I live here in dallas and i activated my nexus 4 on the byod plan had no problems. Got an s4 yesterday and i got it activated today. Just letting the ppl know that were wondering about activating an s4 on the byod since it shows the s4 isnt supported yet

Here goes more reading worthy posting lol thanks for sharing your experience
long shot since hes been a member for almost 2 years and only posted once, but ill still ask.
Were you on metro prior to the change? if so how do your speeds on the N4,S4 compare to your old speeds?
Did you connect your phone at a Corporate store or at a mom-and-pop store? And was there alot of settings that had to be changes on the actual phone or mostly on the guy over the counter's screen?
What s4 variant are you using? SGH-M919 for Tmo, or for AT&T?

I knew it was too good to be true, what about on tmo pay $99 and add $20 for 24 months does that seem okay?
Yes it actually reasonable, you pay $579 over 2 years, with the option to pay it off early if you want.

Price isn't too bad but still its high.

The only real bad side is you can not do this for prepaid, post paid you have taxes and other regulatory fee's so your bill is $6-15 more per month.

That's how I got my wife her s4 $99 down put a little extra my monthly installments are $15 a month will pay it off sooner then bring it to good old metro gotta love byod :D

And especially the new Uncarrier plans, so you can just pay off the phone 2-6 months into it and go to metro when the byod is zipping along great.

Hopefully they get all the kinks out and roll it out officially nationwide.

One more prepaid option to drop in the hat.

Right what I like the most about this metro tmobile deal is the fact that once I pay off the phone will bring it to metro and enjoy the lte and hspa options :D

Payments is nice. Especially when the phone cost equals that of a house payment.

Some very lucky with his guess poster has said before there would be Some Way the Mothership would ID YOUR new GSM phone as being on THEIR network no matter where you got the phone from (and some more here said no way).

THIS is how they Do THAT. :D

I can't see the $15 as an issue itself.

They ALREADY charge that to activate a phone in store. I think it's important for them to as much as possible KNOW Exactly which/what phone you're putting the new GSM card into and the best way to do that is to Make you bring it into the store. Sorry, I can't fault them for that. (You can get the $ waived sometimes but their Policy is to charge to activate the phone in store.)

I only paid one activation charge, that was when I did not know any better, my initial opening my account, after that I just did it online or at worst called in. he says on the website it would not let him change it either so its forcing everyone to go in.

I do understand what your talking about (keep user error out of the equation) but I can only see them keeping this up for the first 4-8 months then it would get pretty tiresome for everyone.

BYOD is a New Big Deal. Not entirely thought likely for a carrier like Metro.

I think Most (of the actual Low number in total of those going BYOD) will see it as that and not be bothered to have to jump through such a hoop.

[EDIT] and I say again, it's my opinion the reason you bring the phone into the store is so they can put the Mark of the GSM Beast upon IT and IN their system to keep you at Our Prescribed End of the T-Mo feeding trough.

my only concern since it will be a gsm device would this make it limited only to the markets where they are trying out the byod plans? if so its gonna suck. but! if these devices have coverage everywhere where metro and tmobile exist then why cant they work in our areas?

We Tampa boyz can't sell/activate GSM devices until Metro enables our privileges in ASAP but, if you get one from one of the other markets, they will work in our area....
