Help Weird WIFI issue...

Murf1

Android Enthusiast
I have the Virgin Mobile version of the phone.

At home sometimes I turn on the WIFI and it will connect with 1 bar (the dot at the bottom) and it works for about 5 seconds then disconnects. When I try to reconnect it will say "failed to connect" even if I am setting right next to the router and it shows "Excellent" strength on the screen where I tell it to connect.

I rebooted the router and it did not help. I reboot my phone and it connects fine with full bars. I can connect fine and then turn off WIFI on phone and try to connect again 5 hours or more later and get this issue. I reboot the phone and it fixes the issue. Also try the "Clear RAM" button that doesn't fix it. It gets to be a hassle to reboot the phone all the time.

Don't know if it matters, but I always turn on WIFI, use it, and turn it off when I'm done using it for awhile (on the phone).

Anyone know what would cause this or an app that may reset it without having to reboot the phone?

Thanks.

Try leaving it on if in at your home WiFi area, it will barely use any juice.

Or.
WiFi fixer in the play store, or fxr WiFi fix in the play store.

I was wonder if it uses much juice when in lock screen and just laying on the desk. Because sometimes after unlocking it will pop-up the wifi in the top bar just like I just turned turned it on (if I had forgotten to turn it off). So is wifi usage more intelligent in Jelly Bean than in Gingerbread - like it maybe just turns itself on and off to do quick checks for notifications etc. ?

If so, then I might try leaving it on when home.

thanks

The connections optimizer will turn WiFi on and off by itself. You can turn it off in the WiFi options.

In addition to the above mentioned Connections Optimizer(shudder...), there is a setting in the wifi advanced section to avoid bad WiFi connections. If that is on, it will be very sensitive to poor connections and disconnect to failback to 4g or 3g.

BTW, the connections optimizer is awful. It uses more battery than it saves, as this phone sips power with wifi on while sleeping. I think the reason it's on phones is to offload some data from the cell network. I don't know about everyone else, but I prefer my own private 4g connection(which is what you pay for monthly), over a public wifi connection!

I can't get 4G in my area. I always use WIFI at home. Also, I cannot find the "Connection Optimizer". Is it only on some phones? I'm on Virgin Mobile. Where exactly is it located?

thanks

Settings / WiFi and networks 'more' / mobile networks / connection optimizer. When the popup comes up, hit more info, then uncheck the box.

Great, thanks! I found it and unchecked it. I take it you agree that with Entropic that the Connection Optimizer is trash and shouldn't be used. It will be interesting to see if I can connect to my work guest WIFI now that I have it turned off.
