Official Metro GSM device/network/Tmobile-ish discussion thread

It really just depends on your plan with metro, if you got a good price how much data?

you know tmo prices, they are not bad so either way;)
 
i would stick to metro just cuz of that plan. like shabby was telling me T-Mo plans are slightly more but offer nice perks like for example he was telling me if i were to jump ship to the $60 plan on T-Mo they would offer me two phone upgrades per year.... so thats a new phone every 6 months which isnt a bad idea that got me hooked but i think theres a catch to it i did not understand everything completely also no contract is needed so makes the offer even more hard to believe. Now things i have to consider before considering leaving my spot on metro and my plans. I have two phones on my account one is my mom's phone which i got her on metro on the $25 plan that expired last december 2012 so if i do leave to be on T-mo i dont think i can keep my mom on that plan not sure. also i like to have a good data plan if not unlimited. i tend to tether from time to time when i need to when im not home sitting on my verizon fios internet connection. Its alot to think of and decide. I think the way they planned all this was that both side has their pro and cons.but share the same coverage for now.
 
My breakdown of the JUMP plan is this: you pay $10 a month it includes phone insurance then you get 2 upgrades a year, you pay the installments then you just give them the phone ands it's like you payed it off then you go and pay whatever price they have for the new phone you want and go ahead and start paying installments on that.

So it's not like whatever you pay is credited towards a new phone.
 
Just did a mobiledit scan of my lg spirit 4g from metro and interestingly it informs me that my network type is gsm yet the phone still says cdma...

Its like your renting the phone, I personally do not like that option because in the end you never have something that you can claim is yours.

I was just going to say something similar.

It's a lease. If it's not up to snuff at the time of trade in, then you have to pay extra.

It's kinda like a lease with an option to buy. You don't have to turn the phone in if you don't want to. If you keep it until it's paid off you can sell it or give it away like any other phone. But you can also upgrade after 6 months if you choose. And from what I hear the $10 monthly charge replaces the insurance and extended warranty charges so some people who are paying $12 a month now will actually be saving $2 per month. Me an a friend now pay $105 per month with 2 lines unlimited on Metro (me $50 grandfathered and him $55, no insurance cuz we both have relatively cheap LG Motions) but we're seriously thinking about trying to get 2 more guys onboard for a TMo family plan so we can take advantage of this at a good price point. It would be nice to just be able to turn the phone in when I want a new one rather than do the Ebay/Craigslist/Swappa thing.
 
Oh an to add to that lets say you get the current S4 pay $100 then 20 +10 for 6 months and then decide to get a new phone, you pay $280 already then give them the phone and pay another $100 plus $30 and rinse and repeat. It seems a great strategy for tmo but not for you.
 
well bottom line each has their own preference their own pros and cons. what may be cons for some might be a pro for others and the same vice versa. i gotta agree with optimus the feeling of a phone never being yours does suck i mean that would mean u would be extra careful with rooting and flashing roms and mods since the phone wouldnt be yours 100% i dont know some have the money right there and then for a new phone some dont. i can still sell my gs3 for $300 with original box and charger and brand new otter box defender series. Retails $60 alone. but yea ill still be short out of $30 tax plus $15 activation fee from store unless i get from online so if ya planning to get from store expect to pay $550 + tax = $30 +$15 activation fee total = $595 ........
 
But it does come with insurance in it which normally cost $7.99 on T-Mobile so your really paying $2 since I always put insurance on phones $350 and up
 
you guys keep talking about the jump program like you are forced into it, dont sign up for it and then you can pay your device off over 24 months and then own it and feel like you can root it etc :P

What Shabby said. There's no gun being held to anyone's head to either sign up for the service, or to pull the trigger on an upgrade if you are signed up. You, as the consumer, are still in control of your destiny. People on other carriers would kill for 4 upgrades in a 2 year cycle. Imagine having the S4 now and in January upgrading to the Note 3. Then a few months later the S5 calls to you to buy it, no worries. But if you wish you can stick with the S4 and it just costs you a couple dollars a month over the cost of regular insurance to give you full insurance plus the option of upgrading when you want.
 
I dont think its a forced deal, I just think personally its not for me, but then I dont get insurance either, In 14 years I have only needed insurance once, and it really would not have helped me. I had a motorola flip phone in the pocket of my pants my wife did not know that and washed the pants.

Insurance was $100 deductible the phone was $75.
 
Now that we've hopefully had a few guinea pigs testing BYOD and the newly released s4 three questions.

1) If we go with an official device we definately keep our grandfathered plan? Is that the same for the BYOD program?

2) Is MetroPCS coverage the same as t-mobile prepaid which includes voice roaming or are we restricted to solely native t-mobile coverage?

3) I assume the S4 like the S3 has joyn? As it is independently developed unlike t-mobiles wifi calling will this feature be able to be installed in other phones as well?
 
I brought it up Cuz it's the only tempting offer I saw in other words take away the jump offer and what Do we get???? Exactly for that matter I rather stick to metro.
 
Without the jump program you can still trade your device up for free. The specifics I'm not sure of. I didn't even know it existed until a co worker did it. He did it well within a year and it was straight up, 6 month old Note 2 for Gs4.

Like others said it still depends on what works for the individual.


I'm curious if something like this will roll over to mpcs. Either way I'm glad to see that the Tmob company is actually making moves in favor of the customer.

One possible side benefit from TMo's Jump plan for Metro they mentioned yesterday was that Metro stores would get some of the turned in refurbished TMo phones. If the prices are good we may see some good deals 6 months froms now.

Now that would be interesting. Would definitely like to see metro make improvements for the customer along side tmob.

Headed to the metro store for the byod. possibly today so I should be able to answer all of these questions after. We keep you all posted.:):cool:
 
Ok.

So now that I know that the Mothership is going to screw me out of my $55 plan to latch onto the T-Mo teat, I'm trying to figure out how to screw them first. :D

I think I may have figured a way.

I need an answer from an expert here.

Here's my question.

If you are on T-Mo 4G with Metro and you get throttled, what speed to do you get throttled to, HSPA+?
