Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I really disagree with this old argument. You can't forget that these things are staggered all through the year and it's not really fair to judge a company by its offerings when we are weeks away from a refresh.

Last summer, the Pre was the only phone with the same CPU and similar specs to the iPhone. Then the Hero came out on Sprint first. Then Sprint got the Moment which was the fastest Android phone. Then Verizon got Droid. Then T-Mo got the Nexus One. Then last week Verizon got the Incredible. Then in June we will get the Evo. I'm not event counting the other phones like HD2, Pixi, Touch Pro 2, etc. that came out staggered on other carriers as well as Sprint.

My point is that over the course of the year there are tons of releases on pretty much all the carriers. Being on top with the fastest this or the newest that one month doesn't mean that you will still be on top in 2-3 months. Likewise, just because a carrier has gone a quarter or a half without a groundbreaking release doesn't mean they have been severely lacking in good handsets. Hero is a good phone. Moment is a good phone. Pre is a good phone. No they are not the top of the pack anymore but to say that Sprint has been severely lacking misses that fact that 6 months ago they had some of the best phones on the market. Just because you didn't choose them doesn't mean others also did not.

I've been on Sprint for years and never lacked for a decent smart phone ever since I got my first Treo.

I have to disagree, sprint hasn't put out a good phone since the Hero and that phone was a good mid range phone, the moment is junk and the pre was nothing but promises that weren't kept. The pre had tons of hardware and software problems for months after it's release it was never "top of the pack" and the reason some thought sprint had such a good line up 7 months ago is because it was so crappy before that, it was a nice change to see a decent phone like the hero come but again other networks had just as good or better phones out around that time as well.

Sprint hasn't released a decent phone since October and here we are going into May, at least they have announced the updated blackberry so I guess that could be called decent for May 23 or something like that and then the Evo in the summer (june, july, aug, sept) and hopefully it's the early june time frame people keep suggesting but I have yet to see sprint give a time frame and come out earlier than projected and summer doesn't start until the end of June.

I think the lack of quality phones has been one of sprints biggest problems, almost all of their phones are "me too" phones, phones you can get cheaper on other carriers, the only exclusives sprint seems to have are either over priced (the original touch pro) or garbage like the instinct line and the moment which feels like a toy, everything else is also on other networks (Eris is the hero with a different case) and can usually be had for cheaper.

It's great that sprint is bringing out the Evo and the new blackberry but they definetly need more, they need a version of the incredible not the N1, the N1 has too many issues and is kind of a damaged property in a lot of people eyes, the incredible has better features and a better screen, with the Evo being so large some may want a smaller phone but not as small as the hero or upcoming legend and a variant of the incredible could give them that. I known for myself I was wanting a screen of 3.5-3.7 inches initially and then the Evo was announced and I love that the screen is large but after holding an HD2 at the t-mobile store I am kind of concerned about keeping the Evo in my pocket.

Still no news from Best Buy. EVO still isn't in our system. The most recent presell SKU is the one for the Hero.

I did get to handle an Incredible today. It's thinner than I expected. Couldn't play with it because anytime you tried to leave the home screen, it wanted to be activated. Very nice though. Can't wait for the EVO.

agreed. i was surprised how thin it was. i could tolerate a slightly thicker device if you gave me more battery. there was plenty of margin IMO.

another thing that surprised me was how NOT obnoxious the Incredible's "Racecar" back was. it wasn't obnoxious at all in person vs. in the pics.

Eieio, can you explain how an Evo release with iPhone " toe to toe" is possibly realistic. I realize you are an engineer and you posts are invaluable here, but cmon sir we are not in Disney.

There are reports that new iPhone is ready for mid June release with new 4.0 software. I can't remember if it was self praise or not but they were absolutely correct in claiming apple would swallow the evo worm.

Just my 2

If you click on the link I provided it should take you directly to the photo of the EVO with its exposed backside. (no jokes please).
If you click on the photo it zooms in and you can clearly see in the depressed black section of the back the number PC36100.

Now, I truly believe the phone has passed the FCC, but probably has a note saying not to release the documents until a certain date. Or it could have gone through using another Grantee Code other than the one for HTC (NM8).

TS out

When I clicked on the link, it went straight to this pic:

I tried to click on the pic thumbnails below this one, but the website just kept showing this pic, no matter which one I clicked on.

hmmm okay, scroll down that page and you should see a few images with the red back exposed. The first on click on it and then click on it again to zoom in.

yup. did that too. That's what I'm saying, I see the thumbnails of the pics on that page, but for whatever reason no matter which pic I click on, the same pic shows on the page.

I'm gonna paste into different browser to see if it makes a difference.

Sorry river. I could not remember your earlier post.

You are absolutely correct. I really believe apple will announce iPhone availability in second week of June as a response to Evo. And it will be devastating to sprint.

You have to understand public sentiment. It's not just the phone or the specs; It's the publics unfamiliarity with the Carrier....Sprint. There are 2 hurdles here, and I believe apple has moved it up 3 weeks so as to extinguish any media sprint might gain.

Verizon has another piece of the pie with the incredible. A trusted network.

So sprint is facing a long may...........

why order a moment now??????????
Dude, I know. She has the lotus and wants a physical keyboard and does not want to get used to a touchscreen keyboard. She does not like the BB's so the moment is the only choice. This is a small step in the right direction for her.

That post is 95% fact with my little personal twist put on some points. The major info reguarding parteners is fact. That is true.

Name one place happier than disney??? If my team wins regianls we are soo going there hahaha yupp thats right a college tennis team heading to Disney =]

yeah my Mom did wayyy back. what ur issue with that?
wtg jackson and again ty for the awesome info. :) I am ready for my evo..I am even paid up on my phone bill so I will have money for my evo when it drops wohoo.:D

we went over this a while ago but the device will hsip with a modded version of 2.1 and get an OTA update for 2.2 shortly after

ah, see? it MUST be ready to go now! i say just sell 'em in May! we can get the update when it's ready....

or just give us a definite releasedate. i think at least having a definite release date would satisfy many.

What's so bad about Disney World? I'm going AGAIN in June and I can't wait! I'm also hoping to have my EVO in hand when I get there!

Amusingly, depending on when the Evo drops, I may be down at WDW myself, and thus unable to get it on launch day! I'll be there from June 5-12. Hope it drops earlier... would love to have it for the trip!

With all of this apple stuff, and this is pure specualtion so please take it with a grain of salt, it would be very mart of Sprint to move up the release date. Everything is tentative to this point. The phone is finished and they are being produced at crazy fats speeds, this is a fact. They just have to be shipped to store locations, this too is a fact. So if Sprint really wanted to they could bump up the release dat by a week or two. Nothing is really holding them back (opinion)

My wife is the same way, she has a dumb phone now, but she wants a physical keyboard. She doesn't like my Iphone (neither do I), she says the virtual keyboard is wierd. I am going to get her a moment when I get my EVO.

Hey, what happened to that one poster that showed the radio shack inventory screen. Haven't seen that person post in a while.
