Root [ROM] DroidSmith_Force - Beta

I asked donjuro to flash matrix kernel to the stock rom to help me isolate his problem. The zip for Matrix Kernel is just the OC kernel and the modules for the kernel, so on the surface nothing should look any different.

Crap, forgot to flash the kernel to stock ROM, however I did do a wipe of cache, dalvik, data and system and installed dsf 0.5 and had the same results. Thought it was the SD card because the first boot froze at mounting the SD card, so I took it out and removed the battery and booted it again, but froze again.

Do you have another SD card you can install from? If not you can always format the SD card and then try again

Ondemand2 was super laggy for me and it was draining the hell out of my battery. Set it to conservative and it's been super smooth. Still draining the battery but not as bad.

How would I go about being able to change the boot ani? I like this one, but I know of a few others I'd like instead.

Navigate to system/media replace the boot animation with the on of your choice. Name it bootanimation_boost.zip make sure the permissions are the same as the one you are replacing.

I've got no ******* clue how to change permissions. LOL. Got a little guide or tutorial, or a brief explanation on how to do that? :P

to change perms its the applet "chmod"
normally you would set it to "chmod 644 /system/<patht to file>"
but if in doubt, set it to 755 just in case
first though, you have to remount system as rw so that you can write the perms to the file
"mount -o remount,rw /system /system"

The system partition is set to rw by default so no need to remount. Place the boot ani you want on your sdcard. Open terminal emulator and run the following commands.

mv "name of your boot animation" bootanmination_boost.zip

cp bootanimation_boost.zip /system/media/

chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation_boost.zip

If the boot animation you selected is formated correctly, and is the correct resolution that will do it. If the boot animation is not the correct format the device could hang, or boot without the animation.

This is a real brief description of how to replace the boot animation. Remember google search is your friend

I am unable to update to 0.5

After flashing and boot animation, phone boot loops or freezes and battery has to be pulled.

Tried factory resetting, clearing cache, reverting to plain stock then updating. Nothing seems to work.

Could it be because I am coming from somewhere around 0.3 (not exactly sure and settings doesn't say) of Droidsmith?

Did you do a factory/cache/dalvik wipe before flashing to 0.5?

Edit: sometimes from what I've gathered you can get away with flashing over updates, but it's best to recommend wiping first. That's what Jim told me when I asked. Usually DS-DS doesn't need a wipe, but just in case wouldn't hurt.

Yeah I tried that as well. Also going to add that I downloaded it again just to make sure it wasn't a corrupt download. That didn't make any difference. The only thing left that I can think of is to grab a different SD Card.

This is very bizarre..

I flashed it from a formatted sdcard. It boots up but I cant do anything on the home screen. As in, when on the home screen, I just have a black screen. If I press the keys I can hear the audible response. So, I hit menu and guessed where the system settings button is since I can't see anything. It opens up settings and I can scroll through it and change settings. However, if I press home, it freezes on the settings menu. I can't scroll on it. My guess is, it can't show the home screen and all so it just stays on settings even though it isnt actually on settings. At that point, I just hit menu again and guess where the system settings options is and then I can scroll through it again.

Any ideas as to what I could do with this limited usage?

EDIT: When I touch the screen, it flashes like crazy. Also, I managed to somehow see the Home screen but not exactly usable. It flashes the message System UI has stopped working over and over.

It looks like some devices aren't liking the kernel mods. For those having issues I would recommend returning to stock. I'm working on the kernel now, and hope to have something that works for everyone soon.

Hey golono and donjuro. If you go into cmw will it let you wipe cache, or does the system hang? I think I might have the issue tracked down

So I finally ran into an issue. I found myself not being able to wipe cache or dalvik cache. My latest Build of DSF would not install and the system would hang at the boot image. The issue was that my recovery had somehow become corrupted. I was able to fix the problem, and I hope this and the latest build of DSF helps to get those who had issues up and running.

First I flashed the stock nandroid posted by Golono found here:

http://androidforums.com/force-4g-lte-all-things-root/742117-working-stock-nandroid-backup.html

Second I restored the stock recovery provided by Sonicbluemustang found here:

http://androidforums.com/force-4g-lte-all-things-root/743724-recovery-stock-recovery.html

Third I installed CWM provided by 1mouse3 found here

http://androidforums.com/force-4g-lte-all-things-root/749083-recovery-unofficial-cwm-v6-0-3-5-a.html

And lastly I installed DroidSmith 0.6 Beta which can be found in the op of this thread.

If this helped you please be sure to thank the individuals mentioned above.

I've had to do it before. I was having issues after I would flash a Rom. I figured doing a factory reset in the stock recovery would wipe the phone like it was supposed to. Glad you posted that jimsmith, i never thought to lol. It worked for me once before.

I've had issues wiping/restoring cache for a long time. I think I was able to do it once when I first got CWM recovery. Since then, it always freezes when wiping or restoring cache and i have to pull the battery. I always assumed it was a bug with the recovery. Will try your method tomorrow, thank you for the help.
