BYOD: Free to swap phones anytime?

Would I be able to swap phones with my sim card anytime I'd like with BYOD? Or would I have to go through Metro customer service to swap out my phones? That's always been a pet peeve of mine when I switched to CDMA devices.

From what I've been hearing, you still have to go through customer service.

you cant "hot swap" the IMEI is tied to the sim card, you have to either contact CS or go through a store to switch.

That's inconvenient. Do all gsm carriers do that now?

not as of right now, but because the phone has to be on metro pcs's "whitelist" to make sure they phones eligible for usage, you still have to go through them if you want to swap your sim to another device.

the real question that should be asked could we swap phones via *228/*490 instead of going to a metro "authorized" store to get it swapped and probaly charged $15 ......

from what I was told it cannot be done, something about provisioning over the air or something to that regard, if someone can confirm that would be great.

I did have a customer come in on the CDMA side(CDMA to CDMA) and try to do a device switch, she stated customer service wouldn't allow her to do the swap and she had to go to a authorized dealer or corporate store.

I'm hoping they provide us with a free option of changing phones without the hassle of paying and activation issues

I will try this tom. from my FE3 to my S3 since it's getting repaired tomorrow as we speak..to see if *228 will work..

@mike, I wont be surprised if they don't.

@josh, it would be good to let us know, and is your S3 CDMA or GSM, also which market you're in would help too. thanks

ok so I can say im officially back on the S3 and it's CDMA by the way..i did it through *228 I was eventually transferred to the operator and he set me up..he seemed confused as he asked me for the sim card # which I didn't know but was able to retrieve it in the system..then the tool puts me on the 35 plan...then the idiot asks me if it's a new phone..i went ahead and told him yes just to see what he would say..and what do you know..he asks me if I want to have insurance on the device LMAO!! I declined as I rather repair it personally..but jesus I hope this guy was just new or something...all in all 4g is back on and the phone is on metro's crappy slow 4G towers...CRAP do I missed those tmobiles towers already...

Edit: also im in the FL market...Orlando specifically

Actually you can hulk because they did it for my phone. I did not go to the store. All you need to do is purchase the sim card and have your IMEI ready when they ask for it over the phone. You will be good to go.

Once I have my MetroPCS SIM Card can I change my mind about which phone I use it with?
Once you have received your activated MetroPCS SIM Card, you can put it in any compatible, unlocked GSM phone you choose. However, the phone must accept the type of SIM Card you have activated (Standard, Micro or Nano). Please keep in mind that you will need to see a store to pair the SIM with the device.

Dont know if this is posted already, but according to metropcs you can change the phone card whenever you like, except that you will have to go to a corp store or maybe call to the customer service might be able to help. Well looking at those speeds you guys are posting I said F==k it and just got a nexus 4 tired of the slow 4g data on top off that it goes on and off every second and I dont get to 3g or 4g straight no data, so got annoyed with that.

cool man, I just had alot of customers saying that when they spoke to a warm body on the phone they were refusing and referring them to go to the dealers and corp stores

lol you might have been better off buying an HTC amaze, I heard horrible things via reviews and one of my buddies has one, it's about as good as the Xperia Z(which I had, and it wasn't really that great either), seriously, try to find another android toy, you will for sure have better reception as long as it's not a HTC sensation or something lol

Yea there is a lot of dummies over there at customer service. One lady was asking me what are the 20 numbers for my sim, I told her the numbers but keep in mind the last number is not a number, its a letter. Can you believe this lady on the phone with me for a good 10 min telling me that there is no way a letter is at the end? I had to repeatedly tell her to just put the letter and she finally did...lol

Anyways though yea you can switch gsm phones over the phone. I called, told them I would like to change my family plan to the 4g family plan, they switched it. Then I told them I would like to switch my number to the phone I was currently talking to them with ( which was the Nokia lumia 820) they asked for the IMEI and the sim card number, Bingo everything went well.

nice dude, I think I want to try out that lumia 521, never owned a windows phone, so I'm a little worried about the navigation etc

Oh man if its navigation you're worried about then have no more worries. The navigation is great. Download your state map and use that boy offline. Works great. I thought I would not like windows because it's nothing like the windows mobile but windows phone 8 is not bad at all. Smooth like butter, clean design, and Nokia cams are always nice :D

true true, I was trying to do a comparo between that and the exhibit cuz I'm getting off my s4, so I need a playtoy for the time being, so I was trying to figure who had better reception etc

Oh reception I can't help on that. To be honest my Nokia lumia is not bad but its not great. It's an at&t phone though so maybe metros lumia can have a better reception.

I'll probably get the exhibit cuz it's similar to what I have now, unless I get all squirley and decide to throw caution to the wind

Wait I am talking about the LG Nexus 4 lol not the original nexus or something that phone is amazing.

I'm talking about the LG nexus, that's the one my buddy has and absolutely hates it
I dont know what kind of experience your buddy has but I have the nexus 4 and its fast smooth and never lags, I know heat can be an issue with this phone but that has not even been a big problem for me.:D
