How long until promotions start?

The SMART30 code craziness today made me wonder, how soon will Verizon start running other promotions for the Incredible? How long did it take them to do BOGO or $99 offers for the DROID?

I want to get my phone as cheap as possible, but as a 3rd line on a family plan Verizon doesn't tend to offer me deals. I noticed Wirefly had their price set at $149.99 to start sales Thursday. Will it be a long time before Verizon drops the price?

Damn California for their tax on the full price of $529, that has really kept me from ordering when the tax is $50 instead of $20 or even $10 back home in VA where I first got this account.

That would really piss me off. But I guess you guys are like the most bankrupt state in the country so it makes sense.

Yeah that definitely sucks. I live in California too and got ass-raped by that $50 tax.

As for sales on the Incredible, I doubt any time soon. Maybe in 4-6 months?

Yeah, it is made worse knowing if I was still in VA I'd get it for $40 less! I figured the wait was pretty long for the DROID discounts but couldn't remember to use it as an reference. I guess the real question is if Wirefly is worth the wait/effort to save 50 bucks.

Wait I'm confused... has something changed in California where they will tax the entire $529 instead of taxing the $199.00 (instant rebate) or $299.00 (mail-in-rebate)? I'm from LA but haven't spent much time there the past few years since I study in Indiana.

Droid came out around Nov. Their BOGO occured last month.. so I guess you could use that as a reasonable timetable for the Incredible.

Did you try using the 30 dollars off coupon code that VZW has? Some people said it worked for them, even though they were not new customers. That may offset the 50 dollars in tax.

Not sure about online purchases, as this will be my first that actually incorporates a mail-in-rebate. However, as far as i know with B&M stores, it has. I remember in the past, going into stores like Best Buy/Circuit City/CompUSA/etc. on Black Friday, and being charged the full amount + tax on the full amount, before being handed the mail-in-rebate.

Well I understand that. Are you upgrading your phone or signing up as a new Verizon customer to get the discounted price? You shouldn't be charged for $529 if you aren't even paying for that at all. I understand paying the tax on $299 and then sending -$100 but I don't understand why you would get a tax on $529 if you aren't even paying that amount. That's not even logical.

I'm upgrading. Yeah, alot of things don't make sense in this economy.. but what can we small peons do right?:(

I'm assuming because the phone value is still 529.99 regardless of what I'm paying (if you think about it, then yes, technically VZW is covering part of the cost, which does not devalue the phone from its 529.99 price tag)

I'm pretty sure Wirefly doesn't charge sales tax on their orders to CA so that's one way to save some money, plus another $50 if the earlier "leak" turns out to be accurate. Got to keep the phone 6 months or it will cost you a lot more.

Has been like this in California for quite a while now.

I don't know if this is nationwide but a store near my house has a sign for BOGO on Droids. And its not old because they took the sign down from last month, put somethin else up, and now its back. You may want to call and check.

This is what is says in the Verizon fine print -
*Total Due Today does not include taxes, which will be added after you enter a shipping address. In California, sales tax is calculated on the full retail price of the device, not the discounted price you pay. In Nevada, sales tax is calculated on the inventory cost of the device.
I have no clue why they do it that way, but they do tax based on the 529 not the 199. I'm upgrading a line so the $30 discount today wouldn't work and the CSRs were no help. I was ready to order right away if it had worked. :(

I feel your pain. I just coughed up the extra $50, as much as it hurts. I want my phone!

Hmm... must have been after I got the first Blackberry Storm. I don't ever remember paying a $50 tax for that device because I wouldn't definitely noticed that while paying for the phone with my own money.

Where did you see that Wirefly has listed $149.99? If you want to purchase through Wirefly, make sure you check Bing cashback too, it gives $50 cash back. So that would make it $100 getting the phone from Wirefly.

Wirefly had it posted at $149 about 4-5 days ago but took the price down 24 hours later. I'm betting Verizon pressured them to not show a price until Thursday. Thanks for the note about Bing.

This happened when I bought my Samsung Omnia. Within a week of buying it at ~$200, they lowered the price to $99. I was able to bring in my receipt, and they credited my account for the price drop.

They told me that if this ever happens when I purchase a phone, I can do this within 30 days of buying it. So if they lower the price within 30 days (which they definitely will not right after a launch), you can bring in your receipt and get a credit for the discount. For the record, I'm referring to RETAIL price, not discounts.

It's not uncommon for VZW to actually raise the price of phones that are out of promotion periods too, so it may even go up in price later in the year.

How exactly does bing cashback work for wirefly?

I've been investigating it for the past few minutes, and when I go to the list of stores for bing cashback, I don't see wirefly.

Bing shopping

Definitely interested in using it, though.

Thanks

For an example, go to Bing shopping and search for "Motorola Droid", on the right hand side the first result is for Wirefly, and it has the Bing cashback logo. Click on the Bing Cashback link and you'll go to Wirefly with the $50 cashback logo at the top of the screen.

Now, since we don't want the Droid, don't go any further that that today but tomorrow you might be able to search for the Incredible in Bing shopping and find Wirefly but if not, then use the above to get the cashback in your shopping car but change phones to the one we want.

Hope that helps.

If the Wirefly price is 149 tomorrow, it will work out to be a $99 purchase plus the $35 activation fee and whatever next-day shipping is. Quite a saving over the 199 pre-order plus 40 CA sales tax :)

I totally don't get wirefly when I do what you just said.. I get wirester.com, iSaleProducts, CompUPlus, Electronica Direct, etc.. but nothing with wirefly.

I wonder if bing filters results based on something that I/we aren't aware of.

Weird! So I go to:

Bing shopping

type "Motorola Droid" in the search box and I get Wirefly as the first item on the right.
