Root [Virgin Mobile] I got a system update today.

I was also able to capture the FULL firmware zip and have since extracted the STOCK recovery.img and tar'd it, tested it and, WORKS with Odin-3.04!!!

ODIN says your tar is invalid...

EDIT: No worries, i'll get my own...
 
Since I'm still on stock rom, just not stock recovery & rooted. Is there a way to get back to stock recovery & unroot without losing all of my data/apps/etc, update, and re-root & custom recovery?

its quite involved... I'm trying to make one that is compatible with my deodexed ROM but its taking quite a while.... Many many many system files get patched in the update....


I updated then backed up and made a ROM from it and extracted all the /system files that were shown to me different in winmerge. and then deleted the sections that patch /system in the update script and left the firmware updates then i added the new updated deodexed system files.... but i'm still having trouble getting it to flash correctly and when i get it to it sometimes freezes me up... Once i get it booting properly then i have to re-edit all my system MODS (e.g. 4-way reboot etc...)

I've been at this since the update downloaded today on my phone... these touchwiz systems are waaaay too BIG they take a long time to copy, a long time to check, and a long time to install.... I miss AOSP :(

But if you're successful (which I'm sure you will be :D) people who are rooted can just flash your build on their phone and they'll be updated while still keeping their data and root status?

yes theoretically... I'm very close now to getting one to boot right...

Okay got it to boot.... now i gotta add back the 1% battery mods and the 4-way reboot and other things... i'll upload what ive got so far in case some people just want the update and don't care about loosing a few system MODs

Got the 1% and systemUI mods back...(using Old systemUI.apk from my ROM, until i get time for the xml/smali edits)

I've got 4-way reboot!! Okay uploading.... Its gonna be two files to flash; one for the firmware and one for the system files.... Its coming...

I'm running complete stock except for CWM. Would it be possible to flash the system update with CWM if I'm not using the deodexed rom?

I know it's possible but I just didn't know if you had a flashable zip of this update for odexed users.

Hopefully I can update without having to wipe but if not I'm sure I'll manage ;)

I'll work on Odexed updates next... I just work on what i am currently running first then i move on to other versions. I'll work on stock odexed as soon as i can. :)

NOTE: Don't flash what i upload unless you are de-odexed and specifically running PunkROM. I'll have odexed updates soon.

"Reboot to System..." huh? I'm using CWM, Im utterly confused (and also very tired)
