Help What 64 GB microSD for Note 3?

I just realised I need to order a 64 Gb microSD card for my new phone. So advice please on what class of card? I'm guessing I don't need to go very high speed - as I do for my cameras.

Purchased a SanDisk a year ago and my Samsung Note II began crashing recently. Could not figure it out. Thought it was a rogue app. Turned out the card was unmounting itself.

My friends, who bought the same card with my recommendation, also had unmounting problems.

Then, when I finally read more Amazon reviews, I saw a pattern.

There is actually debate going on as to whether the Samsung motherboard in these phones supports Class 10 microSD cards.

I had the exact same issue.
 
Did you buy it from the same seller?

Was your phone crashing, too?

So, here is the big question....

Was this the fault of the particular seller, who some of the reviews on Amazon are citing as selling fraudulent cards?

Or, if this is a genuine SanDisk card, is it a problem with the Class 10 cards and Samsung compatibility?

BTW, I should mention, after a year of purchase, SanDisk is allowing me to exchange this card with them. I am wondering if I should ask for a lower class card or not in exchange if that is indeed the problem.
 
Thanks for the warnings guys. I use Lexar 1000x CF cards on my cameras but Lexar or SanDisk seems like overkill for a phone.

Is there a reason for people going up to Class 10?
 
Probably the reason the majority of those of us that have a 64GB card(especially this one) :

Capacity & price. Most of us caught this on sale @ AMAZON/e-Bay/BEST BUY/RADIO SHACK for under $50.The speed is just a BTW, although some here no doubt appreciate the added speed vs a lower class card.

If you are now gun-shy about getting this particular card, SAMSUNG sells their own version, which I would assume would be compatible (more so?) than the SANDISK.

If something goes wrong, w/either the phone or card, at least you've cornered SAMSUNG & given them no room to play the finger-pointing game.

Advice duly taken. Though I have to say I would be surprised if the card was actually manufactured by Samsung. But point taken anyway. (There is going to be less grief with them if this card causes problems.) Cost me GBP 43.98 which is about USD $69.83 with tax.

I'm glad I asked.

So you have the samsung pro card? Might you post some benchmark results on the read/write speeds with the N3? I was using "SD Tools" from Play, and run some tests on the Sandisk Ultra 64GB class 10/UHS-1. Was getting just under 10MB/s write, and ~23MB/s read. Would love to see comparable numbers from the Samsung Pro.

may be a silly question but are there any restrictions on what you can and cannot put on the SD card? I was reading somewhere that Apps cannot be put on the card. What about videos/photos that are captured from the phone itself?

I have exactly the same card in my note 3 here is my result and although basically the same as yours give or take, it is slightly slower, probably due to it being 65% full.

Exactly the card I ordered and installed.

As a test of transfer speed, I put Star Wars Blu-ray movie on it. That's a full 1920-1080 resolution movie, in luscious stereo, to see if it would play without any pauses or hiccups.

My experience? Perfect playback. And if it'll play THAT back, I'm confident that any media you throw at it will have no problem. Now I can move all 6 Star Wars movies from internal memory to the card with no concerns at all, freeing up vital internal storage :)
 
I've used sandisk's for years with no issues. There could be knockoffs that are out there I guess. I wouldn't recommend a 64GB in case it does fail (they all can) if you have two 32gb at least your not out as much if they do.
 
I have not used it much yet, But These are current results with a SANDISK Ultra .

By adding the 64 GB card are you getting a total of 96 GB's of storage space now... 32 GB internal and 64 GB on the card?

I already plugged a USB stick in yesterday and it wasn't recognised at all. I'm guessing that's because all my sticks have been used only on Macs. So how do I get a USB stick formatted so the phone will love it - or even pass the time of day with it?

Right well your little cable worked just fine. I don't actually have a USB stick big enough at the moment - like over 96 Gb - but the cable means my ex-Mac USB sticks mount un-reformatted just fine, thanks.

I'd quite like to find a version of this OTG cable with the right Micro B USB on it but no matter. Also once I can dig out an actual ♂ to ♂ full-size USB cable somewhere I'll be intrigued how it behaves actually plugged into a Mac USB port. And also I'll see what it does plugged into a card reader with a camera card in it.

I'm guessing there's a correct way to unmount the USB stick attached to the phone this way other than just pulling it out.

Edit: OK. Found the un-mounting menu choice
