I really disagree with this old argument. You can't forget that these things are staggered all through the year and it's not really fair to judge a company by its offerings when we are weeks away from a refresh.
Last summer, the Pre was the only phone with the same CPU and similar specs to the iPhone. Then the Hero came out on Sprint first. Then Sprint got the Moment which was the fastest Android phone. Then Verizon got Droid. Then T-Mo got the Nexus One. Then last week Verizon got the Incredible. Then in June we will get the Evo. I'm not event counting the other phones like HD2, Pixi, Touch Pro 2, etc. that came out staggered on other carriers as well as Sprint.
My point is that over the course of the year there are tons of releases on pretty much all the carriers. Being on top with the fastest this or the newest that one month doesn't mean that you will still be on top in 2-3 months. Likewise, just because a carrier has gone a quarter or a half without a groundbreaking release doesn't mean they have been severely lacking in good handsets. Hero is a good phone. Moment is a good phone. Pre is a good phone. No they are not the top of the pack anymore but to say that Sprint has been severely lacking misses that fact that 6 months ago they had some of the best phones on the market. Just because you didn't choose them doesn't mean others also did not.
I've been on Sprint for years and never lacked for a decent smart phone ever since I got my first Treo.
I have to disagree, sprint hasn't put out a good phone since the Hero and that phone was a good mid range phone, the moment is junk and the pre was nothing but promises that weren't kept. The pre had tons of hardware and software problems for months after it's release it was never "top of the pack" and the reason some thought sprint had such a good line up 7 months ago is because it was so crappy before that, it was a nice change to see a decent phone like the hero come but again other networks had just as good or better phones out around that time as well.
Sprint hasn't released a decent phone since October and here we are going into May, at least they have announced the updated blackberry so I guess that could be called decent for May 23 or something like that and then the Evo in the summer (june, july, aug, sept) and hopefully it's the early june time frame people keep suggesting but I have yet to see sprint give a time frame and come out earlier than projected and summer doesn't start until the end of June.
I think the lack of quality phones has been one of sprints biggest problems, almost all of their phones are "me too" phones, phones you can get cheaper on other carriers, the only exclusives sprint seems to have are either over priced (the original touch pro) or garbage like the instinct line and the moment which feels like a toy, everything else is also on other networks (Eris is the hero with a different case) and can usually be had for cheaper.
It's great that sprint is bringing out the Evo and the new blackberry but they definetly need more, they need a version of the incredible not the N1, the N1 has too many issues and is kind of a damaged property in a lot of people eyes, the incredible has better features and a better screen, with the Evo being so large some may want a smaller phone but not as small as the hero or upcoming legend and a variant of the incredible could give them that. I known for myself I was wanting a screen of 3.5-3.7 inches initially and then the Evo was announced and I love that the screen is large but after holding an HD2 at the t-mobile store I am kind of concerned about keeping the Evo in my pocket.
. It won't be long now! I had a day dream I was unlocking my EVO today. It's happening to me now!
I am ready for my evo..I am even paid up on my phone bill so I will have money for my evo when it drops wohoo.
