Are you growing a Movember moustache?

I wish I could but cant do it, job doesnt allow it

I spent years doing consultancy for Gillette and had a full beard the entire time :D

Slightly ironically, I was the first person in Asia to have a Mach 3 as I happened to be in the Boston office the week it was released in the US. Probably just as well I had a beard as it only came with 3 blades ;)

whats the deal with this no shaving thing? Why not make some better and more useful movement. Like Strava has right now. Ride 40 hours in 3 weeks, that sounds like fun, and not shaving for a month make most look like bums. I guess its ok because most younger individuals choose "complete dip sh*t" brand of clothing anyway. lol

It's not about not shaving, it's about being sponsored to grow a mo' .. but you're totally right about those young whipper snappers - should be a crime to leave the house without being correctly suited and booted: 3 piece suit, tie (fastened with a WINDSOR knot) and brogues (black). Even for sport. And regardless of weather.

Have a beard now for 35 years. If I shaved it off, nobody would recognize me, which is what I'm counting on.

Odd you should say that. Our son was told in no uncertain terms to wear a suit to any job interview, even if it was for slinging ice cream at a carnival stand. He's been gainfully employed since graduating college. :D

Funnily enough, I don't think I've ever worn a suit to a job interview. Part of being an academic really - nobody would believe I'd ever wear one again anyway ;)

(Though actually I did give a lecture wearing one last year, but that was because I was going to a funeral immediately afterwards. Should have at least worn the Converse with it though!)

.. if they'd have told me that at school, I might have tried harder

In most companies I know - even those who obsess about creating an uber-cool and casual image - arriving at an interview without a suit means you're leaving without a job. Simple as .. It's a respect thing.

My missus turned away a guy with 2 masters from Ivy League / Oxbridge schools and an MBA, partly because he didn't wear a suit. Where she works, you're essentially expected to enslave yourself to the company: if you not even prepared to wear are suit to an interview are you really going to sell your soul for the peanuts they pay interns?

Personally, I don't much mind a suit for an interview - I hate having to wear them for the actual job. It's not like I'm customer facing these days .. well, except in so far as the company's my customer coz I'm a consultant ..

I hate casual Fridays. To me it's simply unprofessional. The only time I will "dress down" is when I have to fight the weather (snow, usually) or I have to spend the day working in our warehouses troubleshooting their IT.
