iPhones??

Thanks to the EU four years ago, we all mostly use standard charging connectors and mostly chargers as well.

Hats off to the EU - keep accessories in play and out of the landfill.

Unless they malfunction, cables and chargers still work great after 5 - 10 years. Throwing them away is a waste, so standard connections are a definite plus.

Ok so all I've ever owned has been android phones and wonder what is all the talk of iphones- people going crazy over them! I talked to a guy that said he'd never own another android because the ipone is so smooth but didn't elaborate.

I do know that the i5 is now 4G but that's all. I've got my flame suit on so if there are any non bias opinions, I would love to hear them!:D

If folks was going so crazy for the iphones and the supposedly 9 mil sold, why the drastic price drop.?

I love it, too, but wish it had a better battery. The iPad has it beat by four or more hours per-charge. For the $499 price I expected the 10+ hours the same-priced iPad 3 has. Was disappointed there. Six-seven if you're lucky.

Oh, that's awful. But it is supporting that screen resolution. I mean its a beautiful display. Best ever put into a tablet.

Yeah, but the market is catching up. The new Asus TF701T should be hitting the market soon with the same resolution but boasting much better battery life. Plus it's rumored that Asus is doing the 2nd Gen Nexus 10 that is coming soon as well.

Is it the hardware (iP5S) or the software (iOS7 and/or poorly-written apps) though? From reading the cited article, and the few adult comments to it, it would seem that the culprit is actually the OS mainly at fault.

Yep. My daughter has the earlier iPhone 5 and hates the update because it broke working things. Important things, not nuisance stuff.

The meme is that Apple is fast to update and everyone gets it.

The truth is that it *always* takes some serious update cycles before you really have the goods on any of their major revision changes.

That's just how they've rolled with all of their stuff since OS X 10.2, roughly ten or more years ago.

Informed Apple consumers expect it and weather the storm patiently.

The Kool Aide drinkers freak out when it happens to them, but because there's no magic, just a business practice, we see the outcry and infighting every time.

It's past boring because it's so predictable.

I dont think that will happen. They already have the nexus 7, why give them all the credit. I think HTC needs some love with the nexus line. Maybe they should finally make a tablet to wow us.

Yup. Common sense dictates that you should wait before updating, no matter what the OS. I waited a few weeks before updating my Nexus 4 to 4.3, and I will probably wait to update it to 4.4.

That's the nice thing about root for Android, even if you don't want to change anything and just run stock, iow, just as you bought it.

The stock rooted updates hit within hours or days of the OTA.

With root, you can make a full, perfect backup of what you have, and then give the new stuff a go.

If you don't like the update, you can go back to what you had within a few minutes and then wait for the fixes.

Rooting isn't everyone's cup of tea but the access to full nandroid backups you get with it makes the initial setup trouble really worthwhile.

All that and you don't leave the Android/Google ecosystem at all.

Well at least Apple is being fair. First they copied notifications features and quick settings from Android, then the look of iOS 7 from My Little Pony, and now they're copying Windows XP's most famous feature.

The brass at Apple has got to be thinking - why did it have to be blue? ANYTHING but blue!! :D

They needed to have a cool Guru Meditation Error like you could have on the Amiga.
