and we got our hero via tele sales about 2 weeks before best buy gets them and the hero isnt a flagship phone. and funny store after we got it the next day in the mail we went to sprint to change over contacts from the pre and they hadn't even got the training material on the hero

How do people know if/when Sprint tele sales has a phone "available" to sell? I'd hate to call them everyday for a month and a half.

i choose to self-insure small risk losses and insure the catastrophic losses. i save/invest the premiums that would have been paid and let them compound and grow over time. but i understand that not everyone is at the same level of financial sophistication and ability.

OH, that one. The 80x80 size is too small here for that.

Oops! I feel terrible! Of course we need to thank seniormatt and Self Praise!

you have to post it. it reminds me of the "good old days" of all the frsutration waiting for the Pre launch. kind of like now!

one way is watch the forums. I got lucky on the tp2 but on ppcgeeks I saw someone was able to order a hero lol so I called up had it ordered and in her hands 24 hours later.

haha of course.. at least think so

With a phone there are so many things that can happen or go wrong. For that reason, I usually buy the insurance, because it's not so much about the money as it is about the convenience.

Plus it's much easier to write off phone bill (with insurance) than your home insurance.

LOL...Okay, am I the only one that was thinking, "What kind of dumb a$$ would leave a phone on top of his/her freaking car?"

i'm not that impressed that it still rings and works as a phone. who knows how many times (if at all) it got ran over. if it was in 6+ pieces i'd be impressed. if dude was parked it probably fell off right away and hit the ground once and cracked. these phones today are pretty solid state and compact so there's not a whole lot to "break" other than the display.

you all talk too much during the day lol. atleast i got to catch up on reading before work. and if tampa gets 4G this summer i will be very happy.

ok so do we have some consensus on where the EVO will first be available?

1. Sprint Telesales - ?
2. Best Buy Retail - June 6?
3. Sprint Retail - Jun 13?

Ding, ding, ding! Couldn't have said it any better, billsmed! That's exactly why I pay for Sprint insurance. Of course, there may be "cheaper" ways to insure a phone, but MANY people would rather go for convenience over "minor" cost savings. In the case of my phone, the convenience is worth it to me.

It's similar with the insurance when renting a car. For me personally, I normally don't pay the $12/day for the rental car company's insurance. I just go with my own insurance, since I rarely rent a car for more than 5 days. There are a lot of people that prefer using the rental car company's insurance because they feel like it'd be less of a hassle if anything went wrong. Again, just a matter of convenience.

to each his own. i'll take my chances and self-insure these small risks/losses and insure the catastrophic ones.

To be honest I went with State Farm and I did not have any other insurance with them just the phone. There is a risk of raising your premiums but if you use Asurion through the carrier you only can use 2 claims within a 12 month period then they drop you. the phone I claimed was the first and only phone I ever damaged in over 13 years of having a cell phone so to me it was a good deal, $40 for 1 years coverage and $0 deductible.

It is 3 times not 2 times.

They do not report the incident with the rating system.

The only way you would get a report filed is if you double claim.

I deal with a lot of tech. So I have coverage of anything on my person at all times with my insurance company.

They told me that if you file a claim with them they will have to report it to the rating board. If you only file a claim with sprint, they do not and can not report it.

Asurion is not insurance. They are a service and product replacement company. They do not write you a check. They do not report lost, stolen, or damaged claims. They simply repair broken phones and replace them.

It would be against the law for them to file a monetary damage with the reporting agency, if there was no money exchanged.

It is not insurance, it is a replacement program.

But in order to file the claim they have to hand you cash.

Slacker, I see you decided to support the forum today too. Cool

I felt totally compelled to - This is the most enjoyable forum around and the sheer amount of info shared amongst everyone is simply awesome. I feel you do a tremendous job of keeping the topics on point, so you are a big reason for my support donation to the efforts here as well.

I needed to sharpen my knowledge on the Android platform, and the EVO in particular, coming over from many years on WinMo and this forum is exactly what I needed....I sincerely thank everyone for their posts here, as it is making the transition very easy!

FYI: A totally unsubstantiated post on a different forum (Fark) generated this gem of a post:

"I believe the $69.99/mo Everything Data 450 plan will cover 4g use as well. or at least I haven't been told anything different, and the connection card plans are the same price for 3g/4g service. pretty good price for plan that includes unlimited texting and 5GB data use, but I'm wondering about data overages if using the phone as WiFi hotspot, or if they'll do like they did with the connection cards and make 4g data really unlimited

/in the interests of full disclosure, I do work as a Sprint CSR
//please don't kill me now..."

FARK.com: (5229408) The invisible hand biatchslaps AT&T as it adds the fewest new contracts since 2004

No idea if this is true - he may not have the best information at the CSR level, but it's another nugget for us to chew on.

The only thing that has me wondering is that I thought the 4G service from sprint was not limited to the 5Gb/mo cap - but his post seems to imply that it does?

Edit: I'm assuming that if this is true it would also hold true for the family-plan versions as well for those of you looking at multiple EVOs (like my wife and I).

This forum moves way too fast for me to keep up with. But I have a few thoughts to add?

First to the insurance argument. I have not needed insurance in over 10 years. I have more than made up whatever difference there would be either way. I carried if for a few years then dumped it.

I sell Insurance for a Major carrier, Home, Auto, Life, and Health. First of all for auto, we beat Geico at least 50% of the time, and especially if you put home and auto together. If you have crappy credit or claim history, they beat us but if you are pretty responsible we beat them regularly.

We do not insure cell phones per say. And you would be subject your deductible. On auto, its $250 - $1000 for the deductible and it would have to be stolen out of your car for the most part. On home deductibles are usually 1% now. That can mean $2000 ded for a $200,000 home obviously. I just say check with your carrier, maybe some offer it, but it would be a rider and you would need to not have a deductible or it would be the same basic deal.

I cannot speak for other companies, but I know with us it would not be worth claiming a cell phone, unless stolen and you have a low deductible. If you claim on a home policy and you have a $250 deductible you are already wasting probably about $500 a year min on your premiums. Meaning they are surcharging you anyway for that low deductible. You might want to change that and save tons of money, in most cases enough to pay a full price on a phone replacement. A $250 deductible on a home plan = a crappy agent that is robbing you in the first place. Just my two cents.

NOw back to EVO discussions. In my attempt to be a jack of all trades, I am also working on trying to get set up with a nationwide company that would allow me to sell 4g products through clear, and also to sell Direct TV. If all goes according to plan, we would also be able to sell Sprint products!

I cant promise anything, but if I can sell the EVO, and get any sort of leg up, I will be sure to let you all know. My guess is I would be no different than the stores, but hey its worth the training and all just for that possiblilty. And I will be able to get the commision on selling myself an EVO! that equals a discount. We shall see?

Good luck with that :)

right now I am thinking

1. june 6th
2. june 6th
3. june 6th

why? mainly because best buy isnt sprint in all areas. Why cut out a good portion of people from getting your top of the line phone at the same time as others. Best buy is doing pre-sales but they doesnt mean they will get it first. But till we see some kind of best buy fliar leak showing they are getting it before anyone else then right now I think june 6th should be the target date for all doesnt agree with wjackson but it happens and thats what I firmly believe.. didn't happen with the instinct or the pre and they were flagship phones as well. Just going with history. hero wasnt a flagship phone and they got it earlier in stores now sprint still sold it before best buy via tele sales though
