Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I really don't know where all the reviews are pulling that from.

They claim its part of the 3.8 kernel, but all the leaks have shown 3.4 still

I think he's talking about the fact is supposedly for lower specd devices

It's not surprising to me to see them drop support. The Nexus S got EOL'd on 4.1.2 at 2 years of age even though it was more than capable of running 4.2. Gnex is officially 2 years old in about 2.5 weeks, so it follows their pattern.

4.4 is being pushed to AOSP right now - my guess is that the GNex will have a ROM in the next day or two.

I hope the G2 isn't far behind. I just want a simple AOSP build with no extras. This thing will probably FLY with stock Android on it.

As much as I'd like to see KK on my G2, I imagine it'll be bloated and full of their skin. At the same time, I'm really just happy where it is. If I was running something AOSP, perhaps I'd be more interested, but now, I'll just roll with it until it happens. :)

Plus it's not like the FCC is doing anything helpful when it comes to Verizon. Going on 13 weeks since Nexus 7 LTE released, and still no go on Verizon.

Don't worry the new head of the FCC will right the ship

On a lighter note, it seems that we will slowly get added convenience to our lives via mobile payments. I have used Google wallet to pay for some things and Amazon payments for others, and both experiences were extremely user friendly, fast and easy.

Oh and sad news about the Gnex today. RIP, we loved yooouuuuuz.

Does anyone here know if it's possible to daisy-chain wifi repeaters? I mean, does each one have to pair with the router, or can one amplify the signal to reach the other one?

Should be, but you might be better off with a different configuration. What are you trying to accomplish? Do you mean dedicated WiFi repeaters? Or using a router/ap and setting it into repeater mode? Custom firmware? Where are you trying to get signal? Any option for running ethernet?

I always had hellish time using routers/ap as repeaters. Device hand-off was not very good and they ended up interfering with each other (same channel).

It's entirely possible (probable) I was using bad equipment or had it set up wrong though.

Well, my n repeater performs admirably connected to our ac router but I don't know that it will throw far enough.

Here's the scenario:

The kind, little old lady across the street, a dear neighbor, has daughters who bought her a laptop of all things. Poor woman isn't even sure how to turn it on! Anyway: rather than her pay for cable internet that (a) she really can't afford and (b) won't use much, I had the brainstorm of letting her use OUR wifi. But the signal won't reach across the street.

So MY plan is to put a repeater in my garage, as close to her house as possible... and put another repeater in her house, as close to my garage as possible. The plan is that after connecting both repeaters to the router one time, I can put the repeaters in place and then she can connect to her repeater, which will connect to my repeater, which is connected to the router.

Only one way to find out! I already have one repeater... I can order an identical repeater used for $30 shipped. It's cheaper than paying out $40-$60 a month for her to have internet. And then I can start giving her lessons on how to work a laptop and use the internet to look at the antiques and collectibles she loves so dearly.

What do you think? :)

I think you are a scholar and a gentleman!

What repeater are you using now?

I'd say go for it. The worst that could happen is you have a backup repeater :)

Chief, I have two of these range extenders:

I discovered that they cannot be connected in series, so I just put the router in the middle and placed the extenders on the left and right perimeters. I doubt any can work in series. However, having moved from that location, I have no need for them and would gladly contribute one or both to your admirable cause. Maybe one will reach across the street from your garage. Having one installed in her house I don't think will help. Let me know and I can ship them out tomorrow.
