Root [Virgin Mobile] No Streaming on 4G LTE

For the past couple weeks, I cannot stream any video on my Victory through 4G LTE. I can surf web pages, but anything involving YouTube (through a browser or the app) fails to load. It remains stuck on the loading video screen. I can stream on 3G, but the speeds are slow.

I have a friend with a VM Victory as well, and when we are in the exact same area, he has no issues streaming video over LTE, while I cannot stream any video.

Both our phones are running stock and are rooted. Both are running the VaeVictus 0.3.1 kernal.

The differences are:

Baseband version:
Me (no streaming): L300VPAMG5
Friend (yes streaming): L300VPAMC1

Build number (see baseband)

PRL Version:
Me: 33030
Friend: 31104

YouTube version:
Me: 5.2.27
Friend: 4.5.17

I've called Virgin Mobile and they did some PRL and Profile updates, but still no luck. They said there's Network Vision stuff happening in my area and that's likely why it isn't working, but that doesn't explain why my friend has no issues with his LTE.

I tried to get my MSL code in order to change some of the phone's proxy settings, but the VM Support refused to give me the code. They did say they would "credit me for the inconvenience".

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do?

I assume my account is messed up in some way since I also get gibberish texts from an 8737 number while also having my texts to other people being sent repeatedly 4-5 times. Virgin Mobile Support isn't much help. My next steps are to likely do a full reset back to stock, unroot and use the stock kernal again.

If that doesn't work, I'm tempted to switch providers after 10 years at VM.

VM will give you the msl, just keep trying. Tell them you need it to reset your phone. If not ask for a supervisor. I also had problems with my phone sending repeated text and receiving repeated text, but when I wiped system and formatted data and installed a new ROM it started working again just fine. I believe someone found a way to get the msl another way and updated prl manually with CDMA workshop. It's in the forums before all things root

I can't help with the rest, but I also had problems with gibberish texts like you're getting. A little research lead me to find the texts were might likely due to having a third party texting app installed and then doing a reactivation on my phone to reconnect it to the network. Sorry that I don't have the links handy, but I seem to remember reading that the texts were some kind of internal app communication that mistakenly shows as an outside text in certain circumstances. It was definitely annoying as they showed up pretty regularly for a while.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the 3rd party texting app finally helped in my case.

Your post says for th e past few weeks so question 1

1.Have you hit a new billing cycle ? that would rule out throttle ( good suggestion Madbat)
2. Have you tried streaming music or audio from another site like iheart radio or godvine. This would narrow it down to youtube specifically. if its only youtube i would try clearing the cache on the youtube app first but if you can answer those 2 we will go from there.

I'm should not be throttled because I've only use 500MB of data for the month so far.

Other apps, like Pandora, do work.

I have actually managed to fix the problem, by uninstalling the updates to YouTube so that it reverts back to the one that came with the stock ROM. Now I have no problem streaming through YouTube. I can assume it was an app problem.

Vm doesnt throttle down the 4g.

Really? I thought they were supposed to after like 2.5gb. I havent been with virgin that long. I was on metro but moved to New Orleans and no 4g. so I switched. of course now they merged with tmobile and now theres 4g here. smh

Yep, really. Moved from an evo to the victory a couple months ago. Get great strong LTE around Knoxville. Almost 4GB so far this month on LTE, no throttle.

Edit: Speedtest results too for Knoxville area.

So VM will still throttle 3g?? Because I thought they throttled 4g to 2.5Gb but I guess not :/
I was definitely being throttled on my evo on 3G, yes. Always got the text that you've gone over data limit and speeds will be throttled until next billing cycle. I've never been throttled on 4G on my victory. Just checked my logs, used 5.2GB last month with no throttle on 4G.

They definitely throttled my 3G this month. That's what I get for tethering my laptop at work and updating a 2.1GB game patch :D

Didn't know about 4G. Interesting.

I grab a TV show or two daily at work to watch during lunch plus iheartradio all day to the tune of about 8 gigs a week all 4g never throttled plus I tether a lot tobsons laptop and iPod guess imnjust lucky every where I go ihave 4g

My 4G has never been throttled yet either. I'm averaging 6 GB or so a month - which I didn't realize until I checked my data stats recently, because I've never gotten a warning message. Definitely going to enjoy it as long as it lasts!

Before tethering, I would download at least 10 - 25 gbs of torrents and music a month. Now, with the help of Treve's mod, I've doubled that... No throttling at all. I don't use the little safety proxy app thingy but hey :/

Appears that based on this text I just got, 4G LTE throttling is on the way. Here's the text:

VMFreeMsg: Effective 1/31/14, data speeds may be
reduced once you use 2.5GB for 3G and/or 4G LTE data usage in your plan month. More info: http://msg4u.us/vmdt

They sent me the 3g throttle message once... But after I went past 2.5 , nothing happened. In my defense, it was a long road trip and I needed Netflix lol.

Lol. Netflix shouldn't count. Its a necessity. Torrents over 4g is a bit excessive. If you don't have WiFi at home, you can do your downloading at panera or McDonald's. Our 4g network is already clogged up with us VM ppl plus sprint and ...ugh, boost ppl. Lmao

Funny thing. My Victory phone has been off for over three months (off as in I broke the contact) and I still get 4G data. Can't make calls but it's just as fast as it always was. I was using it to tether just a few minutes ago. Weird or no? Maybe it's because I flashed some modern a few months ago?

Nice. Hope it lasts. Might have to flash me some modems before I shut down my virgin account lol
