How to install The Collective ROM A0CP on the Boost Galaxy S3

I followed the method below. 3G, SMS, MMS and everything works. I was unable to test 4G due the the fact that it is not available in my area yet. Hopefully it will work for you.

Download the Collective ROM and GAPPS from the link provided.
Download the Modified Updater Script- updater-script replacement for The Collective ROM
Download the Piggyback zip- http://www.mediafire.com/?i678ydl9wv2o75g
Download Boost xml file- https://app.box.com/s/o9folfrq00ee9p2qj5pv (click on download button at the top once you

I flashed "the collective ROM" followed the steps and all went well... Thanks biker for the wright up! You did a thorough job.

I can not test 4G or MMS at my house.... So I'll report back tomorrow.

The ROM looks nice and runs smooth. Nice color for this season, quite festive.

It's rather similar to CARBON ROM and I would prefer CARBON ROM over this. But that's just my opinion...
However, the collective has some nice modifications, and has more and more likings the more I play with it.

MMS works

*** FC on attaching a new recording to MMS

Thanks for the update Smith. Nice looking ROM huh? :D Hopefully you'll be able to get 4G when you are able to test it. As for MMS, I tested pictures only with multiple phones on different carriers. Everything I sent and recieved worked.

Did you get a Force Close when attaching a recording to MMS? I've honestly never even sent a recording via MMS. A setting may need to be changed or it may actually be a bug. From what I've read over in the ROM thread, the Dev is working on a few things. We may see an update in the near future.

As far the ROM as a whole, I was very impressed. It looks good, runs great and has a lot of options. Including the GAPPS zip, the ROM is only 261 MBs too. ;)

For the ones who may want to give this ROM a try, it also has a few different kernels that will work with it if you are looking to overclock. They have to be added but that's no big deal. It only took me a few minutes to find them after doing a little reading. :)

There are also AoCP themes for the ROM that can be purchased on Play. Some of you may want to check those out.

From messaging, click attachment, new voice recording... FC

Hmm. I wonder if its a ROM bug or not. I can't check it right now because I'm running Vanilla Root box. Have you checked the ROM thread to see if anyone else has listed it as not working? I'll try it once I get through testing out Vanilla Root box. Might be awhile bro. Vanilla is flippin SWEET! I'm running the stock kernel with ADW EX and this baby is snappy as can be. :D It has all the goodness of CM,PA,and AOKP combined. :D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A HEADS UP TO ANY OF YOU WANTING TO TRY VANILLA ROOTBOX. SOME CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE IN ORDER FOR IT TO FLASH ON YOUR NEW BOOST MODEM. I KNOW A FEW OF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T, I'LL GET A TUT AND MODIFIED SCRIPT ADDED TOMORROW NIGHT. GIVE ME SOME TIME. I'VE GONNA TRY AND GET THIS 102

Your write ups look great, thanks for taking the time to do it

Thanks bro. I basically just changed out the modded updater-script link and a few other things . Thankfully the majority of the steps for flashing the non-Touch Whiz ROMs are the same and I was able to do a little copy and paste action from my original TUT. :p

I will say 1 thing about VanillaRoot Box....... It's snappy!! I ran it all day today and didn't have any problems at all. It has quite a bit of customization's in the phone settings too. I was going to flash one of the other kernels available for the ROM but decided against it for right now. The stock kernel is working just fine. I've even got the Max dialed down a little with the Gov set at OnDemand. The phone still performs nicely. :D

Battery consumption was higher than excepted but not terrible or anything. I'm at 11 hrs with 27% left. I was in the Dr's office today for a good while and signal is nonexistent in that building. I should have put the phone in airplane mode. The phone continually attempting to acquire signal drained the battery a good bit I'm sure.

Ok, I got the Collective ROM working, but now I don't have 3G/4g data. I think I missed this step because I had wi-fi, and now I don't have any data or mms. CRAP!

"If you’re not going to have wifi available after flashing the ROM, you’ll need to do these steps now. Download the APK Share app and the APN Backup & Restore app from Google Play. Install both. Open the APK Share app and find APN Backup & Restore. Tap it and chose BACKUP. It will save the app to the apkshare folder on your phone. Just a heads up, my folder was located on my internal sd card, not the ext sd. You’ll need this app later to change your APNs. You will also need a copy of the Titanium backup apk or a file explorer apk with root privileges on your sd card. One of these will be needed to make the APN Backup & Restore a system app so you can use it to activate data and MMS"

I followed the Boost Mobile APNs reset, but no luck. Can somebody help, I did a backup, but now I can not restore anything from my sd card. Should I reinstall?

You don't put it on your SD card.

The app reads from internal storage in the folder it created

Assuming your on 4.3... It'll need to be in the 0 folder.

If you did the backup from a touchwiz ROM you'll need to move the folder from outside of the 0 folder into it

Thanks for catching that. I mentioned in my TUT that the APN Backup and restore folder would be located on the Internal storage not the ext sd card and that the Boost xml file would need to be transferred to the proper folder.

Here's the problem I think he's having. He's saved the Boost xml file to his ext sd card and he can't access it. He's got something messed up somewhere if he can't access his sd card.

To fix 3g data
Go to settings, more, mobile network, choose (CDMA/evdo) not (LTE/CDMA/evdo)

. I edited some of Austrie's original steps so the RECOVERY FIX isn't needed anymore. If you want to check it out and use that version of TWRP, look for my post in that thread.

Lol, we're sending them to the same xda thread... We're pointing everyone to the same moded recovery fix... Both CWM and TWRP Odin tars work, as well as CWM_mod2.IMG and TWRP_mod2.IMG

Still doesn't explain why he can't access his sd card though.

I need to add the part about switching to CDMA to the write up too. Thanks for mentioning that. I do it automatically since I don't have 3g in my area. Lol. :D

Yep, I saw that. Wish you could have seen the smile on my face when I scrolled down past the img files and saw the Odin packages. I'm glad I read up on everything before I started flashing too. It was nice being able to use Austrie's recovery and root tutorial, then modify a few steps and add the working TWRP Odin tar. Mine was fixed from the start.:D Lol.

After using Odin so much over in the Prevail section, I've gotten use to it. Even though I know how to use adb and fastboot, I would pick using Odin over both of them if it were an option.

Bro, you just don't know how happy I was when I bought this phone knowing I was going to have access to Odin again. Not only is it easy to use, it's also saved my butt on quite a few occasions. Lol.

You should have seen the smile on my face when I was finally able to get cwm to work after having to go a few months without it and having to find a way to root my phone without it... Oh and after returning 2 other S3's cuz I couldn't get it to work.... Lol

.>....,,,,,,,..,,,...

Yup, me too... Look at my list of phones, I stuck with Samsung, until I tried that HTC design, locked bootloader, fastboot, no Odin to save your @$$ if you mess up....

I was more than happy to come back to Sammy

Yep. Lol...... Starting off with Odin on my 1st Android phone spoiled me. Especially with all the Odin flashable files that were made for it. They've got everything from rooted ROMs with CWM to basebands that can be flashed with Odin over in the Prevail section. :D

Yep. It'll work. Just keep at it. You missed something somewhere. It has worked for everyone who's tried it.

Are you using TWRP or CWM? I am using the version of TWRP listed in the post I made in the root recovery thread. I edited some of Austrie's original steps so the RECOVERY FIX isn't needed anymore. If you want to check it out and use that version of TWRP, look for my post in that thread.

The steps I added that you quoted are for the people who don't have wifi available at all. If you have wifi then you should be good to go. You shouldn't of had to use those steps.

What's got me curious is why in the world you can't access your sd card? That one has got me scratching my head. Lol

Did you enable the ICS check in the APN Backup and restore app like it says to in the tutorial thread?

Start over from scratch.

I did enable the ICS Check in the APN backup.

Right now, I am using the CWM recovery. Maybe I should switch over to a TWRP recovery instead?

I am going to start over again. I was able to get my phone back to a starting point with one of the ODIN files in the OP. (Thank you for the person who tested and posted that). I was really scratching my head of why I could not get into my sd card. I'm not giving up yet!

Bro, I tested both ROMS using the exact tutorials I posted. The original tutorial posted for Vanilla Root box had to be changed because the script needed to be edited to flash with the newest stock Boost baseband. I fixed it up and it worked perfectly.

Don't give up because both ROMs are nice. Hopefully you'll be able to get it flashed this time.

first you need root for wifi:

then you need wifi:

She does have the option of using Klink Tether Without Root. It will allow her to hook her phone to her computer via the data cable so she can access the internet. It must be purchased from play because the demo version is very limited on what sites it can access. The app comes with easy to follow instruction too. She can use her 3G to download the app needed for her computer, then transfer it via data cable to the pc and install.

I used it with my Prevail before we had working wifi. It has also came in handy when working on computers that don't have wifi or any form of internet. :D

Hi all

I was just wondering if you had to do some things to get the hotspot working. I remembered reading something about it in the beginning of the thread.

But I just activated it right now on the Wicked Sensation ROM and it works just fine.

Been using it for about 20 minutes now.

Just a reminder for anyone flashing Vanilla Root Box. FOLLOW Bikers instructions exactly. I lost voice, text, and 3g and could not figure out how to get it back. Restored my Moar backup and still did not have it.
Went back and read everything again, tried all kinds of stuff, still no luck.

Finally gave up and went to bed. Woke up this morning and remembered reading something about going to Settings/More Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Mode and selecting CDMA. Rebooted phone and everything works.

The first time went to the Mobile Networks screen, neither option was checked. One of the options was related to GSM and the other was CDMA. After the reboot, the GSM option was gone and replaced by an a CDMA/LTE option like it output the box.

A good night's sleep solved my problem. I hope this helps someone to save some time and stress. Read through ALL the posts first and have everything ready to go to avoid making the same mistake I did. Lol.

Oh, I forgot to mention that somehow in the process of flashing VRB, I managed to erase my Sdcard0. I think that is where my APN backup was. I am not sure if I did it when I did an advanced wipe or if the installer zip did it. Just a heads up to make sure you have it backed up. I did not. Don't think I lost much. I try to keep everything on the external card.
