Buying in store on the 29th! Read this!

I just emailed the salesrep that I talked to last Friday evening at the local store by me and asked him about this "pre-order/hold list" and deposit thing.
We'll see what he says today....

As long as Verizon Wireless continues the marketing plan for the Incredible. = non existent before launch day then you guys got nothing to worry about. They lost out on 30 million viewers when they ran the droid does commercials at the nfl draft.

Its kind of amazing they didn't push the Incredible on nfl draft day or on any channel the past few days..havent seen one commercial about it...if I hear the reception on calls is ok for marginal areas I'll order online, love the instant rebate

Because I don't have to go through all the anxiety, crying and crap in the other threads about "My order status hasn't changed" BS. As I've already stated in several other pre-order threads, I'm the opposite. I see no reason to pre-order, as I'll be in/out of my local store this Thurs morning at 9am well before 99% of those who pre-ordered get theirs from FedEx :p
I will be paying the exact same price, with the only difference is I have to send in my $100 rebate. Big whoop-de-do!

Again, to each his own. But right now, I have 0% anxiety going into this week about getting the phone unlike about 99.9% of the people on here who are going stir freakin' crazy. Just look at the past 10pages of 900 in the main thread and you'll see what I'm talking about. Pandemonium at it's best and all for nothing

The reason I pre-ordered is that I hate Verizon Stores. The last time I bought phones in the store was about 4 years ago. It took over an hour to get out of the store with two Moto Razr V3s! Sign in, wait for the someone to help me, wait for them to get the phones, wait for them to set it up, wait to pay. Very aggravating since I knew exactly what I wanted and I had no questions. Perhaps I'm impatient, but I've bought a house faster!

Two years ago I purchased 2 Dares by calling Verizon direct. Very fast:
Me: I want two Dares:
CSR: Great, let me give you some plan options for your new phone.
Me: I take that plan.
CSR: Your total is $XXX.XX and the phones will ship tomorrow.
Me: Bye.
Received phones a few days later.

TIP - Never, ever do anything with a Verizon third party representative. They are the people that call you direct and say they are Verizon, but they are not! You are on your own and Verizon can't help if you have a problem with any phone orders or changes that you do with a third party.

Unfortunately I didn't try calling Verizon to order the Incredible since the website stated that pre-orders were online only. Perhaps I would have my phone now if I did!

Dont see what the big deal is, if they run out just order online or wait another week when they get a second shipment in. I personally dont think they will go out of stock in one or two days since this phone has had zero marketing and not everyone going to the Verizon store wants to spend $200 on a phone when there are plenty of free ones all over.

This is where you are mistaken. You will soon see that the reason they are not heavily advertising is because HTC cannot support demand, and all current stock will be sold out quickly. The best way to get a unit in a timely manner is to order it online. VZW is stuck in a hard place. They will sell as many as they can get, but supply is limited.

Oh really??? You really think 150,000 Incredibles will be sold over the weekend? when most of the tech geeks out there now have Moto Droids and are not planning on giving them up yet.

Moto Droid with its MASSIVE marketing campaign sold well because it was the first Android phone on Verizon and people have been waiting for it. Today Verizons customers have already been saturated with Android phones and are not planning on upgrading to the Incredible except for maybe Eris uses who realized they were fooled into buying an obsolete phone.

No - not if you have Back Up Assistant already on your current phone (free). Then you just load Back Up Assistant on your new phone and it will transfer all the numbers and contacts instantly without waiting in line (waits in MY local store for technical service to do phone to phone transfers are 30 minutes min).

Activating the phone also does not require going into a store.

I always order online for the instant rebate, and just have the phone shipped to my job. We receive hundreds of Fedex and UPS deliveries a day, and my receiving guy just IM's me when I'm expecting an order and it arrives. Of course, I'm also tracking and as soon as I see he's signed for a package, I head out to the warehouse.

i was told back up assistant wouldnt work on the incredible. they would have to do it in store. i have a old voyager with back up assistant installed. i guess if you already have a google account with your contacts, when u fire up phone and put in your google account it will populate all your contacts automatically. but i dont have a google or gmail yet so i will have to create one. verizon said i can create one right on phone but iam not sure how my old contacts from my old voyager will get to my incredible without back up assistant.

The $50 gift card/hold must be in certain stores cuz I called the stores around me and they will not hold phones, and have no idea about the "$50 gift card to hold a phone deal".

I'm just going to go and buy the phone in person. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't everyone have to go in the store and get the phone set up and numbers and contacts all transferred over to the new phone?

You can start working on getting your contacts transferred _before_ you get the phone. Add them all to Gmail now! (That's the best way to manage your Android's contacts). I found with the Moto Droid that the store CSR's were completely incompetent when it comes to these phones (when they asked me for my Gmail username and password I laughed, took the phone away, and left the store)

Yea, there is NOOOO f-ing way ANY VZW employee is going to touch my phone when I get mine. Don't even take it out of the box :) lol...
The less they touch it, the better it will be. There is zero need for any VZW employee to touch/setup/etc your phone.
Simply go in the back, pull out a brand new INC box and ring me up. DONE! Adios MF!

heres a pic of my reservation. i would think most true verizon stores would be doing this as it looks like a company wide email they should have recieved and then just print it out.

So I'm guessing that there is no way to transfer numbers from a blackberry to the HINC? I'm hoping that there is because that's one less step i have to go through (I'm up to bout 450 phone numbers on my Storm so the less I have to type or enter into gmail the better)

You may wanna look into a way to import them into google...

Get the numbers from the storm into your computer, Export them to a CSV or vCard file so Google contacts can import. Setup a google account on the Inc and the contacts will transfer over

I've had some success using Google Sync from a Blackberry -- this can sync your contacts from your BB (and calendar etc.) to your Gmail account.

According to the Specs at VZW online, the Incredible is Back Up Assistant Capable.

Services
  • Visual Voice Mail capable
  • Backup Assistant capable
  • Mobile Broadband Connectcapable
  • HTML Browser: Supports Flash Lite 4.0
  • WiFi

OK I'm guessing by some success you mean that it's missed one or two numbers? If I can avoid going to the store I will...

I copied all the contacts from my Storm in preparing to get my new INC. I exported all my contacts form Outlook to a CSV file and then open that in an excel spreadsheet. I did find that for it to upload correctly to my Gmail account I had to rename some of the headings and delete many unnecessary fields but after a few tweaks they all uploaded correctly.

If they have them in the store in the back, why wont they start selling them... do they really think delaying until thursday will produce more sales?

they would be in big trouble if they started selling early. employees would be fired. some stores showed me the demo incredible and let me play with it. other stores quietly brought me outside before they took the phone out of their pocket to show it to me. some stores take it very seriously and others do not. just imagine all the calls and emails they already recieved cuz a few people received their phones already by mistake:(.

I'm with you on this AND I have a rep that has sold us our last 6+ years worth of phones. He goes out of his way to help us out and usually throws in a few accessories. Buying from a local rep helps them out, but by all means if the reps at your store had an attitude problem take your business somewhere else.

AND... FedEx can pound sand from now on! I will NEVER trust FedEx with anything again. I used to dislike UPS for taking a perfectly square box and making a BALL out of it but last month FedEx LOST  (per their own trace department and staff an employee probably stole it!) a $1000 electronic test tool the size of a phone. But because their computer system zeroed out my $1000 shipping insurance, that was on it at the time it shipped, they sent me a check for $100!

I'll take my chances waiting for the store to open and know that FedEx won't loose it and I will walk out of the store with a working phone by 10:30am. If I have a problem with the phone at the store they can grab another one for me! :)

Here in Phoenix, most stores that I've talked to have received between 15 to 40. The manager at one store yesterday said he received a memo that they are not to show them to anyone and they are to keep them under lock and key. That said they did have a dummy/demo phone to look at.

I was more or less commenting its stupid to make a release date if your not going to hype it up with advertising or Steve Jobs presentations.

The phone comes with HTC Sync which is supposed to Synchronize Outlook Contacts and Calendar. It's what I'm going to use or you can install Google Sync (which I'm trying on my BB now to get used to it). Google Sync will sync your Contacts and Calendar to your Google account and then when you get your Incredible it should pull everything down when you sign in. Hopefully ;)

Also if you are going to be new to gmail, and want to port your email over from whatever else you were using (yahoo, msn, whatever)...the easiest way is to use Outlook.

If your email is set up as your main box, you can open up a secondary box at the same time (in this case being gmail). Then in your main box, drag and drop your inbox, sent box, and the rest into gmail. It will copy all the mail to it (if you have a slow connection at home this could take a while...but it works).
