Root *****10/4/13*****New OTA DO NOT DOWNLOAD IF YOU'RE ROOTED

After you disable the autoupdate, if you click on the notification itself, it will give you the option to download the update or snooze the notification--you know what to do.

This didn't seem to work for me--when I tapped the notification tab for the update, the only two choices were whether I downloaded in via any available connection, or wifi/cable only.....

Ok, after un-checking the box in the HTC system updates panel and then restarting the phone, no more system notification update queries in the notifications bar.....

well to get rid of it completely, you can just flash a custom rom. all of the roms i have flashed all have the update notification disabled.

Hey y'all
Haven't been on in a while.
With the new radios can I flash them with older baseband of 1.12.11.119. I have meanbean updated build 3.16.651.3.
Hboot is 1.12.2222. Didn't see the need to update that.

I have my evo4glte rooted and I downloaded the 3.17.651.4 update but have not installed it. Could you help me?

My tether is not working now but I can just re-root the phone. What I need to know is will installing this update hinder my phone from what I will be able to do with my phone rooted?

If it will hurt my phone, is there any way of deleting the download so that it stops telling me that the update is ready to install?

If this update is ok to install, what are the steps needed before I install the update?

Thank you in advance,
Donnie

You're still unlocked so you can root again by installing SuperSU again - or, just flash the stock rooted rom if you don't want anything more advanced. Personally that's what I'd recommend.

Your best bet is get s-off and don't bother with over the air updates any more. Please see our other sticky threads for more details.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Never accept an ota while you are rooted........this is a good habit to do when you are rooted and you can apply this to all future devices going forward.

All you need to do is flash the stock rooted rom that has the ota cooked in.

If you flash a stock rom make sure to uncheck the check for updates in your phone's setting. This way you will not get that message again.

Thanks for the info. Ok I think I want to just flash a stock rooted rom and get s-off as you suggested. Where can I find the correct links to do this?

I apologize in advance as I have done all of my own rooting of phones but only to just use tethering. Any farther than that, I am clueless about. I was trying to look through the sticky's but did not see what I think I need. I am not on the forums as much as you experts are.

well first off you can go here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html

check out the shipped roms and i think captain throwback has the current stock rooted rom (3.17)

also this one seems promising:
[ROMs][SharkieROM-LTE v2.5.1 S-ON - 10/4/13][ Stock 3.17.651.4 Rooted-10/8/13 ] - xda-developers

or if you are feeling adventurous i would recommend that you try viper.....it is sense, but with way more customizations. it is found in the first link i gave you.

before you flash a rom, make sure to make a nandroid backup.

if you do not know how to make or how to flash a rom then check out the second post from here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/605567-ltevo-rooting-dummies-complete-guide.html

I really appreciate that info. I am going to look this information up so that I can get back on my EVO lte and off of my old and tired shift!

Much and greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do like some of the custom roms but I really just want a rooted s-off stock rom for now. I want to keep all my data if possible.

What I really like my phone to be able to do/have is tether, good reception, be stable and the best battery life possible.

I am not that adventurous right now as I use my phone to tether my laptop when I am on the road for business. Don't want to brick it..just need it to work right.

Since my phone is technically still rooted, do I really have to flash it to a stock rooted rom?

Does the stock rooted rom have s-off?

Again...thanks in advance
Donnie

you do not have to be s-off to flash a stock rooted rom, but s-off does have some advantages.......mainly upgrading or downgrading firmware.

viper works and it is probably the more popular rom save for the new kitkat roms coming out.

and bricking is really hard to do, especially when flashing roms.

So i guess what I HAVE to do is flash a rom regardless? Of course first it seems that I need to do a nandroid backup, right? then need to clear google wallet? and then flash the stock rooted rom (or viper I guess)?

After all of this, I can get s-off I assume. I really used to be into to this stuff with my 6700 and mogul! (so long ago!)

Just want to make sure I get it right

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

The s-off guys are picky about others dispensing advice, and we respect that, but we're happy to give help with the overall and the setup and that's usually enough for the vast majority of cases.

In our thread, we link to the various sites for each supported s-off, please be sure to review the one that applies to you (ask us if you're unsure which, let us know your rom version, baseband and hboot version) and double check what they require at their site.

Bottom line, it's really the same as it ever was, exactly as you've been through before, after the right setup, you press a button or two and get s-off.

After that you can update everything, including your radio firmware, without messing with an OTA.

Ok about to do all of this that you two experts instructed me to do. One question is does the nandroid backup everything including text messages?

Once again...thanks!!!

Yeah I figured it did. I have done my backup. I believe I will just do the stock rooted rom that you sent me the link for. Do I really need to superwipe?

Or could I just uninstall superuser and reinstall like EarlyMon was saying?

It is optional....up to you......I do it, but EM does not.....main thing is not to just rely on it to wipe for you....you need to wipe in addition to using super wipe......but I did say it was optional in the guide.
