Yes, I am running slim ROM and whatever kernel comes with slim ROM. When my phone is in LTE/CDMA/EvDo I get LTE but no MMS. When in CDMA/EvDo I get MMS but no LTE. In both settings the same Virgin Internet LTE APN seems to be lit up under access point settings.

Ok - keep it going for me. Test these (others can in LTE areas too)

Shot in the dark 1 on slim bean with slim bean kernel and Wifi off (noticed 1 apn from previous version is now gone):

Set the phone to LTE/CDMA/EvDo and the correct LTE APN is selected.
LTE yes
SMS yes
MMS not able to send. Haven't tested receiving

Switch phone into CDMA/EvDo. APN1 Virgin Internet LTE still selected.
LTE no
3g no
SMS yes
MMS not able to send. Haven't tested receiving
note: the 3g icon was initially present but 3g wasn't working. I rebooted the phone and there was no longer any 3g icon. Only text messages worked. When I switched back to LTE/CDMA/EvDo I didn't get LTE anymore.

Retesting Shot in the dark 1 on slim bean with slim bean kernel and Wifi off:

Set the phone to LTE/CDMA/EvDo and the correct LTE APN is selected.
LTE yes
SMS yes
MMS not able to send. Haven't tested receiving (wasn't looking for dialog box seen below)

Switch phone into CDMA/EvDo. APN1 Virgin Internet LTE still selected.
LTE no
3g no
SMS yes
MMS not able to send. Haven't tested receiving (get a dialog box that pops up and says "currently can't send your message. It will be sent when service becomes available")

Shot in the dark 2 on slim bean with slim bean kernel and Wifi off (noticed 1 apn from previous version is now gone):

Set the phone to LTE/CDMA/EvDo and the correct LTE APN is selected.
LTE yes
SMS yes
MMS not able to send. Haven't tested receiving (get a dialog box that pops up and says "currently can't send your message. It will be sent when service becomes available")

So that there isn't any confusion here is my install/test process.
1. Boot to recovery
2. Wipe Data factory reset
3. Clear Dalvik
4. Flash Slim ROM
5. Boot and wait 1 min or so
6. Reboot Recovery
7. Flash APN fix
8. Reboot
9. Make sure phone is in LTE mode and that the Virgin Internet LTE APN is selected
10. Test LTE, MMS and SMS
11. Switch phone into EVDO/CDMA only mode test 3g and MMS

If there is anything in my testing process that you would like me to do differently let me know.
Question: is it ok to flash the APN right after the ROM without reboot? I tried this once and nothing seemed different from when I followed the process above.

Thank you for the help!

Right now there are 3 basic lines that function:

<apn carrier="APN1 Virgin Internet LTE" numeric="310120" mcc="310" mnc="120" apn="n.vmu.ispsn" user="" server="" password="" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="" mmsport="" mmsc="" type="default,supl,fota,dun" bearer="14" />
<apn carrier="APN1 Virgin Internet EHRPD" numeric="310120" mcc="310" mnc="120" apn="n.vmu.ispsn" user="" server="" password="" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="" mmsport="" mmsc="" type="default,supl,fota,dun" bearer="13" />
<apn carrier="APN2 Virgin Mobile MMS" numeric="310120" mcc="310" mnc="120" apn="n.ispsn" user="Sprint" server="*" password="*" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="205.239.233.136" mmsport="81" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms?" type="mms" />

The top 2 lines labeled APN1 are the APN lines to connect for LTE or EHRPD for everything expect MMS. The last line APN2 is for the MMS. On mine for some reason my phone will shift to the MMS line sned&recieve MMS then return to the EHRPD (no LTE here). Yours seems not to shift (as well as many others)

The ultimate fix is to put "mms" in the top two line....but that doesnt work either. The post / address / user / password...something is off. an apn="n.vmu.ispsn" will kick it to LTE but not allow MMS.

Here I put most of the data into this one:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/sjtsj5dc08yh0hd/CM-AOSP_D2VMU_APN_FIX-Tinker.zip

For those who want to "tinker" with it. Change settings in the LTE line. Don't forget to hit menu>save before backing out.

I guess we have to figure out what makes Punkmaxx's S3 so special since the rest of us are getting the same old results really.

Has anyone played around with these setting in GoSMS? I don't know enough to play with them.

It would seem that my phone was switching in between services when sending MMS, I thought I was on LTE the whole time when in fact I switched it to 3G and the message sent and received. I usually test things when I'm driving around in between jobs I just didn't realize how often I was switching cell service bands. But things would send and receive when I came to a 3G only service area

Well that sucks... :( 4G and 3G work as they should, but I also noticed that when I switched back to MG2_Ryder that their is a prolonged gap in switching from 4G to 3G while moving around campus. It would say 4G even though it's a 3G area only and it will not let me use data until it switches over to 3G. It's a small gap, but it was not there before.

@Ryder would you happen to have a fix zip that restores APN to defaults or how does that work?

If you flash one of my zips you can go into the "Access Point Names" then menu > "Reset to default". That will get you to the last flashed APN settings.

If you wanted the ROMs stock...well....if you tell me what one you downloaded I make a flashable return to stock for you.

Well I mean like the native settings that our phones ship with I guess. I mostly use MG2_Ryder for example, so whatever goes with stock VM ROMs.

BTW thanks for all the help man, it seems like you're the only one here with experience who is working his butt off, if I knew more I'd definitely be helping out more.

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't the stock apns-conf.xml file work on all roms on a given network? The IP/port/proxy/etc a phone uses to communicate with a tower shouldn't be different from stock should it?

I was looking at the apns that the VM Samsung Victory LTE comes with and it's the same as the S3.

stock uses something called chameleon first.of all, which as far as i can tell changes the carrier numeric value to the fake virgin mobile one instead of the actual sprint one. that has an effect on both stock sprint and aosp because its actually connected to sprint but the correct apns are labeled as virgin so they dont get used without that chameleon trickery , but the main aosp issue is that the programs in a stock rom are proprietary, meaning they are custom software built by the manufacturer and sprint, so aosp roms are too generic to have the.network specific tweaks

I seem to default to connecting to the sprint global APN (for 3g) most of the time on pac-man ROM... Interesting... Seems to transfer data just fine.... Only connects to VM EHRPD once in a while....

Will someone in a LTE area test to see if this connects via LTE please:

CM-AOSP_D2VMU_APN_FIX-Test-LTE1

Ive been doing a lot testing and will post my findings within the next few days. Im not sure a total fix can be found. Im still trying though.

You just want us to see if it connects to LTE? I'll try it out. Also, as I've mentioned before, can you make a zip that restores the APN to that used in our stock TW ROMs like MG2_Ryder. I'm not sure how it all works, but sometimes my data acts wonky even after I go back to stock.

Sure can make that. Just making sure though - this fix is made for Cm or AOSP roms not TW ones.

After flashing CM-AOSP_D2VMU_APN_FIX-Test-LTE1.zip I'm not getting any data, 3G or 4G LTE. Under "Access Point Names" EHRPD and LTE are not ticked, even if I tick either and or reboot they won't engage. I'm using the latest SlimBean Weekly.

Anyway, thanks for doing the stock APN zip I requested, and for your hard work.

Same thing happened to me. I left my phone alone over night, woke up and had LTE and 3G. so far after 2 days everything is still fine.

Just to tell all what I use. I'll update OP later.

I don't live in a LTE area. I have my phone set to LTE\CDMA\EvDo and flashed (use) the LTE-MMS_T1 fix from post#232.

It works flawless for me. Instant connection with working MMS.

I'll try it in the AM for lte ability... I've got a place less than a mile from my house with lte coverage... I'll try to send MMS while on 4g

EDIT: tried the LTE-MMS_T1 fix from post#232..... got mms but not lte.... wouldn't even force connect to 4g from APNs menu...

Getting to a point where I was trying so many combos I had to start to use a spreadsheet to keep track of it.

Ok someone in an LTE area test this:

CM-AOSP_D2VMU_APN_FIX-LTE-SEND

It should (hope) be able to connect via LTE and SEND MMS but prob not receive MMS.

Ill explain more soon if this test works out. If its what I think we may have to downshift to EvDo 3G to do MMS and upshift to LTE after.

Yeah, PieFromTheSky and I reported the same results the day Moped released the T1 fix, not sure why we are even backtracking to it lol

Getting to a point where I was trying so many combos I had to start to use a spreadsheet to keep track of it. It was pretty quick too no delays in sending and him receiving, thanks so much Ryder. I'll now see if i can receive any.

Okay, I'll give it a go right now and report back.

Edit: Okay, using the latest SlimBean Weekly and APN fix, I was successfully able to send a picture to my brother with LTE on.

Sweet thanks for quick testing and the info... Gonna try this out and test LTE w/ MMS in the morning on the way to work. Exciting progress... Thanks for all the hard work Mopedryder!

I can confirm that sending is working but receiving is not. I tested with Wifi on, Wifi off, and when my phone dropped LTE and went to 3g (still set to LTE/CDMA/EVDO mode). Every time the picture sent to another phone.

I also set the phone into CDMA/EvDo mode just to see what would happen. I was able to send but not receive MMS in this mode as well.
