Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

I just installed the new 2.1 leak and then swype lite, but i cannot get the swype keyboard to come up for anything except in the tuturial for swype in the settings.

I enabled swype in settings>languange and keyboard>swype

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks!

Long press in the text input box. Input method should pop up, select Swype.

After reading the last few pages of this thread, I have a minor rant: a lot of people seem to think that if you have a problem -- any problem -- on a 2.1 phone, it's automatically 2/1's fault. But that's not how cause-and-effect works!

I swear, I'll log on here one of these days and read a post by somebody who installed 2/1 and then saw his cat get hit by a car ... and is blaming a software leak for the flattened cat.

Agree--since 2.1 v2 upgrade, performed on my phone and 3 other phones in my family, the phones work better, faster, more reliably and more powerfully (i.e. navigation, gesture search, HTC notes, etc.) I'm glad I didn't wait for what might be a non-existent OTA update some time in the future.

Over all I am not impressed. The phone over all seems slower, the browser seems faster, regular usage is kind of slow. The dialer is super sensitive. I have watch very carefully when I hit the home, menu, back, or search. If I dont I am dialing someone at random. The new market is snazzy.

Over all I think if I could go back I would and I would keep waiting. Just to glitchy still for my tastes. If you are debating the switch... I would wait but that is just my opinion.

Just thought I would pass this word on. I called Verizon today hoping to find someone that would replace my phone because I am sick of the bugs in the 2.1 leak. They didn't, but they did pass me on to HTC who told me the Official OTA 2.1 release will overwrite my current 2.1 leak.

Also, they had me do a Factory Data Reset which has fixed several of the bugs I was dealing with. The most obvious one was that now downloading more HTC Widgets works.

For me the extra sensitivity of the four main buttons is a feature, not a bug. Their lack of sensitivity was something that bothered me in 1.5. I often had to press them multiple times to make them register, and always with the pad of my thumb instead of my fingertip.

what version of a 2.1 leak is this? What version are 'we' up to now? Can you provide the version info from the about phone in settings? Can you provide a link to the download if this is v3 of the leak?

There are only two versions of the "official" leak; the more recent one is 2.26.605.4. I think when people are talking about v3, they're really talking about root.

Thank you foer the info. Thought I had missed a new leak (funny how mentions of or enen rumors of a leaked v3 excite me more than talk about the real 2.1 coming in our lifetime..lol).:D

2.26.604.4 is the version I am using and it is horridly buggy and "unsmooth".

So far it has not been a good experience. The dialer is buggy as heck, the actual home, menu, back, and search are buggy, sometimes I have to hit them 5 or 6 times to work, then when you do the dialer opens. It is just not a pleasant experience.

I concur, I just reloaded this version again and doing a few tests today and tomorrow, if it acts up I'm rolling back to leak v1, only thing that sucked there was the gmail log in issue, other than that it ran great. v2 is just not making me happy, if I had insurance i would have ran this thing over with my truck ust for fun ;)

I hear ya. :)

And peoples' experiences are always different, but for me the .4 version of the leak is pretty much flawless. For people who are having problems, I'd strongly advise looking for apps that might be misbehaving. And for the dialer lag, trimming the call history can work wonders.

LOL... I have insurance on my phone. I tend to drop them a lot, usually into a liquid of some type.

Wonder how the insurance works. Can I get credit towards say... an incredible? or do I just get another eris?

In only have 6 non default apps installed.

Pandora
Astro file manager
Ontrack Diabetes monitor
Zedge ringtones and wallpaper
Mabilo Ringtones
Mabilo Wallpaper

The dialer lag is not lag pressing buttons. It is laggy just opening, has been since I updated and there were no calls logged.
I am just saying I am not happy with the 2.1 experience yet.

can someone help me out here if they are experiencing decent battery life and have spare parts installed, go into the sensor usage portion and see if your android system is using the sensor more than the phone is actually awake? my phone right now is showing that "android system" has been using the sensor for 2hrs 14min but my phones total awake time is a few minutes behind that, i've noticed this number on mine were its been as high as 3x the awake time? and the little bar would be solid blue today is better but quickly overtook awake time. I wanna know if this is the cause of my crap battery life, or just a glitch in spare parts, since battery is ok today but the little blue bar is only about a quarter "full". thanx in advance!

I'm on leak 2 with decent battery life (16hrs w/ moderate use), unplugged my phone 180 minutes ago, sensor usage by android system is 37 minutes, awake time is 33 minutes.

Sweet man thanks! I was trying to determine battery, app or what. Stock battery today was fine with nothing installed. I'll put monster battery in tomorrow and see, if the battery is good, then figure out which app was driving up sensor usage. I still don't get how the sensor can be used when phone is sleeping but at least now I know it isn't just me.

I am a newbie and have a couple questions. Is dragging the 2.1 image file to the SD card the same as rooting? If not, what are the differences/advantages between the two. Also, will the official Verizon file work if I proceed to install the leaked version? If not, will it be possible to downgrade to the original 1.5 firmware and THEN receive Verizon's push? I'm sure that these questions have been addressed in other posts, but I am 1) too busy to search through them all and 2) not smart enough to decipher some of the lingo. Thanks for the help.

No, using the leaked 2.1 image is not rooting your phone.

Most people are speculating that the OTA update will work on the leaked versions.

As of right now it is not possible to downgrade to 1.5 from one of the leaks.
:)

Thanks for the input. What is the difference between this process and rooting? Also, how does one go about updating this version in the future?

Not sure if this has been answered already or if this question belongs here, but,

If i update to leaked 2.1 v2 will i be able to get the Google navigation app?
