We HERE in Slocala may have Already been refarmed. The speeds in the last month have become more stable and have gone up from 1.5-3.5 to 2.5-4.5 consistent. I am beginning to think this is ALL we are going to see here Without a new Sim card.

Even then, there still has to be a substantial difference in Company speeds when it all shakes out. There are All Kinds of logical bidness reasons for That to be the case and NO logical reasons for it Not to be.

Just my .015

Bruce in Ocala, FL-but Wait! there's more!-worth easily twice what you paid for it

I'll have to reply my thoughts to this in a PM. The rent-a-cops around here seem to get sensitive and put words in my mouth when I bring up their beloved Ghetro PCS and T mobile in the same sentence.

But yes, as always I agree with you Juicy Brucey.

Tmobile or metro same company at the end of the day and then later might just be one.
for me it doesn't matter I'm getting my service no complaints

Would be very stupid for them to do that. Since they don't cap tmobile prepaid and dont cap MVNO's which is what we're competing against. With tmobile they get full roaming on other carriers with full data speeds sometimes, then also a better phone selection limiting the need to go buy a phone elsewhere and do BYOD then with the phones you do get you can finance them with no interest. That's the main difference.

Agreed. All I want is the most for my money. I don't care who it's with. Now that I've got LTE on my N4, some other possibilities have opened up from which I'm looking at different carriers and different options. Personally I'm not going to pay more than I'm currently paying for the same service and same speeds but If I can get up in the 30's with LTE speeds, then I have no problems with paying $60 for a plan that has LTE. What I really want is for ATT to spread out it's AWS so I can switch to their sick coverage and speeds all the while retaining my N4.

Unfortunately At&t would rather get rid of its AWS LTE and keep with its 700mhz lte lol

It's funny because Verizon sold T-Mobile quite a but of AWS LTE, but none in really big markets. I think the plan for Verizon/AT&T is that they're going to hoard as much AWS for major metropolitan areas to help ease congestion, but sell off AWS in smaller markets where they believe congestion isn't/won't be a problem.

Makes sense though, Not a bad plan the 700 should work better in rural areas right?

Not just congestion but distance traveled and penetration? but in high urban areas with lots of subscribers AWS may help. question though are they running aws and 700mhz in those areas or just on or the other?

It's unknown at this point because though they have the spectrum, but they haven't started using it yet. However Verizon devices are starting to come with compatibility for both frequencies, indicating that a roll-out of it must be coming.

700 is indeed better for building penetration, but offers slower speeds than 1700/2100.

If T mobile can get slightly better building penetration then I would be 100% satisfied. I'm 97.7% satisfied at the moment. The whole LTE thing is just icing on the cake and doesn't matter either way as I'm averaging in the 20's with +42. So the LTE would have to be baws for me to drop a $45 plan and jump to a $60 to get the benefits of LTE. That is unless ST gets LTE one day. Oh my that would be sickening.

Thus the benefit of aws for congestion get everyone's data down to them quick freeing up bandwidth for the next guy.
Assuming someone isnt streaming hours worth lol

Not sure if or when ST will open up LTE but I heard Solenvi? how is that spelled:p
Plans to have tmo lte on the $49 unlimited 4gbs at full speed plan.

here is the thing though I am currently on the 2.5gb $60 tmo plan, was on the $30 but 100 mins wouldnt work my dad calls for info he is a over the road trucker, I can handle the 2.5 gb so thats ok. I can also get $60 refill cards for under $50 or right at $50 at least for now so tmo works fine for me. That means the $49 plan after tax would cost me more.

It's probably not going to get better since T-Mobile operates on higher frequencies(1700,1900) while AT&T operates on lower frequencies(850,700). But it does mean we'll have better speeds.

It's like they both use the same amount of energy to transmit its just that with 700 naturally more of that is put into propogation/range than data throughput but the higher the bands go less is range more into data throughput

This is why tmobiles not expanding anymore till the 600MHz auction in mid next year

The only other phones I could use to check is my nephews Galaxy Relay or a coworker's Blackberry Curve. I don't know if either has +42.
