Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

The Nokia Lumia 929 (Verizon)will have a 5 inch screen with a 1080 x 1920 display that offers a pixel density of 441ppi. That should sound familiar to those Android users with a top-shelf model. A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is expected to drive the device, which will carry 2GB of RAM and 32GB/64 GB of native storage. A 20.7MP PureView snapper is on back.

We watched Jurassic Park 3D the other night and I am astounded by how the wizards in Hollywood can take a 2-dimensional movie and convert it to 3-dimension so well. It was great!

Good morning all - hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Got up at 9AM to wash the car in the frigid cold, but I enjoy a squeaky clean car and needed the wheels clean so I can swap to winter wheels next week and put these up for sale.

Han! Oh, I did miss the epic gnex thread. The nexus 5 wait hasn't been as fun. Although getting off verizon for a real nexus experience will be nice.

I still think you look good in Bolo hats.

I have discovered it's much easier to be a design verifier than it is to be the actual designer. It's much easier to point out someone else's mistakes than it is to catch my own, lol.
 
Nyxie is getting worse and worse for battery life. 6 hours after unplugging, with about an hour of screen on, and I'm at 36%. I can't wait to get a new phone with a better battery

Anything is better than the GNex honestly.

I'm at 8 hours off charger, with 2 hours 30 minutes screen on time and about two hours of Spotify streaming and I am at 60% and I have been on LTE since I don't use the WiFi at work.

I've always replaced my phones battery every year, which helps a bit, but the verizon gnex has always been awful.

I'll miss the ability to easily swap batteries with the nextus 5, but a small price to pay given how cheap it'll be off contract. And no more verizon delaying updates.
 
BB, I'm with Stigy. With my G2, I honestly don't worry about its battery life since it's astounding. I've since used my old Gnex to stream music at work and keep it plugged in all day since it needs it! Hoping you can find something to upgrade to soon! :)
 
So, there's an Apple Store that just came into the mall near me. I put my gnex side by side with the 5s and the iPhone screen is better. Brighter. It always was, even back in the day. Is that the difference between super amoled and LCD or something?
 
The gnex isn't known for its screen resolution, especially when you're comparing one piece of tech that's brand new and another that's coming up on its 2 year birthday

If you took a "modern" flagship and held it side by side I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference. :)

I'd say go to your nearest carrier and do a side by side. Let us know what you think!
 
thanks rx. Yeah, the gnex never had a display as vivid as teh iphone, even back in the day. I want to see the note 3 vs the iphone.

The iphone felt so small!!!!
 
Amoled screens do a very nice job at showing all the different levels of blacks and grays. It's also more power efficient than LCD. However the downside is that brighter colors appear somewhat washed out and there's always the chance of image burn in. LCD does a better job at showing more detailed colors and if it's IPS+, it really helps when viewing in bright daylight. But it's less power efficient.

I like the way it looks better as well. Plus Amoled's tend to be pentile matrix based which detracts from some of the crispness as well. However the Moto X is Amoled and full RGB, and it looks fantastic.
 
Still less power efficient but often not an issue anymore.

With wifi, 6 to 8 hours of screen on time just hasn't been a problem for my LCD phone.

And the AMOLEDS have made improvements to color rendering.

It won't be long before AMOLED vs LCD becomes a cultural difference rather than a technical one on the high end phones.
