Root [Virgin Mobile] samsung dm? i deleted it

figure out the samsung dm ? aka sprint? by the way, is any the sprint files need for the vm? i lost my os, used he full backup. and everthing working. I also had to delete the sprint what ever it was for the preparing network thing would not disappear from the phones bar.
tried many wipes on cache/divik whatever it is to rebuild.. ended up deleting it

That is the app that does the irritating Preparing Network notification.

It manages prl and profile updates.
 
dont delete it. its the prl/profie updater? i tried reinstalling it. but not sure if the update pr;/profile work now.
 
Do you have Victorious installed. I was messing around last night and noticed the self service tool worked fine on stock even with sprintdm.apk removed.

Restored back to stock, left sprintdm.apk and installed Victorious and it wouldn't work. Seems like something else that got removed in Victorious borked the self service tool.
 
I removed most of the Sprint labeled apps in Victorious. You could add them all back to the /system/app folder, set their permissions same as other apps there, then reboot. There are three or four different Sprint related apps that may work together, so it will take some experimentation to determine which ones are necessary for your needs.
 
I'm fine with the Sprint crap removed. We don't roam so I guess prl updates are useless and it's easy enough the restore stock backup if data profile gets screwy and needs refreshing.

yeah but I dnno kwknott is kinda right - comparing coverage maps in the past with my landlord's sprint-affiliate, VM really does not roam very well - it's sprint or it's the highway. (maine, new mexico, hawai'i - I have tried places in all of these and VM does not exactly want you to have service, not even voice. get closer to a sprint tower, or some junk)

can you mess with the prl manually? at least on the optimus v, yes, and it still scares the everlovin' sh*t out of me.

still, I would rather freeze ever' damn package that is not doing something I truly need. or simply have it not be there in the first place.

if there are sprint apps I can safely freeze, I want to know about it.

but more and more srsly thinking about just installing Victorious.

It's just my preference to have all the useless bloat removed. I know my opinion is just that. Others might like the bloat. I actually added a couple apps back that Jerry removed. I just downloaded the full deodexed stock rom he posted and copied over what I wanted. It shouldn't be hard to do this with the Sprint apps.

this is what I absolutely loved about IHO, various iterations of Harmonia, and ultimately bobzhome on the OV. no crap. dear reader, if you want the crap, add it back your ownself.

getting more and more tempted towards Victorious, here

(oh and I may have mentioned this but my vm victory came with a total of 219(!) stock apps(+services). my good friend TiBU-root has frozen approximately half of them, but for why?! samsung, sprint, and vm - damn your scaly hides.)

((ok ok I can't complain too hard, given what VM monthly charges, it makes a sort of sense))
