It kinda does look like Bill!!!

Cool site.

This was on the border of their page:

I wonder if this is a real phone? It looks cool. Maybe it is just a cool prototype to make their site look cooler. The speaker grille is reminiscent of the Evo, but it says AT&T on the screen.

BOOOOO!! for AT&T.

Somehow that made me lol. Oh, and welcome, 'ThatNewAndroidGuy'.

I just wonder what you'll do when you've had the EVO for a while and won't be so new anymore, will you make a new name sorta like 'ThatNotSoNewAndroidGuy'

Makes me wish I hadn't signed on to the forums yet so my name could be 'ThatNewerAndroidGuy'

That was posted dozens of pages ago in here :(.

So like yesterday... in this thread.:D

How about this Hummingbird vs. Snapdragon: The 1 GHz Smartphone Showdown | AlienBabelTech

Prob. posted back in Jan. from inside source :D but this article claims other info was incorrect.

With all the new tech hitting over the next 6 mo. I'm wondering how many of us will be wishing our EVO weighed less. The weight of that Samsung is considerably less.

I like the EVO better, just saying once we put that big 5000 mAh batt. on it ;)

i said it before and i'll say it again. i'm not too fond of samsung products. it seems that spec-wise, their products are great, but when you actually get around to owning it and using it, you see where they cut corners to make them so affordable.

and i've mostly heard good things about htc so far. worst i've heard was the screen on the nexus one and the multi-touch issues....but the evo got the newer screen which doesn't have those issues =)

not to mention 4g =)

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee............

Yes, I find myself fighting not to log on as well. I think the excitement for EVO's release is overwhelming and don't want to miss a joicy nugget of EVO info. I am sure it is the same for everyone else on the EVO thread. I am not sure what everyone else favorite feature of EVO will be? I am looking forward to signing up for the Hotspot feature and running 4G on all my wifi toys. I guess playing HDMI output on HD tv is going to be cool as well. I think there is so many half we prolly don't even know about yet..Muwahaha!!

That is a very good article that I posted a while back. One of the most thorough comparisons I could find on the web - and it was just a blog from some random dude. It looks like it was so good that AlienBabelTech made a deal with the original writer Sean "ElectroFreak" to feature it on their site to get it some more publicity. This is the most revised version of his article as you mentioned.

I didn't notice the weights listed before.
The weights they listed are not incredibly different, only different by like 50 grams ~ .1 pounds (Galaxy 118g vs. Evo 170g). The best real life example I could find on the net was that a CD in jewel case with CD and Art in it weighs approximately 60 grams. Its hard to compare their weight in grams in my little brain so I need reference items.

More reference:
The HTC HD2 weighs 157 grams
A 120 GB Ipod Classic weighs 181 grams

I would carry a cement brick around all day with me if it did everything the Evo is supposed to do. The weight is quite interesting to compare, but in no way is it a deal breaker in my opinion.

The Evo vs. Galaxy S battle will continue to be waged over the next months because they are the 2 heaviest hitters right now in my opinion (excluding Apple, we don't count them :D). It is a great article, but the proof will be in the pudding and I cant wait to see them next to each other for a true comparison in final form. I think that the Samsung numbers are going to prove slightly misleading, and the Evo will surprise even Sean the "ElectroFreak" in the end (he seemed slightly biased towards the Galaxy based upon the preliminary specs regarding the CPU/GPU's).

BlueScreen, Buddy, what do you make of the Samsung processor numbers? Can you enlighten us on the 'triangle polygon' processor tests?

I agree, I returned my Samsung Moment (30-day) after seeing EVO on here. SM was a fine product, but it did come with some issues. USB posting to PC was a major one and getting the PC to reckonize the Micro-SD card was the other. I enjoyed SM, but not as much as were all going to enjoy EVO 4g.

I can't believe have to type this a second time, ROFL. PSU on PC is going out from spending to much time on this EVO thread, PC reboots..Frustrating.

I'll make this quick...I agree the article appears to be biased toward Samsung Galaxy.(alot)

I am a micro-processor design engineer, lithography, metal etch. "I figure out how to make processors smaller/faster" PC procs and Cell Phone procs are to completely different animals. I have seen both under a microscope at extreme magnification and cell procs look weird. Okay that being said.
The "Triangle Polygon Test" is a function of GPU it's ability to render objects at certain speeds. (More Later) CPU performance is measured in MIPS "Millions of instructions per second" or in FLOPS "floating point operations per second" Unfortunately that article did not cover that. "Too Bad" I think the Snapdragon proc would have owned. Back to polygon test, interestingly the Snapdragon GPU is integrated into CPU core. Galaxy has a dedicated GPU. "Hence the strange 90 MTPS score" With integrated GPU instruction sets are sent more effectually and require only the power of the cpu to run. Having a dedicated GPU is good as long as it is Uber GPU, but your stuck providing dedicated power to it as well. "I think the need for the AMOLED screen" This is inefficient way for instruction sets to transfer as they have to be sent back and forth across PCB board "Motherboard" I would have to give Qualcom "FTW Award" in efficiency for micro architectural design.
In conclusion, I feel that explains the odd 90 MTPS score on the Galaxy. Testing just the GPU independently w/no real world CPU utilization. I am not wrong in saying that, we have seen Samsung Galaxy vids and the screen appears to be laggy. (Specially during swipes) I feel, if the 90 MTPS score was to hold water..their simply would be no lag at those speeds..I call BS on that test score and think EVO will be spunkier and come with a better battery life. Hope that helps..need to cut this short before my pc reboots..Getting new power supply tomorrow..heh.

Whew,
p.s. please forgive the typos, had to rush it.

Let just say I am a micro-processor design, engineer lithography, metal etch. I figure out how to shrink processors and make them faster.

PC processors and Cell Phone processors are two completely different kinds of animals.
I have seen both under microscope at very high power and cell processors look weird. Okay that being said:

Unfortunately that article did not cover that. I Don't know why. I think the Snapdragon proc would have owned.

The Galaxy has a dedicated GPU. This is probably how they get the ridiculous statistic of 90 MTPS.

With an integrated GPU, instruction sets are sent more effectually and require only the power of the cpu to run.

Having a dedicated GPU is good as long as it is Uber GPU but your stuck providing dedicated power to it as well. I think this is why they had the need for the Super AMOLED screen.

Also, this is an inefficient way for the instruction set to be transferred as they have to be sent back and forth across PBC board - The Motherboard. Instructions have to travel, adding the opportunity for confusion and lag.

I would have to give Qualcomm (FTW) the award in efficiency for micro architectural design.

In conclusion I feel that explains the ridiculous 90 MTPS score on the Galaxy. They tested Just the GPU independently w/no real CPU utilization.

I don't think I am wrong because we have seen some Samsung Galaxy Vids on here before and the screen appears to be laggy.

Thanks buddy!

I hope you don't mind, I rewrote your message in my quotation so that it made more sense and was more legible. I hope that I didn't mis-quote you or change the meaning of your message. Let me know, I can always edit it back if needed.

Sorry for all your PC troubles. I appreciate that you stuck it out an posted though, that's dedication! I value your opinion greatly.

I love the fact that you can give a professional & 'scholarly' opinion on the matter based upon your credentials (assuming that they are true). What you have described is basically about the same thing I have been thinking, minus the technical aspects that I don't have the knowledge to piece together.

I think that you really hit the nail on the head though, and your view basically seals the deal for me that the Evo will probably be better overall than the Galaxy-S (let's hope anyway). As I suspected, there has been vast speculation out there on the net about how "the CPU of the Galaxy-S is 4 times faster than the Snapdragon", but I believe that it has been misrepresented since the test they performed was more or less a test of the GPU rather than the CPU.

Now that I have a better grasp on the situation, I wonder does Dedicated GPU provide any benefit versus Integrated GPU?
Could it be that it somehow provides a better frame-rate per second?
Or maybe it could help during HD video playback or graphical gaming? - They say that it is supposed to be a good "gaming" phone...
Mind you, probably at the cost of battery power. They may save battery power by having a Super AMOLED but then they turn around and use more power to push out the graphics?

This stuff is a big deal when it comes to laptops and phones since they don't have as dedicated a power source compared to a PC/desktop.

Wow this thread moves to fast. Especially since I can't check it during the day... My anticipation for this phone is extreme to say the least. I can't wait! This is worse than when I was waiting to pick up my Hero.

On that note, I've been bugging Bill via PM about more solid information on how apps and data will or won't transfer to our new EVO's. Does anyone else have more info on this? We don't know if the market keeps downloaded app info (free and paid) so you can just re-download on your new phone or not.

On another note for those of you (I know a few around here) around Springfield, MO we should have a weekend EVO meet and greet since we aren't getting an special pre launch events. BTW I live in Rogersville. :)

Wow, I had never looked into/thought about the weight... 170 g sounds so heavy... Lol. My current phone weighs 4.94 ounces, compared to the 6 of the evo, and with the 3.1" screen, to me feels cheaply made. The same reason remotes are weighted, kind of, because if they weigh nothing, people think they're broken... The evo is noticeably thinner and obviously larger surface area, so will probably feel solid, dense, and perfect. Then again, doing tire changes with tires that weigh 120 lbs plus all day, anything seems light... Lol. Off to work, let's see how many pages I'll have to read through come 5:30.
