Official Speed Test and WiMax Deployment Thread

NJ in da house

I'm wondering how close this is to Neptune, NJ and if there are any more in this area? Anything information from Monmouth County or just NJ in general would be great, Eieio!

And as far as the TowerCo wimax towers goes, I was under the impression you should NOT assume their towers means 4G from sprint.

I haven't seen anything from that TowerCo to suggest that their towers will be used for Sprint 4G coverage. Yea, they are partnered with sprint in some capactiy, but people are drawing their own conclusions about it. I think people are getting excited over nothing.
I'm jus sayin it would make sense for clear/sprint to lease the tower, cuz towerco isn't setting wimax up for nothing

I doubt sprint would be interested in TowerCo's actual WiMax set up - they'd probably want their own equipment to use and not somebody elses. But that's just a guess. Honestly the TowerCo thing probably amounts to nothing. The only thing I could see is if Sprint is going to rollout to an entire market they may use one of their towers in the rollout; but for anybody who thinks that there's a TowerCo tower in the middle of nowhere by me so that means 4G coverage, you'll be sadly mistaken.

Haha 62 down and 1 up?

A little unbalanced, no?

I have Road Runner they've been like this for years, yeah we can download movies in a few minutes sometimes less but our upload is pretty bad. They believe people don't upload as much as they download, this used to be true but with social networking and YouTube alot has changed. They also used to give us a pretty darn good free usenet service which they canceled a few years back.

Yeah, I am not happy about all the changes TWC made with Road Runner. The upload really sucks.

I have a hard time believing the towerco info. There are some places in the middle of nowhere listed.

Is there a way to identify wimax by the way it looks? There are a few towerco locations within a mile or so of my house, I wouldnt mind snapping some photos and having you guys take a look.

Eieio, I know it is late and i am now just catching up, can I have you look up the "DMV", DC, MD, VA. And I live in woodbridge but travel all around to various locations for work. Thanks in advance, and EVO Rocks!!!!!!

Yeah but it's cool though. It would be awesome if wimax will do that.

You will have free wimax service where ever you go soon as a Time Warner cable customer. Did you get that e-mail a while back about them offering free local internet for your laptop as long as your a customer? They're rolling that out in NY customers will be able to login with their primary e-mail address and password. TW/Comcast is one of cable companies that jumped onboard with Clear.

Hmmm... Nope I did not. I don't use the rr.com address they give you. But thanks I will have to look into that..

Wow, excellent tool....so....I see that I am not in the 4G area at home. Very close...but not there. It's okay though...since I expect it to work almost everywhere else that I go during the day....and my work location is firmly in 4G territory. Thank you for the link!

4 cities lit up out there

Modesto
San Jose
Palo Alto
San Fran

rumored of course
Oh noes! I wonder if Berkeley is too far away from SF towers? It would be a shame for a University town to miss out on 4G. An AT&T line tech told me the city wouldn't let them run fiber optic through the city, so I can't get Uverse here as it is.

Just logged on but I see lots of speed tests. Here's one that may be useful to the Evotees here: Sprint Wimax in Baltimore.

Tried a few servers to get an idea of what you can expect. Nothing amazing compared to Fios or fast cable but when I tether my 3G phone and run this I get like 800kb down and maybe 128kb up. Quite a good jump and on par with decent DSL or the low end of cable. Good start for a new service if you ask me.

Considering that is OTA that is awesome. Sprints unlimited package atm has unlimited downloads for now. that is cool.
