Root [ROM] Stock76 - Stock77

got bored and made v4.
added holo locker, holo launcher HD, quickpik, Lmt, and changed wallpaper and bootanimation.
updated op.
i recommend doing a data wipe for this version if you have a different launcher and lockscreen. if you dont wanna do a data wipe, you can always uninstall the launcher and lockscreen you dont wanna use.

Instructions
1. MAKE A BACKUP
2. Download rom, place it on your ext sdcard
3. boot into CWM recovery
If youre flashing v2 or 4 over v1, then no data wipe necessary. But is recommended.
4. wipe data/cache
5. flash rom from ext sdcard
6. reboot system, set up your google account
7. If/when set up asks if you want to restore your data, click no. un check the box (at least thats what ive done)
8. for init d support, using a root browser, navigate to system/etc/initd.d and change permissions of folder to rwxrwxrwx
9. restart.

Are these instructions complete? I still need to do another backup and restore to test Recovery on my device though.

Yes those are complete. I would definitely do the wipes.

NOTE: I noticed that v4.zip was updated today. I guess that's a good thing? Latest updates and all that?

I have v4.zip on my external SD Card - /mnt/sdcard [on my device, I have my external SD card set as default location. I hope this is not a factor?]

You don't unzip the zip?

#4. What does this do?
#7. Why not restore data?
#8. What's the status of init.d support now?

Thx, I just want to understand a little more before I try this.

no, dont unzip the zip.
wiping data and cache readies the device to be flashed with a new, fresh rom without any bugs or apps or anything working against each other.
initd support is just there so when you want t oadd some scripts later, you can easily just put them where they need to go..i wouldnt worry about this. just follow instructions as posted.

Wiping data and cache helps keep any conflicts from occurring. #4

#7 by restoring with Google it will automatically start downloading all the apps that you installed. Better to try the ROM first before eating up all that bandwidth,

#8, init.d is there, it just doesn't have all the permissions correct, that's why we change it.

The zip file type is what recovery is looking for. So we don't need to unzip it to flash. Of you want to see what's in the zip you can unzip it on your computer.

As long as the zip is on the external SD card you should not have a problem... Good luck flashing

Nope. It should say install from sdcard complete.
What's the last thing it says before error 7?
Restore your backup, redownload the Rom, put it on your exsdcard..and proceed with the instructions in op

I tried everything and it does not want to install this is what it says Installing stuff shouldn't take long hope you made a backup tho Set_perm: some changes Failed E: Error in/External_SD/ROM/v4.zip (status 7) installation aborted

[A naive question] Flashing a new ROM does not hinder/prevent you from accessing your cellular network [MetroPCS]? :hmmmm2:

you mind taking a picture of your recovery when it gets this error? have no clue why its not working for you.

no..

4. Wipe data/cache
This is Option 4: Wipe Cache Partition [it's this one and this one only]?

5. Flash ROM from ext sdcard
This is Option 2d? U choose your zip and the flashing begins?

[I figured I better be sure about the menu options in recovery - after my experience with the non-existent "UP" button in Recovery. And, thx to "jtintle" for posting the Recovery Menu!]

wipe data factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from external sdcard
(navigate to where you put v4 zip)
highlight v4.zip
press power button
select "yes - install v4.zip"
wait for it to complete
when done, hit ********GO BACK******
reboot now
wait a few minutes..youll see the huawei logo and then the new boot animation
it will cycle thru both again
when it reboots, sign in, but dont let google restore your apps (as stated in op instructions)
let it sit for a few minutes before trying to redownload your apps from play store. also a restart will do good

Yeh, I think I missed the "Uncheck box". I am getting a long "Restoring..." and "Your phone is contacting Google to restore your account. This can take up to 5 minutes" If I had just signed in, it would be much quicker?

no.

I may be OK. My apps from Google Play Store have not been installed yet. In the Google folder, only Gmail, Calendar, Play Store, and Talk are there. OK, or Flash again? All this was going through my data connection, which is very slow at home where I am now [I didn't see any WiFi notification anyway]. Well, Google Chrome is installed too. U included it?

I'll wait for your reply before proceeding...

So, I'm good to go and I don't have to start over? It looks great so far. Is there a stock app that can tell how much memory is being used and free? One of the reasons, that I wanted to try a ROM was the amount of memory that was being used before.

And, should I do any testing before using the Playstore to install my apps?

EDIT: I am getting a Sync Error in Account & Sync. Maybe this is why Playstore is not offering to install my apps? But, I have contacts, etc.

system settings/apps
idk what error its giving you. you can go back to recovery and wipe cache and data/factory reset again and see if that helps since you havent installed any apps yet

I just had to turn Sync OFF and then ON again. I've seen this before. Everything seems OK. I think PlayStore is not offering to install apps because I have not manually launched it yet. But, as I said, is there any testing you would do before going forward? I've already rebooted a few times. It's much faster that before.

you should be good. you have to manually launch play store.

Yes, thx so much! I know [now] why PlayStore did not auto-update my apps. It's because at some point I set "Auto-update apps" to "Do not auto-update apps". So, that means Google was just doing the usual sync [no apps sync] and as I said before I think it was doing all this via my Data Connection here at home where it "sucks". It's ironic. Here at my appt - it's awful. I always use WiFi here.

EDIT: After all the forum has done for me so far, maybe I should go "Premium".

[another naive question] Root Checker Pro verifies root and that busybox is installed. But, I can't find Busybox in apps? Normal? And, would it help to install Busybox Pro?

I am trying to understand LMT. Can someone give an example of "NextApp -> Switch to the next running app"?

Add-ons
stock system and metro apks
Dev-Host - stock apps.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service
I got a "File not found". Has this been added to v4?

I added some improvements including battery percentage and more I am asking for boneface permission to contribute to the development of this ROM. I send you details in a PM.

Battery Percentage - Where did you get this? It looks cool! Is this part of a ROM you are working on independently?

Busybox is installed. The app is just a front end for Busybox. It's there just without the app,I made that mistake on version one I think.

I would hold off on bb pro, until you actually need it.
