I am sorry what is 4g? Will that allow me to transfer my iphone apps to evo? No? Oh but the new iphone is called 4g. So it will have everything I need.

But you do not understand, Verizon has a iphone 4g, it will have anything that the the evo has, the commercials say so.

Oh you mean news technology, oh that is ok, I do not need more then what has been provided. After all the original Iphone only came out in 2g speeds when 3g was common every where. I buy apple because it is stable. Because, you know the commercials say so.

Joe user if it was release before june-

wow that is cool, I will try it for 30 days.

Chances are they will keep it. But before june they will at least try it.

If it is not released before june, people will try the iphone and stay with that.


Sorry sprint if you do not release before june, it will be an epic fail.

Media members usually get the devices ahead of the public, so even if the release is June 13th I expect the media to get their hands on the device in late May. At that point the Evo will have a solid 3-4 weeks of the spotlight before the iphone mania takes over on June 22.

Releasing post-iphone (and potentially post Galaxy S too, don't forget) is suicide.

I agree with all that and want to add one thing. It's very obvious that sites like engadget, BGR, and gizmodo obviously love apple products and will give the new iphone raving reviews, but based on their reviews of the Incredible, I can tell that they're not so biased that if they review an android device and it's a flawless experience, that they'll find a way to bash it just because it isn't an iphone. So if they loved the Incredible so much, when they review the EVO I know it will be raved about and I wouldn't be surprised if they admit that it is a far superior device to the new iphone. Of course there will be much more attention given to the iphone, but I'm sure the EVO review will have its place in the banner of top stories on their front pages. It will definitely be interesting to watch all this play out.
 
Arguments can be made either way about the release date. We could literally go on and on and on about not releasing it soon enough and then being part of the iPhone wrath or releasing it too soon, overlooking some bugs and getting the bad publicity wrath of "not worth all the hype because it has the following issues.."

I don't want to argue about the release date. It's beyond our control. It's up to Sprint anyways. No matter when they release it there will be complainers. I'm hoping to get it in June. If it doesn't happen. Oh well. I will survive.

They have been building this thing for over a year. It has been mentioned that the only things holding it back is 4g buildout and some software issues. I also believe that june would be key to a potential release date.

Hell yeah! I am already planning on traveling a couple hours to visit nearby city that has good wimax coverage on whatever days end up being the first buy date, 6, 13th whenever, just plan on a couple days there and buy it at best buy or a sprint store while visiting. I will not likely live anywhere with good wimax for a long time, so it will be so evolicious to get a taste of it on release day.

Believe it or not Apple is one of the best companies as far as deadlines for releases. The iPhone and it's timetable releases work off a strict yearly calendar. They've been releasing new iPod and iPhones roughly at the sametime each year for several years now, and the iPhone 3GS is showing it's age especially with all these new smartphones with 1GHZ processors coming out.

They've already got prototypes out which means a final build as far as hardware is concerned is probably already complete. I'm pretty sure they're working out software bugs and by May they'll be starting packaging and shipping putting them dead on yet again this year for a late June early july release date. Oh and the fact that they rented out a convention center for a major press release on June 22 might give us a hint too.
 
I don't want to be a buzz kill, but went to BB today and they are clueless. They have no release dates, not a pre-order date, naddah!. I live where wimax got it's berth and they have nothing. I put money down and could not get a gift card for EVO....I don't know, but it's looking EVO is going to be awhile...It's not May that is for sure...and if it is June...I would be impressed..but EVO is still a ways out....

I thought this is a HTC EVO thread, who gives a rats rear butt about Iphone. I should know better to bite on this, but your killing meh! If you want to talk about the latest and greatest for the Iphone go to Applesauce.com. I could give a crap arse about a piece of technology that is soo yesterday.. I and the rest of andriodformus.com care about android phones. Your point with apple products here in a Android forum is eluding me. Once again nobody cares, if your going to contribute to all things Android plz pull up a chair, but if you going to taught about Apple your are in the in the wrong place..Your a taxi cab.

release and marketing blitz before iphone event and another marketing blitz a little while after the iphone event....with some possibly new spots made to counter whatever apple has cooked up.

Next time be more wary of who you aim your glasses of scortch at, they might backfire! Try reading a few pages next time you might learn that the iPhone discussion was in this thread way before my comment was made.
 
I vote for this bad boy to come out asap... It couldn't be any worse than the BB Storm, could it? Lol. I'm sure sprint has been planning this release since they started developing it, probably over thinking it, but hey, as long as I get the phone, SOON!, I don't particularly care if idiots buy any other phone, their loss. Sure I would love for sprint to do well and turn around having the best cell phone on the market, but if other people stick with the iPhone or incredible, wtvr, they prob won't even know what they're missing. I have been telling everyone I know about this phone, and most of them have computers that rival the specs of the evo, their screen might be bigger, slightly lol. My parents computer has a 1.6 ghz processor and 256MB RAM!! My mom even gets nervous when she has to get a new Verizon phone, because she thinks she's going to have to relearn how to call people. Obviously, one extreme, but I'm sure my mom isn't the only one. This phones real market is not very big, but with the specs it has, can definitely get people to come it's way. I showed my dad the HD2 and his thought was "i can at least see the screen". Lol. (and im done, been holding that one back a little too long... Lol)
 
They've got to be releasing in June.

I know a lot of you have convinced yourselves that the Incredible is somehow way worse than the EVO is despite having virtually identical specs where it counts (my personal exception being the ability to watch HD video / HDMI), but in reality, they're just about the same phone. Point being, no one is going to hold out for nearly four months after a virtually equivalent phone is already out on the market, and obviously Sprint probably doesn't want to lose the techno-buzz that the EVO has generated.

As far as competing with the iPhone... the EVO doesn't, if you're talking about mainstream perception. The iPhone isn't going to be toppled by any one phone because Apple are geniuses when it comes to creating buzz. Local news companies around my neck of the woods have stories on them when they first come out, for god's sake.

It would be a massive gaffe to sit on this phone. Sprint won't do it.

Finally, a plea... half of the posts in this thread are off-topic and watering down what was once a great, informative thread. I get that a small community has been built here, but what are the chances one of the mods can make one post some sort of journal post whose contents are links to other posts with actual news in them (where "news" is stuff like folks posting about discussions with their reps or when SS posts information)?

Around and around and around we go. Yes, I will agree with you that we keep returning to the same topics over and over and over again. But that's really just the nature of discussion forums like these, where there are new folks constantly coming aboard (a good thing) who don't read all of our history and instead rehash old topics (not such a good thing). But it is what it is unfortunately.


Regarding your "journal post," suggestion, the first post of this thread already contains almost all relevant Evo information a newcomer needs to know. Bill has done a fantastic job of keeping it up to date. But quite frankly, there really haven't been any new earth shattering revelations within the last 1-2 weeks... just the same information rehashed over and over again.

That being said, if you pay enough attention, you'll see that if you just read the posts of 3 or 4 specific individuals here, that you'll get all of the breaking information that you need. The rest is fluff and can be ignored.
