Has anyone ever looked into trying to get the "true" android to work on the motions? Like the real android on the Nexus's etcetera.

building a fork of AOSP is a lot different than building CM. The process is essentially the same... but CM has more support added in for vaious things that AOSP does not. Like CDMA, legacy hw & devices, etc.
It would be easier disabling the added CM features than building a pure aosp rom for a non-nexus.

eh? 2.3 added cdma support into aosp.
but PG is correct, aosp doesnt even get done on the big name supported phones due to how much harder it is.

well if it was ICS for the toro/plus then they did an amazing job with voip on the nexus s 4g on sprint a year earlier
