Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

LTE Nexus 7 sales seem to be suspended for some reason. Luckily I grabbed mine before it happened. It's too bad people are having such issues activating on Verizon with new SIMs. Those using already activated ones are getting on no problem though.

Also I am kind of leaning towards the LG G2 right now, but I do want to get hands on a Note 3 just to see the size difference.

The reviews on the G2 are outstanding, just sucks I need to buy it off contract. I wonder where the cheapest place to do that is.

OR I can suck it up and find a way to only use 2GB data monthly.

There's always Verizon Edge Max that will allow you to have 6GB of data.

Stigy, I can tell you the G2 is awesome! First phone I've had where I don't want another launcher on it.

Cheapest place at the moment is probably Verizon at $599. That's what I had to do. I could never do 2 GB or even 6 GB per month. I'm already at 12 GB and it's 3 days into my cycle.

However, I'm thinking about unrooting it, returning it to Verizon, paying an extra $100 to buy it at Best Buy for $699, rooting it, enjoy it, then when the Note 3 comes out, if it blows me away, unroot G2, return it, get my $699 back, go to Verizon, and buy the Note 3.

My wife says it's borderline money laundering, but I do it all the time. I've got "elite" status at Best Buy Reward Zone, so I have 45 days to return.

But didn't everyone already decide that Verizon Edge is a huge ripoff?

Verizon's Edge phone upgrade plan is the same bad ripoff as AT&T Next | The Verge

True, I don't think it's a great deal because the postpaid plans already have subsidy repayment build into it. But since you'd be buying full retail anyways, the only difference is paying up front vs over time. If you actually pay off the device, it's a wash (other than losing unlimited). If you trade it in to upgrade early, then it's a rip off. It's also a ripoff if you use more than 6GB of data regularly, or if you're like Chief and have unlimited for 10 dollars.

Yeah every review I read seems to indicate the same.

I am going to wait for the Note 3 to come out and then make a decision from there. I have my Dad's old Bionic to hold me over until the end of month and hopefully my saved Android ad revenue can just let me buy the phone outright.

I really don't want to upgrade and lose unlimited data or go to Verizon Edge due to it being a huge ripoff from everything I have read.

Hey Stig, did you complete transfer to the new admob? If so, how do you get it to bypass the old page to go directly to the new home screen without clicking that link that says they've completed your data transfer?

Yeah, T-Mobile's Jump actually comes out pretty good compared to the rest because they don't have subsidy repayment built into their plans like Verizon and AT&T do. Word on the street is that Sprint is going to release a similar plan to T-Mobile on iPhone launch day.

Yeah I am completely on the new Admob - use this link:

https://apps.admob.com/#home

Oh I can get to it no problem, it's just annoying when I go to admob.com and login and it takes me to the old page eventhough I completed the transfer a month or so ago. Seems like they would fix that by now to where you login and it goes to the new page automatically. Oh well.

Since school has started back in full swing pretty much the whole country now, I've noticed HUGE growth. In the past 30 days I've gained 1,300+ active installs. Still seeing over a 70% retention rate according to active installs versus total downloads and I've surpassed 10k downloads :) Seeing a large increase in ad revenue too. Not bad for a simple little app :D

Hey everyone, long time no see :)

I'm liking those pics of the Nexus 5, hoping we get some more news soon. My GNex has certainly seen better days, thinking it's time to upgrade soon. Like Han a couple pages ago, I've been out of the game. What are the big names now -- just the G2, Moto X, and SGS4? What are people leaning towards to make the first change away from our precious Nexus?
I think most of us are going to one of the following.

Samsung SGS4
Note3
LG G2 (That's what I just did)
HTC One
Moto X

or......(drumroll)

Nexus 5

From all appearances, the Nexus 5 won't be offered on Verizon. I still burn a candle for it, but probably not going to happen. Especially if the suspected FCC report is indeed the Nexus 5. It's entirely possible that there may be a different Verizon based model number for the Nexus 5 (just like our Galaxy Nexus), but I doubt it.

If it wasn't for unlimited data, I'd probably jump ship. But not doing that now. The G2 is basically a Nexus 5 anyway, although I think in final form the G2 will have better overall hardware specs. Google may cheap out in some areas to keep costs down, which is admirable, but I think they should offer a true flagship, not a watered down version.

The GNex had a good run, and it was my favorite phone for a while, but the G2 is pretty frickn sweet. Best screen, best camera, best battery life I've ever seen on a phone. I've been unplugged for 4 hours and still at 100% battery. It's nice that at the end of the day you still have 75% and estimated time remaining is 70hrs! :D Obviously that's light use, but this phone will last. A super bright screen that you can actually see outside, plus it is 5.2" in a form factor that's not bigger than the SGS4 (or GNex for that matter). Note 3 will have a bigger screen, but in a package that's a lot bigger as well.

Only complaint some have are the back buttons. Honestly, I don't even use them. I thought the knock-knock turn on/off feature was stupid, but in reality it's great. Just a quick double tap and the phone turns on.

Well, it'll still be nice to pop into the ol' Watering Hole from time to time to see what - if anything - is new :)

I have 22 days to go until the Note 3 SHOULD be in hand... and I can hardly wait! I'll have to e-mail BB and see what she's up to, and what phone she's planning on getting...

Well, that was an assumption... at some point the Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole would be occupied by people with no Galaxy Nexus :p

Of course we can all hang out here and congregate... it's not like we're going to create a bunch of new phone watering holes NO NO NO!

:)

EDIT: BTW ParanoidAndroid 3.99.1-RC1 is out on XDA for Gnex ;)
