Cracked screen and unresponsive digitizer on 2013 N7

You're talking about $150 if you buy the parts and do it yourself (which I wouldn't recommend unless you've worked on these things before - it takes practicing on a lot of broken devices before you learn to do it right), and probably more than a new one if you have someone do it for you.

So the answer to your question is "probably not".

Thanks for the help. :)

I dont know how the n7 display is constructed bro. Couldnt you replace the outer glass and the digitizer without having to buy a new LCD?
Or have a look for someone selling a bricked one with perfect display :-)

Well I got the ifixit app and they do a teardown of the N7. It looks like the glass is attached to the digitizer, so I'd have to buy the whole thing. It also looks like its pretty easy to work on. But I'll bet the digitizer and glass replacement are expensive. I'll have to look on eBay and see if there are replacements being sold. :)

For .99 Cents In ebay ?
its a good pretty deal
but fixing it wont be a good deal

i suggest not to,

best wishes

99 cents in an auction format might just as well mean $99 when it ends, so nothing to get excited about, unless you do not know how ebay works.

Just yesterday I picked up my N7 where it was sitting on it's Qi charger and noticed a crack going down the left 20% of the screen in portrait mode. I've never dropped my N7 so don't know how it got cracked. I looked into replacing the LCD & digitizer but found it cost about $150 for just the parts. Since I have the 16G model and can replace it for around $200 I feel that's too much so would replace it rather than repair.

Interestingly, the tablet works fine other than everything to the left of the crack being unresponsive. I can use the tablet as is, just needed to re-add icons for 2 apps that were to the left of the crack on my Home screen. I'll probably run into other issues later. For instance, the icons for apps in the app drawer that are on the left will be a problem.

Can't you just rotate the N7 when you need to access the apps on the left, so they'll be on the uncracked portion of the screen?

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I have to do to work around that part of the screen that is non-responsive. Unfortunately, the Home screens and the app drawer screens don't rotate.

I run into times when I want the home screen to rotate on my S4, and it doesn't. Ridiculous.

Mine just slipped out of my hands and landed face down. Spider webbed the screen. It looks like you can get the LCD screen and digitizer with a little tool kit for like a hundred dollars. Versus over 200 for a new one.

Can you post a link to the source for the LCD screen and digitizer? When I looked I couldn't find something in that price range.

I think that $100 is for the screen only not the complete assembly. From what I saw the whole assembly is the same price as a complete new tablet.

Yes, that looks like the complete assembly. Who will be the first to order it and report back their experience with it? Madbat?

I'm going to order it this coming Friday when I get paid (too many bills this week).
I've been watching videos on how to disassemble it. Pretty involved. Seems like the hard part is going to be getting the plasic outer rim off of the LCD digitizer assembly. I'll report back when its done.

Good luck fixing it Madbat and strollin, in general I do believe buying another one is a better choice since the deals like the one Madbat received is hard to come over.

I also need help, I think my nexus 7 battery is damaged or defective of some sort, read my thread and hope you guys can help me out.

The deal linked to by Madbat is still out there so the finding part was already done by him. I wonder if he ordered it like he said he was going to?

I'm reluctant to go forward with this because, although my screen is cracked, the tablet is still usable except for about 15% of my screen.

Mak916 posted a link in another thread to a deal for a refurbished 16G 2nd Gen N7 for $169 which is very tempting.

So you installed the new screen/digitizer and it is working fine? Would you recommend it to others? Any gotchas?
