Official Metro GSM device/network/Tmobile-ish discussion thread

So I basically have it now. I have the T-Mobile S4. Other than the $10 difference between their unlimited plans do you know of any other pros and cons between them? Ive been putting a list together of the differences I know of.
Between metro and tmobile? Only difference I see is the ability for EIP and theres data roaming and then theres JUMP, whatever you wanna make of it.

TMobile also gives you 500mb of hotspot, Wifi calling, and conditional call forwarding if any of that is important to you. The 500mb of hotspot is pretty cool if you got a tablet and there's no wifi around. The wifi calling is handy if you get poor reception at your house or workplace.

The wifi calling is one of the things I considered. Metro has Joyn, but Im not sure how that works. Never used it.

So for a person that has a current 55 plan with metro and was looking to upgrade to the Galaxy S for day might as well buy the Metro version because they will keep their $55 plan correct? if they switch to the T Mobile galaxy s4 and use the bring your own device Then they would have to switch their Current plan correct?

If you understand that you have about a year and a half until they pull the plug
on CDMA.

Yes, new GSM phone = current plan.

The wifi calling with Joyn works well. But and this is an important but it works the opposite of T-Mobile calling and not in a good way.

With t-mobile wifi calling it favors and you'll barely notice it is on.

With Joyn (at least on MetroPCS) the moment it detects a mobile signal it'll drop you. So when I was visiting a relative who unfortunately had to stay awhile at New York Presbyrterian insider the hospital ICU verizon traveltalk went in and out depending how close to a window you were (with no MetroPCS signal whatsoever or T-Mobile either btw). In order to use Joyn satisfactorily I had to turn off roaming. And it worked pretty damn well. Certainly better than either talkatone or grooveip. And about on par with T-Mobile wifi calling in terms of call quality.

But when I was done making a call and certainly when I was outside the hospital I had to turn the wifi calling capabilities of Joyn off. It is a great thing to have (given how many times I've been in a building with wifi but no decent signal I'd even call it a must if you have a metro phone) but it's implentation needs work.

That's the wrong damn answer. :p

But thanks anyway.

I was of course hoping that "throttled" might mean from FoGee! to HSPA+. I might could live with that and go off of unlimited data.

I am NOW calling for a Faceplant Fatwah on Metro over this!! :smokingsomb:

(That's Pedro, the Mexican mulah ;) )

How is that going?

I have decided I might be in your camp on this, I left a fairly scathing post about this on metro's page.

With my $40 plan I will either get screwed out of $240 per year or I will get huge drop in download ability.
I never use a large amount but I also always use more then the $40 plan gives. I could get by on the $50 plan but really that would also cost me $120 more per year

Kind of slow since I don't think that many people are running to GSM now and being affected by it. :(

I can still be a persistent thorn in their ass about it though. As you might can imagine, I'm REALLY GOOD at that. :p

Here is today's Metro Faceplant Bitchslap;

"Question of the day; Is is REALLY worth the $5 a month to you (prior $55 plan to current $60) to have EVERYONE STAY on CDMA for the full next year and a half instead of switching to GSM like you'd like us to do? Hmm?"

Here's a good question, if anyone knows. Previously, Metro allowed you to finance a phone through a company they use, and you paid it off monthly for 3 months straight, something like that. Does anyone know if with the merger and these new phones they've continued that program?

My local corporate store has a sign saying that phone financing is available.

They had one in store too, through a company called Assurant, or Assurance, I think. Something like that.

Assurance is an Obama Phone-type company.

Asurion is a wireless phone insurance company.

SmartPay is a financing program through BillFloat. GadgetCash is a financing program through Progressive Finance. Of course, there are many independent finance companies who offer payment plans for wireless phones but BillFloat and Progressive are "preferred" by Metro.

Progressive is actually really good caue if you qualify . you can get the phone u want and only pay 10% of the total price u spend at front and if u pay it off within 3 months then there is no interest.
