Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Very, very minor detail but if your looking for a 100% offical spec add NFL Sprint Football Live to the list of Sprint pre-bundled applications.

NFL dumped Sprint for Verizon a few months ago. Sprint now offers their own branded football live app partnered with ESPN.

8gb internal moviNAND storage , 1gb rom, 8gb sd card included (17gb total) is the best guess at this point.

Edit: I guess I should have originally worded it "in addition to" rather than "along with"...

I think it would be cool to have a link after each Item pointing to the source of the info. Just an idea. it would bolster confidence in the "OFFICIAL" versus hoped for specs.

Actually having reread the list those all look pretty official.
All of the bullet points are from the official Sprint spec sheet. The exceptions are those (reported by Self Praise). He's currently testing the phone and I think he is a very reliable source. I hope I'm not getting him in trouble, but these are things he mentioned in this thread. He pretty much put an end to the idea that the EVO would come with anything other than Android 2.1. He said they were able to overcome the issues with 4G and eclair. He also mentioned in the thread that "it looks like we will have voice over 4G by the time the phone is released".

The area below the bullets is open for discussion. Obviously, we don't actually know the release date or cost, so those are speculations. It was pointed out by esone1ll that none of the major news sites have reported the fact that Sprint sent out invitations to their extravaganza on May 12th, so we'll have to keep an eye on that one.

It's microHDMI to HDMI.

I believe a Slingbox app is in development for Android.

Anything you can install and run on a Windows PC, you can use on your phone (wel, almost anything).

Get the Citrix Receiver for Android and install it on your phone, then set up a Virtual Desktop with their XenDesktop software. USe your phone to connect to your virtual desktop and now run the desktop with your phone, including watching streamed content, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

I have made posts about this long ago, but I am replacing my laptop with the Evo, once it comes out. :)

I didn't see 8gb internal storage (or possibly more) mentioned (per Jackson's posts).
There was some discussion about that yesterday, so I left it off. If you look at the next to last bullet, it says: Expandable memory: 8GB microSD card included; supports up to 32GB.

I could be wrong, but I take that to be the Internal memory Jackson is talking about and what Verizon is calling Internal Memory on the Incredible.

Anybody care to comment on this?

Is that new?

No the 8gb micro sd card is removable, and the Incredible has non removable 8gb internal NAND chip in addition to the sd slot. I don't know if the indredible includes an sd card ALSO though...

Sprint Live Football comes pre-bundled with phones my Moment has it so it can't be that new. Just remove the NFL part apparently they've lost the NFL license but the name is correct.

I don't think the phone will have both, that's asking alot. But if I were to chose one or the other I'd definitely want the sd card slot over internal non-upgradable storage.

Bill -
I don't have proof, but I can say with complete certainty that the 65k colors listed for the screen was carried over from the specs of the HD2 since it has the same screen, but that device having 65k colors is a limitation of windows mobile, not the screen itself. There is no inherent limit like that for a tft lcd, and since android supports millions of colors, I'm assuming the spec will be the same as the motorola droid which has a tft lcd, which is 16 million colors. Also, looks like you forgot to include the 8gb internal storage along with the 1gb rom and 8gb sd card. Good work, otherwise!
Since the 65k colors is from the official spec sheet as well as "expandable memory: 8GB microSD card included; supports up to 32GB", I'll leave those as is for now. In a previous post, I asked if the 8GB Internal Memory isn't the same thing since it wasn't listed in the official specs that way.

I seriously doubt it will have both, it would be a first and really unnecessary to have an internal drive when you can easily swap SD cards.

The Incredible has both, which is why Jackson is saying the EVO will be the same.

It (the incredible) has 8gb internal, non removable storage, and an sd card slot in addition to that. I don't know if an actual sd card is included though. Is this really so confusing?

I would expect the EVO to have 8gb internal and an 8gb sd card included in addition, for 16gb total, plus the 1gb rom. My reasoning is that a 16gb card is included with the moto droid, and apple's devices have much more than 8gb included so they need to be competitive.

Where is Jackson when clarification is needed?

Doesn't the Incredible have both? I can't see them doing it for the Incredible and not for the EVO.

Okay, I added Sprint Football Live to the specs. Other than that, noting can be substantiated as far as I know. Especially any increase in RAM/ROM or Internal Memory of any kind.

How would it be a first? Doesn't the Incredible sport onboard ROM, 8 gigs of Flash based storage, and also include a microsd slot?

On the Verizon spec sheet that was posted, it said that the card was not included, but did have a slot for expandable memory via microSD.

I seriously can't imagine that the EVO won't have the same (if not more).

It doesn't have 8GB of onboard ROM, first let me say ROM is not internal storage therefore it shouldn't be confused with internal storage space. Up to now there are 0 devices with 8GB of ROM which would be an absolute waste, it does however have 8GB of internal storage space.

The Incredible lacks an internal SD card slot reader which is replaced by internal storage.

:confused::confused: 2nd to last line on the left column?

I did just look again, Bill, and I see that the official specs published by sprint show 65k colors, so I can't really argue with that. But if it is true (we'll have to wait and see, I think it's a typo) the EVO will have the crappiest looking screen on any android device when doing anything relating to photos or video. 65k might sound like a lot, but try switching your video card to that many colors and you'll be shocked at the banding and lines in color gradients you see everywhere. Considering that they're pushing the multimedia capabilities of this phone so much, I'd be shocked if the listed spec was true in the end. We'll see.

Does that include the ESPN app they are suppose to get?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, I have read this entire thread but don't think I saw this. Do we know yet if the screen will be scratch resistant like the HD2? This video is pretty amazing:

YouTube - HTC TOUCH HD2 testing glass screen for scratch resistance

I ask because if it has the same protection as the hd2, I won't have to get a screen protector, which I have had bad luck with in the past. They usually decrease the touch screen ability, and after a month or two of going in and out of the pocket, the edges usually start to curl and get dust under it.
