Official Speed Test and WiMax Deployment Thread

Interesting...I actually live between Austin and San Marcos...but spend much of my time in Austin...work etc. I thought San Antonio was a done deal already....but the big surprise for me is San Marcos. Not exactly a large town....but a college town none the less. So....it might be super popular there with good marketing to the students. Depending on the range...which is a pretty dry subject....I might get a signal at my home...something I hadn't planned on having....so if it's a 20 mile range I will have WiMax at home. Thank you for the information! :D

PS...don't get fired...if there truly is a danger you might want to stop while your ahead. No one would want to see this happen!

Wimax is going to be focused to Government, Business, Hospitals,Colleges, Big Business. Consumers are secondary for wimax

This is the one I really want to know about since it's right smack in the middle between Manhattan and New Jersey but I'm not sure if it's working on 4G yet.

TowerCo

I can not give specific tower locations.

I wish I could but I can't.. I would be lying to you. I can ask and if they can give it to me, it is available but I do not have that option right now.

Atl is lit but the towers are provisioned bad.. They are working on fixing them..

Some of the towers were installed bad and additional locations are being installed By Christmas all good.. Rumor of course if you can hang that long.

Trying to understand the tower tech. What does it mean when provisioned bad? Not enough spectrum?

Quick note. Wimax was deployed in a few areas and they realized that the towers were installed poorly, so a few areas are being reworked..

Those areas are not on the grid but once they are reworked will be added..

Part of why I think Sprint is under promising and will be over delivering..

Rumored of course

I see

Dallas
San Marcos
San Antonio
Corpus Chrispi
Mc allen
Dallas
Monterrey NM

Any one of these close by?

These are rumored of course

No unfortunately. Monterrey is in MEXICO Mexico..lol. Not aware of one in NM but could be wrong.

I am also not a technician or Manger.. Something kind of in between. So I can only give semi vague answers answers and will have to get more tech info if needed..

Check out this link posted awhile back it shows the towers in TEXAS. TowerCo

Buda?

Close!...actually live in Kyle :)

I checked out the TowerCo link you provided...but I really don't understand how to know what the towers are being used for etc....as some others have said. But it's interesting. The tower in Buda is probably within 10 miles of my home. Thanks!

This great information. And I. Appreciate it. It makes sense as to why the evo hasn't been released. It's the network.

But why are they saying atlanta is a 4g city?

There is one in Monterrey NL.. I am un familiar in a lot of these areas.

If you give me more info or locations I can try to give you more rumored information

The towers have wimax equipment on them and r owned by towerco

Cool! That explains a town the size of San Marcos having WiMax before some other places...they are college town...Texas State.

This helps me to understand how Austin might have been a priority..besides having a decent tech sector... multiple universities...etc. The picture for nationwide roll out looks awesome. Thanks again!

I'm actually a little closer to Austin/San Marcos/San Antonio than Dallas. But it's still a three hour drive northwest from there. I think it may be years if it ever gets here though. Funny thing is Sprint was the first major carrier here years ago. The others didn't arrive til years later. Yet was the last to offer 3G. We got evdo rev 0 in San Angelo in late January 2010 yikes. So I haven't considered WiMax at all in my reasoning for wanting this phone :-/ I bet it will be obsolete before 4G rolls out around here.

Well...very cool! So if someone can verify their range...I will know with much more certainty if I will have coverage at home. It's all gravy baby!

Wow....too bad the guys in the Incredible forum wouldn't listen when I went back about a month ago to try to get them open minded enough to take a look at the EVO 4G. Oh well....we'll be glad we waited...I'm more stoked by the minute. This is a VERY difficult wait. Gonna break for dinner. Great group here....thanks!

But why are they saying atlanta is a 4g city?

atlanta is lit up but they need to make some repairs and add some towers. Next to Texas I think ATL will be the the second will covered area.
