Root [ROOT] For the LG Spectrum ICS OTA

So this ROOTed my phone FLAWLESSLY. Thank you, thank you thank you. But when i try to get into the Recovery boot i think i ran into the Blue Screen equivalent for the LG. I got the "Long time no see" error when trying to get into the recovery. Does that mean there a like Bootlocker on the phone or something?
You're now at the fastboot menu. If a simple reboot does not fix you and get you out of the screen, then you are looking at having to .cab flash back to stock and re-rooting. You should only be able to get to that screen if you accidentally deleted your boot partition.

Those links are dead too.

Wow, that IS kinda of odd.. I just used that link recently but I just checked it and it does seem to be down.

the AllinOnePackageSpectrum.zip located Here works. I just checked it

That's not the one I used though, so I can't verify it works. When I downloaded it, I used one of the "dead" links. Maybe one of the more intuitive members here will shed some light on it

Hello,

I've just rooted, installed Titanium Backup, and Superuser. This is the first time I've done this.

I had a keyboard that I was formerly able to pair and not use. Now it will no longer pair with the phone. Rather, it gives me the pin but not enough time to type it in. The one or two times it has allowed me the time, it will not accept the input.

I was under the impression that the early inability to connect to BT devices after running this was rectified.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Only on CM based roms. Stock and Stock based roms still have the BT issue if you unlock the boot loader and we never bothered fixing it as they hard coded many commands into the .jar files that weren't worth fixing.

Those links are dead too.

Here's one I just mirrored onto my dev-host account from a previous download.

Dev-Host - SpectrumPwnageTool.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

(Don't thank me. Thank PlayfulGod, it's just a mirror of his file with updated adb files)

The only difference between this one and the original one though is that I updated the ADB in this package with the files needed to connect to 4.2.2 roms via adb (so that you can copy adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll from the bootloader folder somewhere to have a working set of adb files)

If you are trying to root and install CWM, use the all in one from PlayfulGod's thread here (if its for V6) since its the latest CWM - http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...oot-clockworkmod-recovery-lg-spectrum-4g.html

Here is my routine steps:
on PC
- install latest LG drivers
on Phone
- make sure debugging is enabled
- allow unsigned code
- set usb to internet mode as modem
on PC
- extract rooting files to a folder with no space in the path ("c:\SpectrumRoot" vs "c:\Spectrum Root")
- when I connect the phone, make sure it shows up in device manager as an ADB device

if all that checks out, run the bat file.

You might wait a few minutes before doing this just to make sure a dev doesn't step in here and say I'm an idiot for recommending these things (in a nice way of course :P) but I know this works since its what I do... my 2 cents

HELLO REESEBOY! In device manager, my device shows up as ADB interface. Is that the correct way it should display? I am a real NOOB, so thank you in advance for your patience. and what does it mean to - allow unsigned code? What setting on the phone is that? And how do you - install latest LG drivers on Phone? I thought that the drivers were for the Windows environment so the computer can identify the phone as a device.

ALSO, I've read until my eyes have become loose in my skull........ Is this the simplest way to root the LG Spectrum? (4.0.4 V8) What are my chances for success? I was going to use the PWNAGE tool, but decided that it may be better to achieve root first, and see where I CAN go from there.

Hello folks, this root method was found by jcase and I scripted the one click. And yes I have jcases blessing on posting it. ;)

Instructions

  1. Download and unzip
  2. Connect your phone to your PC
  3. Make sure to have the LG USB drivers installed
  4. Make sure to have debugging enabled
  5. Make sure to have USB connectivity set to internet connection
  6. Run the script for your OS (.bat for Windows, .sh for Linux)
  7. Enjoy ;)

Spectrum ICS OTA ROOT

jcase - for finding the exploit!!

GOOD AFTERNOON PLAYFUL (not sure I should call you God, I may be struck by lightning). Please tell me, is this the best and usually the most successful method of achieving root on the LG Spectrum? I read about it in another post, but the directions that member gave were confusing.

Honestly, I've been reading, reading, reading, (my eyes are loose in their sockets). I was going to use the PWNAGE tool, but thought that perhaps I should try just being rooted first, then go from there. I've been reading these posts for weeks, and need direction. Thank you in advance for your patience and help.

This will work for rooting too. Its actually the root that was incorporated into the pwnage tool. So either way, you will be rooting with this root method.

Does this break Bluetooth? I know flashing the custom boot loader from the pownage tool does but does just getting root access bork it?

Sent from my VS920 4G

So what does it take to NOT security error my phone like I did with the 4.0.4 original Spectrum heh..I can't afford to do all that again with with the new one but I'm afraid to do this method because of that...plus my phone is very smooth right now but I need to tether!! Does it replace it with a custom kernel or something? Thanks in advance it's killing me to have a boring stock phone :(

Not sure what you did on the first one to get a security error, but generally rooting won't cause that. Did you freeze apps after rooting?

I can't remember I may have..I had just unboxed it a couple hours prior, set it up..it was working fine, (running Windows 8 I used that root) I hit the y's, and space bars and enters..i confirmed root access and then it rebooted, I restarted one time for whatever reason...then I did a battery pull and that was it.. wouldn't start back up, security error :/ what tool do I use after installing drivers..just that Motochopper.zip file? And if I use the tool to root this phone I'll be able to WiFi tether right? I read about somebody else having the security error problem as well so that's really whats got me concerned primarily besides knowing if it changes the stability factor or if it just basically opens up a gateway but stays exactly the same, you know?

Note: I really don't think that I froze anything tho honestly I always just hide things..then again I may have deleted some apps but I'm really not sure..Neph81 helped me get it back to working condition but I think he said something about either using Windows 8 or not running the tool right..I dunno I think the tool I used was pretty straight forward and almost tough to mess up tho

Motochopper.zip? Thats not anywhere around here. The wrong root method could do it as well.
Get the latest drivers for your phone from LG and then use the LG Spectrum ICS root in the first post of this thread.

Can anyone help? I've followed the instructions to root exactly as it's described in the instructions. I've connected via internet (usb), I've got USB debugging turned on. I've run the bat file as admin. I cannot get my phone to boot into recovery mode to make a back up. It looks like it will start to. I get the droid character with a blue line below, then the phone will go black, vibrate and then start as normal. I installed rootchecker, it's says my phone is rooted. I've tried TWRP Manager, ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox lite, etc... to try and go to boot recovery mode and make a back up and it won't do it. What am I doing wrong or not doing?
I have an LG Spectrum it's 4.0.4 software version VS920V8. Let me know if you need any more info. My ultimate goal is to load Jellybean, so I can have the Google Now. But, if I can't get into boot recovery, it won't happen. Any advice?

Thanks

If all you've done is root, then you don't yet have a custom recovery. Rooting just gives you admin access on the phone. Now that you have that you will need to run the pwnage tool which will replace the boot loader with an unlocked boot loader and install a custom recovery - cwm. The pwnage tool can be found here - http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...20-bootloader-pwnage-tool-lg-spectrum-4g.html

Edit: the unlocked boot loader will break Bluetooth for the stock based ICS ROMs, so after you do that Bluetooth will not work unless you upgrade to cm10.x or anything based on it.
